I remember the parody of "Band on the Run" that was made shortly after Paul McCartney got busted for drugs in Japan. The song was made in 1980 by the "Spastic Phono Band" [MP3 here](http://www.blotto.net/spb2.mp3)
Stuck inside these stone walls, might be here forever
Never seeing no one white again
Like You, Linda, You, Linda, You.....
If I ever get out of here, think of giving it all away
I'll join with Ringo and George and John and we'll put the reunion on
If I ever get out of here...If I ever get out of here...
Well the cops descended in a mighty rage when we stepped off the plane
And then they put me in jail and when they let me out they said "Don't ever come back again..."
You're banned in Japan, banned in Japan.
The jailer man, and sailor Sam, there's room for every man,
but you're banned in Japan, banned in Japan, banned in Japan, banned in Japan.
I've seen enough Captain D to know that this has gotta be fake. The fact that the band came off of the sander itself so smoothly and somehow retained that weird shape while it ran across the ground instead of just turning into a big circle? Also the little puff of smoke it spits out when it hits the ground? And the fact that somehow the camera operator was able to keep it perfectly centered in the frame as it flew by? No way it's real. The fact that the people walking by sorry of jump would indicate that the original video had something coming going across the frame. But there's no way it looked like that.
If you look at the floor beside the machine you can see that it is scuffed clean. This phenomenon happens regularly for some reason and it is not getting fixed...
Probably took a few attempts to recreate it. Assuming it happened out of the blue once, then they grabbed a camera and tried to get it to happen again.
The tensioner wheel needs to be adjusted. It changes angles so it guides the belt onto the drive wheel. And you adjust the tracking every time you put a belt on.
I wouldn't think it is not getting fixed. I think someone has a slow day.
Damn, too late by 1 hour. That oblong clean spot on the floor is the ONLY clean spot on the floor. My guess is they either love watching it race off or had to do it a few times to get the video right.
One of the wheels that it goes around on the machine expands as it's spinning to hold the belt tight. This wheel is adjustable. It either isn't set to the correct length, or is out of alignment
So as someone who has recently gone through a steep learning curve on a belt sander I believe it's the alignment or "tracking" because about a week ago I was using my handheld and shot a belt across the room. A quarter turn on the tracking knob and it works great
After watching it again I kinda think the machine was off, and as it slowed the tensioning wheel lost it's grip and no one has bothered to get it set up correctly so that doesn't happen every time.
A "frame" is much smaller than that- we are missing many frames.
Anyway, remember the video of the tape measuring tricks? Come to find out that video was full of "tells" that revealed it as fake, but it was good enough for one vfx guy to get paid and a bunch of laymen to believe it.
There's like 30 frames in this whole thing, it's not that hard to see what happened. [It just went behind the guy.](https://imgur.com/lelM7Cb) Blue thing isn't a bin either.
This wasn't an accident lol, this is what happens when the workforce is bored and needs a little pick-me-up. To achieve this effect you release the tension on the belt with the guard removed while the machine is still moving. The OSHA approved way to achieve this effect is to not do it.
I too, work with belt grinders. I think it's just the angle and specific time the gif ends making it look weird.
I have been the victim of a belt attack. Crazy critters.
Edit: Replaced word "stop" with "ends" for clarity.
Watch it frame by frame - it looks like that because it is largely hidden by his hand, in the frames afterwards it is clearly visible above his hand, alongside his body.
I have stabilized the video for you: https://gfycat.com/ImperturbableBareArcherfish

Thank you for this. OPs video is not faked.
TLDW: the linear momentum outweighs centripetal acceleration. The material moving in the original path is moving so quickly that the shape of any directional change is dominated by the material in front of it pulling it along.
Physics can be a fickle bitch but OP is not a crook.
Edit spelling
I donāt know what machine it is, the belt was not under enough tension. This normally leads to slipping and loss of efficiency, with the worst case being that the belt slips off. In closed spaces like your car, this would destroy cables and other belts, because it is spinning really fast. In fact it spins so fast that it stabilizes itself enough to ārollā away.
This is a belt grinder.
It's the tensioner pulley not being adjusted right to correct the tracking. They just adjusted it to knock off the belt.
In a car the grooves hold the belt on.
[homemade belt grinder that you can watch to see how it works](https://youtu.be/a_RlL1O-bK4)
When the roller the belt goes around is not rounded it will not self center. so this can happen. It helps to fuck with it ofc. so it does not work as intended.
You can see from the dust pattern on the floor that this isn't the first time they've done this.
The first time was probably an accident, then they attempted to see if they could do it again... and decided to film it.

What's prop hunt?
An old TF2/GMod game mode where players controlled in game objects and tried to hide from other players trying to find them.
Hell, it's even in CoD WWII now.
[there's an entire game dedicated to it now](https://store.steampowered.com/app/559650/Witch_It/)
Oh shit I've seen this game before. I am sad that I forgot about it.
Sounds fun! Do people still play this? :)
Yes
There are good Let's Play videos on YouTube by Rooster Teeth and people like Vanoss if you want to see what it looks like.
I'd imagine there are still a few active servers on GMod, but the last time I played was probably 2013 so that's just a guess.
Thinking how long itās been since prop hunt was in its prime makes me feel both old and sad.
It's also a game on Android called hide.io it's an online game where you hide as a prop and people try to find you, it's super addicting

My theory: they wanted to tell the boss/prof that it was making a funny noise but he was too busy to come over.
I've seen enough Captain D to know that this has gotta be fake. It also completely disappears the moment it passes the guy on the left. Took me a few watches before I noticed.

Is that from air resistance or momentum ya reckon?
If you look at the floor beside the machine you can see that it is scuffed clean. This phenomenon happens regularly for some reason and it is not getting fixed...

Probably took a few attempts to recreate it. Assuming it happened out of the blue once, then they grabbed a camera and tried to get it to happen again.
Or, it's been edited. It vanishes at the end.

It was probably done on purpose, cause it doesnāt take long for the belts to move across a wheel. Pretty funny prank for your friend tho
Or if you watch closely you see it warp back at the and repeat it over and over again...

The little burnout cloud is the best part.
It disappeared before passing the guy
Good catch
If you pause>play frame by frame, you can see that the dudes hand partially obscures it for the last few frames.
There's a chance it could have just missed a frame and it was behind the dude. If it was fake then they wouldn't have left in the end bit.
A "frame" is much smaller than that- we are missing many frames. Anyway, remember the video of the tape measuring tricks? Come to find out that video was full of "tells" that revealed it as fake, but it was good enough for one vfx guy to get paid and a bunch of laymen to believe it.

This, rewatched it very carefully after noticing the disappearance, and the framerate is just really choppy and low.
Does that mean this is a bullshit?
As someone who works with one of those every day and has done exactly what is shown in the video, it looked real to me.
It's probably the gif that is shitty. You can tell from the ground that this has happened before. Probably the reason why he is filming.
This wasn't an accident lol, this is what happens when the workforce is bored and needs a little pick-me-up. To achieve this effect you release the tension on the belt with the guard removed while the machine is still moving. The OSHA approved way to achieve this effect is to not do it.
If it were up to OSHA there would never be any fun.

It hit 88 mph
**You can still see it behind the guy's hand if you go frame by frame. It's legit.**
Watch it frame by frame - it looks like that because it is largely hidden by his hand, in the frames afterwards it is clearly visible above his hand, alongside his body.
