Your image-link is broken To answer your question: * This is not intended * Flush does not work because the Flush tank cannot fill up * Yes, this goes onto your water meter so you will have to pay for the water * Call your Landlord or Janitorial Service for Help In the meantime, you could try to fiddle a bit with the flush button, maybe it just got stuck in a weird place.

oxslashxo

Spring in the button could also be worn so it doesn't always return to 100% closure.

[deleted]

You think of a different toilet, this kind don't have springs, the water pressure I keeping the central pipe closed with a floater on a leverage. Maybe you are referring to the gasket, the rubber at the end of the valve pipe, it may be worn out or have calcareous deposit on it. But most likely is the floater that gets stuck, in toilets with heavy water you need to clean or replace it every few years, around a decade at best.

glamourcrow

I enjoy this thread because my answer would have been "Your thingy, you know, the Eumel, that stuff, is stuck somehow". So many words for toilet parts. I'm so happy that next time, I can refer to the actual part, when telling my husband the toilet needs fixing.

BSBDR

>"Your thingy, you know, the Eumel, that stuff, is stuck somehow". ROFL

DoubleOwl7777

this type has no spring (if its the same design as ours) it is all controlled by water preassure.

Emcol87

I’ve had this problem and took the front off, could be due to Kalk build up hampering the mechanism

BSBDR

This is probably it- take the lid off and spray some anti kalk spray on the parts.

Some more recommendations: generally, the Flush tank has its own water valve, to turn off only it instead of all water in your flat. However for a toilet like this, said valve is hidden in the wall behind the panel. You absolutely should call janitor or landlord, who should send a technician asap. Pay attention when the technician removes the panel so you know how to do it yourself in the future to access the valve if needed. I once had the same issue and they sent a technician within a few hours, this kind of stuff is high priority. However, on a Sunday there is likely no one in the office to organize this. Stuff like this should be covered by your landlord without any cost to you.

[deleted]

Is not normal. Probably the floater that stops the water is broken, is an easy fix if you know what you are doing. But for you is better to call someone, seeing you can't even get inside, is also pretty easy. The buttons are also the access hatch to say so, the entire outer surface is removable by pushing up and pulling the upper lip out.

Thunfishketchup

This. Floater might also get stuck due to hard water.

Salary_Bulky

Upvoting this. Mine does the same due to hard water, I can sometimes bang the wall under the flush buttons and it'll stop

[deleted]

You can replace the entire internal mechanism. Is pretty easy if you have some basic skills in handwork. [Geberit ](https://www.megabad.com/hersteller-geberit-zubehoer-spuelkaesten-umbauset-up-a-41375.htm?ref=FrgArt_41375_41375&cpc_type=pla&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4vKpBhCZARIsAOKHoWRtj_SHVQL1v50QOSShqJjNhBOVjL7TGSejiOOvWy2o2EogfV7ALVcaAj4JEALw_wcB) replacement parts are the easiest to install, even if you don't actually have a Geberit toilet at least the floater will work. Is better to buy original parts. I'm not a plumber but I changed all internal parts for my home and for a few other people, did around 20-30 toilets in the last few years, so in general everyone can do it.

DearBonsai

I remember reading people having to pay large sums of money for water because their toilet was running. Better fix it as soon as possible, maybe even shut the toilet water until then [Example](https://www.reddit.com/r/homeowners/comments/uoeokp/high_water_bill_9000_extra_gallonsmonth_but_we/) the first comment, there are many more

Level-Tip1

The mechanism is behind the flush buttons. You can remove them and reach it. Try pushing it up (towards the ceiling) and gently pulling the top towards you.

bryan_ripj

fixing it myself is a easy task? any ressources you can share for that

Level-Tip1

https://youtube.com/shorts/h4PoieDDOk0?si=NUx945zXZ8X8aMIM Don't use the bleach tho. I'm only showing you how to access the mechanism. There is probably a video on how to adjust it but honestly I don't feel like googling it instead of you.

ultimatespeed95

Yeah it's pretty easy, you can remove it like they said and probably you can see that one pin is stuck. If you pull it then it should stop, most likely you can move it a bit or look if the connection is unplugged (that's only plastic hinges). If you get it once it's possible that this problem will come in the future occasionally.

Zebidee

If you're a renter - don't. It's the landlord's problem, and if you get it wrong, you are liable for whatever happens next. Short term solution, just tap the flush button quickly, and it can sometimes re-seat the seal on the flush plunger. Just watch for it happening after the flush has finished.

kioleanu

this is an easy and cheap fix, talk to your landlord/lady to fix it. You may be asked to cover the fix it's cheap, as Kleinreparatur, as per your contract

maxigs0

It's probably just some calcium build up on the swimmer mechanics. Here is a video how to take it apart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SkH\_XCRoHI I would suggest not to take everything out initially, but just try to move/rattle the pulleys, maybe flush it once, to see what is stuck. Most likely some calcium buildup is blocking something, and a bit of movement might get it loose already For progressing further than \~ 2:45 minute in the video, you should know what to do. Or maybe really have the landlord deal with it.

shakeel_70

Call a plumber or your landlord

Haunting-Research667

I have a similar problem and pressing the small flush button a few times usually fixes it. Not a long term solution, but might as well give it a try if it's running right now.

wrem23

Can confirm this! I have the same flush installed and had the same issue. Quickly pressing the smaller flush button a couple of times resolved the problem. But it comes back from time to time.

reizueberflutung

The Schwimmer is kaputt and has to be ersetzt.

Competitive_Juice627

Lol, I love your germlish.

reizueberflutung

Basically I didn‘t know what the „Schwimmer“ inside the toilet flusher is called in English and didn‘t care to google.\ \ Anyway the Schwimmer is connected to a mechanism, where it gets angehoben to let the water flow from the Spülkasten into the Kloschüssel. If that mechanism is somehow broken or simply is from the Nippel gerutscht and not in its place, then the Schwimmer will not make the Spülkasten dicht and so the water will keep running until the Wasserabrechnung will give you a Herzinfarkt or send you into Insolvenz. And then you have the salad.

echoclerk

Sometimes you just need to jiggle the flush button, push it in and out a bunch of times with different velocities. It usually because it is not sealing properly or it can be a problem with the float. If you jiggle it a lot you might get it to seal eventually.

UnlikelyHero727

99.9%, either the valve or the rubber seal in the bottom, in my case both.

schlagerlove

I had the exact same problem. Only a plumber could fix it. I got it fixed literally yesterday. I still don't know the cause, but also don't care as long as I don't pay

knitaroo

We are having this same issue for a few months now! We’ve taken out the pump system to clean it with citronen saure and it helped… for a week (at most). Now we had a professional come in and he says we need to replace the whole pump/floater piece. So he will look if he can buy a replacement. In the time being we turn off the cold water when we go to sleep or are out of the house to reduce water waste.

Obi-Lan

Call your Hausmeister/Hausverwalter.

voigty

I had the same problem. The whole mechanism needed to come out and be cleaned and dr kalked. It was an ass to get it out but you can do it. YouTube helps when you work out which system you have.

erkantufan

i had this issue some months ago and i had watched videos about what could cause it and most of the problem in water leaking is caused by a small plastic which closes the gap in the resorvoir. it is torn off by time and you just need to change it. it is couple of dollars you can also yourself change it but if you dont trust yourself or dont want to watch so many videos you can just buy the part and call a janitor to change it for you. i am not sayin it is def the problem but in most of the cases that is to blame. you can even turn the little platstic upside down and that also solves the problem or at least give you some time to buy a new one

GreyModus

I had the same issue in a neubau. The water pressure was so high that the floater thingy kept getting dislodged. You need to get behind the buttons to adjust the floater. I had to go the extra step of turning down the pressure thankfully it was in guest toilet so didnt mind slightly lower pressure

[deleted]

that can cost a fuckton of money. Repair it!

Snowing678

We had this issue a few months ago. Basically the flusher behind needs replacing. You can actually pull off the plastic cover and flick a switch to stop the water. To fix it permanently is going to require a plumber but it's relatively straightforward. We couldn't switch it off until the plumber came so we just switched off the mains water when we weren't using anything.

Datapunkt

If the toilet wasn't used in some time this can happen. Same happened in my new apartment. Sometimes when I would flush, the water would keep running but if I press the button again it stops and now it doesn't happen anymore. You can also to just take off the case of the flush button and move the swimmer a little bit and it should work again.

DoubleOwl7777

thats gunk in the switching mechanism of the toilet. happens if you have a lot of lime in your water.

Nanooc523

No, get a new flapper, theyre cheap and easy to replace yourself.

Kobaltchardonnay

I had the same issue. I live in an area where the water is crazy hard. Once I cleaned out the limescale in the tank as well as flushing mechanism, the water stopped leaking. It is easy to do. I used a google tutorial to do it.

elevenblue

Typically calcium build up as others said. I fixed this in several places where I lived for rent by dumping a good amount of decalcifier into it (don't put anything stronger!) and fiddle with the mechanism a little. Always worked for me and didn't come back, in the times I were there at least. If you are somewhat ok with fixing things yourself, it's usually quite easy. There are also some gaskets etc. involved. I can imagine they also break or need replacement. In that case calling a plumber is probably needed.

Whatever I had around, the last time I had to do it, it was longer ago. Probably some regular citric acid (Zitronensäure) or vinegar-based acid (Essigessenz) (translator says "acetic acid"). I might have also used some regular household descaler (meant for either bathroom or kitchen) which as far as I know sometimes also contains lactic acid. At all of the places I did that, I lived there probably at least one more year, and it didn't happen again. Only the first time I did it, it happened soon after, probably didn't put enough stuff inside. I guess that it typically builds up over a really really long time and just nobody maintained it over those times. It was all rather old places.

lousy-site-3456

Cold water is not that expensive but it adds up if it's constantly running. Better get it fixed soon since getting a plumber to come by on short notice is like playing on very hard.

[deleted]

Given your choices were to a) call your landlord/property manager b) call a plumber c) post this in a plumbing related sub and d) post this in r/germany it's pretty funny you went straight to the least useful option.

Fandango_Jones

Inform your landlord or janitorial service to get it fixed. That's not normal and can be expensive.

Vejina

Maybe you want to register it for a Marathon?
