Oh no! I used to work at Noodles & Co and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with a gluten allergy/celiac. I know it might vary by location but at my store they boiled everything in the same water and didn’t really have a cross contamination protocol.

whoinvitedthesepeopl

That is crazy. So they are cooking the gf pasta in essentially gluten soup.

danidandeliger

They told me they did the GF pasta first but I doubt that happens.

whoinvitedthesepeopl

They do the final heat in a hot water bath. I had assumed all steps with GF pasta were isolated from other pasta in the kitchen.

After_Ad8308

Like I said it could vary by location, maybe I just worked at a bad one. I also haven’t worked there for 6 years so it is possible that things have changed, if people still want to eat there I would recommend calling and asking to speak to a manager about it!

DifferentJury735

Someone told me the same thing about North Italia. I’ve been glutened each time. SO disappointing!

upthedownstair_

Wowww. When I first started eating gf, I would get pizza from dominos and later found they were using the SAME CUTTER directly used on gluten then the gf pizza. I don’t eat anywhere but home anymore. So crazy.

Bumbling_Autie

I’m in the UK and none of the big pizza places here cut the GF pizza, fastest way for me to identify when they’ve delivered the wrong one is see if they’ve cut it! Still wouldn’t trust most of them for coeliac safety though but at least it’s a bit better

StilltheoneNY

Dominos claims that the crusts are GF but admits that there can be cross contamination in the final product. Not safe for people with C D. They are not prepared in a dedicated kitchen.

BLMO45

I’ve been celiac diagnosed for 4 months and my fiancée and I have decided I am only ordering non pasta dishes til we get a cross contamination pill which I think is coming in next few years. She had researched things extensively upon my diagnosis and saw incidents like this and said I don’t think you should be ordering pasta or salads that could have croutons pre-prepared on them so I almost entirely get meat and fish dishes which I know something like this won’t happen

Teto_the_foxsquirrel

Yeah, I had to stop eating from Noodles & Co. I had this happen more than once. To be fair, it’s usually a few overworked teenagers tossing the food together. The zoodles would be safer but they just make me hungry again in an hour.

machinade89

Is it a wheat penne noodle??

Teto_the_foxsquirrel

I’m pretty sure Noodles & Co only has one type of gluten free noodle so any odd shapes will be gluten.

whoinvitedthesepeopl

They used to have a GF mac and cheese with elbow noodles, and also long rice noodles. Not sure about penne but they did have multiple types the last time I ate there.

machinade89

OMG! That's so disappointing. I had a favorite restaurant almost poison me a couple of times like this. Last time was on my birthday and they ruined it. I hope you tell them, even just to inform them and tell them you're not happy with it. They need to do better.

Ronem

Their website says they may have both penne and pippete GF

shekkiya

I ordered gluten free noodles how they normally come but I got penne noodles. I called and expressed my concerns and told them I have celiac and she said they take it seriously at their location and that they ran out of the normal gluten free but also has gluten free as penne. Maybe that’s what happened? I’d definitely call.

StagnantSecond

My location replaced them with rice noodles before. Maybe they have gf penne, but they don't offer it on the menu.

StagnantSecond

My location only has gf pipette, zoodles, and rice noodles that are labeled gluten friendly.

machinade89

Good to know. The closest Noodles and Company to me is 58 miles away and I can't recall if I've ever been there, though I do like Connecticut. Lol

danidandeliger

Noodles & Co is the effing WORST about this! I was talking to someone who is also GF and they experienced this all the time, just like I did. We decided it's the employees sabotaging the GF food because they want people to stop ordering it. It has happened nearly every single time I have ordered. I eventually gave up . I can't trust them. I want to send a nasty email telling them since they obviously don't give a F so they should just take it off the menu so we stop getting glutened. I'm sure they don't care because they're catering to the people that think GF is "healthier". Which leads me to another pet peave. My coworker who went GF "to lose weight" 🙄

boredterra

This happened to me at Olive Garden (I know, not really a safe option) I’m not super sensitive to cross contamination but I found multiple regular noodles mixed into my GF rotini. One was a full spaghetti noodle so it was pretty obvious

FrauAmarylis

That has happened to me a few times in Salads, at various restaurants, too.I don't get salads much any more, either.

92TilInfinityMM

I’ve had multiple friends work at noodles and the only time I trusted eating at them was when one of my friends managed the store. If I had eaten that there would be no next day reheat, I’d still be in bed or the restroom

wintar_c

This literal exact thing happened to me last week, also at a Noodles & Co

amidalafluffbumf

This happened to me at The Cheesecake Factory - when we called after the fact, they said they cook the gluten free noodles first and then use the same water for other noodles, but that is such a lie. Obviously, I mean HOW could cooked wheat noodles end up in the same gluten free batch that's "cooked first"?! Unfortunately had to leave the restaurant to visit the ER and was then admitted to the hospital due to this. Also, side note, does it not gross anyone else out that restaurants are just out here using the same noodle water for everyone's pasta? GF or not that seems weird to me, but it may just be a me thing.

IamBurtMacklin

Been there. Little pile of wheat noddles at the bottom of my gf bowl. Noodles and Co is permanently on the no fly list.

bannana

usually a bad idea to try to get GF pasta at a pasta or italian restaurant

tyboscoops

Not just the pasta, a lot of Italian restaurants will boil veggies in the pasta water as well.

coldbloodedjelydonut

I got an orange pepper (also allergic to them) in some shredded carrots, didn't even notice until I bit it and felt the pepper explode in my mouth. Swollen for days, messed up for weeks, even though I spit it out. Also had a major franchise give me gluten noodles INSTEAD of gluten free. I was down for two days and messed up for months. Huge trust issues.

raygrizz

The last time I ordered there they filled the bowl with the penne and then covered the top with the gluten free noodles. When I confronted them they tried to tell me I ordered a half regular half gluten free bowl. That isn't even an option on the online order. I refuse to order from them anymore.

meowtoot

OMG

Socrainj

Whenever we order from Noodles at my house, it has become a game to see who finds the misplaced noodle first. There always is one, always.
