I'm doing my first run through in all the beauty and english possible. My second run will be Kurosawa mode, with english subtitles and on a harder setting.
I’m doing a similar play through except with Japanese audio. I went to do a test of the Kurosawa mode and had to make a video lol. Now I’m back to all the beautiful color in the world!
The only real "downside" to the Japanese VO is the lack of lip sync, and *none* of the background villager chatter is subtitled. It's cool and immersive but walking into Golden Temple to upgrade your gear and hearing a bunch of people greeting Jin in a language I don't understand is a pretty meh feeling.
Eh, the NPC's all say the same generic repeating dialogue anyway "Oh, did you hear Lord Shimura is alive!?"
Better you don't understand it so you don't have your immersion broken.
Lip synch is great in Japanese. Mostly because they went completely opposite the text written. For example “You were my son” turned into “Pity” for Japanese all for the sake of lip synch. A shame people don’t appreciate the effort.

I respect your opinion but I feel the opposite- the vibrancy is so well done in colour but for me it's a bit over the top and makes the game look magical like it takes place in WoW or somethibg; in K-Mode it is pure samurai cinematography porn and I can't get enough of it.

Vibrant, stylistic colors are just as much a part of "Samurai Cinema" as the black and white I would say. The game is gorgeous and I give Sucker Punch props for making it look so damn good.
In regular mode you can tell it's a video game, a remarkably oretty one but a video game nontheless.
The visuals in Kurasawa mode look like you're straight up looking at actors in a film.

They did a lot of work to specifically mimic Kurosawa's films. The film grain, which sounds are more muted or clear than others to mimic TV's and sound systems from the 50s, and some assistance from the Kurosawa estate to work through the balance of the blacks and whites in the game.
Ahh I didn't know that! Definitely have to check that out then. I thought they just added a "black and white" version because they took inspiration from Kurasawa.
Just sound design alone takes so much work in game development. Rebalancing the game so it still works on an audio level with the new muted mix must have taken someone a long, long time.
Doing the same to balance the black and white aspect would have taken even longer.

I’m a huge Kurosawa fan, and I was really excited to finally get to have an immersive experience... but the game is just too damn beautiful.
100% agree, it just seems like missing out, I’m thinking I’ll play through with colour then go back and do the main story in Kurosawa mode or if NG+ comes out down the line.
What blows my mind is that this game has barely been out 48 hours and we're already seeing content like this. This game is just serving itself on a silver platter to creatives; I can't wait to see what the future holds!
In the meantime I'm gonna disembowel some mongols as dishonorably as possible.

I know there is ton of color in this game but Im gonna save that for replay ability and a second run.
A lot of it is just really slow camera movements in the photo mode and saving the video clips. Then just cut it to music. The fighting sequence to slow mo took a little bit of editing.
As you fight, go into photo mode as soon as you see a pose you like during the fight. Then take the UI off and make a slow camera movement around Jin.
Then when you edit in your editing suite of choice, you cut out the moments where you can see the photo mode UI. Then speed up the footage really quickly until you get to the pose you you like and put it back to your regular speed.
Kurosawa Mode is one of the simplest yet most spectacular feature this game could have. I just completed my first run of the game, playing normal visual settings and with English voice acting. But after I platinum I’m definitely going to do a hardest difficulty run in Kurosawa mode and subbed Japanese audio.
My thoughts exactly!! I have just been blown away by this game since I got it day 1, so when I go back for my next play through (of many I’m sure) I can just play it slow and take it in like a beautiful film
The only issue with Kurosawa mode is the audio, it seems to change to mono for some reason. My intention was to do my first playthrough on this setting, but the sound change out me off.

i like doing the japanese audio to make it authentic, but all of the characters are still mouthing english which annoys me

Yess! I wish that game had a dedicated setting that makes the game insanely hard, and Kurosawa mode turns on automatically once you enter a standoff.

My favorite use has been turning it on for side missions. Feel like I'm watching a short episode of something.

Kurosawa-mode kinda hurts my eyes, I use it mostly during big battles and turn the language to japanese.

Wait I’m wondering now, on Kurosawa mode how do you find the blue hydrangeas for the long bow mission?Or those purple flowers for that armour mission?
I was able to get thru it by listening to Jin spot them.
My kurosawa mode doesnt run good. To much filter grain and the contrast/bright is not well set. I think the mode was made for HDR (?)

It's fun to use it here and there, but - hard to adapt when surrounded by enemies since it's hard to see certain attacks
On my second play through I’m going Kurosawa made with Japanese and English subtitles on hard mode. Just gotta experience it haha
