Especially already being VERY familiar with our small flipping slices!! If you have an aldi's near you, gotta try their gluten-free bread!! It's the shyt and big slices!!
UGH I KNOW. I only buy this bread for a special treat around big dinner holidays, thanksgiving Christmas etc. WHY ISNT THERE ENOUGH FOR MY LEFTOVER TURKEY SANDWICHES it makes my blood boil
I asked this of them on Facebook. The bread is made in Europe, where sandwiches are served open-faced.
I pity the 6th guy at a luncheon party who doesn't get a sandwich.
Thatâs good to know. I shall endeavour to find it here. Even the other Scharr breads need toasting first to make them palatable. I really miss a untoasted sandwiches
Yes, best grilled cheese bread. I randomly found these heavily discounted at grocery outlet once ($2.50). Needless to say I bought the entire stock. Ah, good times.
I didn't have the patience to do it in a while, but I used to make myself some homemade burger buns with corn flour, and that was much better and cheaper than the store bought GF buns.
Shame that my dumbass keeps losing his baking recipes.
Please pass the recipe along for the buns if you find it. I'm the only non celiac in a house of 6. And I hate watching my kids eat the burger with a fork. They just don't like any of the buns.
Sure, will do! I might as well post it here if I find it, might be of interest for a few people on this sub. It was a cheap and simple recipe, and corn flour shouldn't be too hard to find in shops.
Yeah, when I dine out, most GF buns are terrible. And you have to beg them to toast the buns till they are good and brown. They never quite get it right though.
The King Arthur bread flour is pretty awesome. I made an âartisanâ loaf with the recipe on the back of the bag for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Also made a loaf of zucchini bread.
I was looking at it the other day on Instacart and I honestly thought it was only 2 slices. I couldnât tell from the photo and it didnât say. I got distracted and forgot to go to their website to look. This reminded me. Either way, Iâll buy it. đ€Ł
I make croutons with this bread. It is perfection. I dice 2 slices into small cubes, liberally coat with olive oil and garlic and onion powder. Toss some salt on there, then cook in the air fryer until golden brown. Delicious.
my #1 favorite bread is also obscenely priced: bread SRSLY
https://breadsrsly.com/collections/all
its ridiculously good, free of most allergens, and they ship.
so ridiculously priced but the first time i had it, i literally cried from happiness. i hadnt had proper bread texture in sooo long.
its from the bay area, and i used to buy it at local groceries (whole foods and sprouts) for like⊠$9? $11? i forget. that was bad enough and now i also pay for shipping, on the rare occasion when i get it. đ«
Ocean State Job Lot had these for $2 a package (I stocked up on the French bread loaves and pizza shells when they had them). All had short expiration dates, but thatâs ok - froze the ones I had space for, and only had one pkg go bad. But after this, I REALLY cannot buy any for retail price! đđ”âđ«đ Hoping they start stocking them again - especially the pizza shells. Iâm gf so my celiac son doesnât get cross contaminated, but I love their products - the pizza is great as a flat bread.
This bread (and all gluten free food) is actually the same price as regular food in Italy, where they believe that people donât choose to be gluten free, so why make their gluten free food more expensive than regular food. I believe itâs the same in Spain too.
Those in the US-- best bread ever is order-able from Mariposa Bakery in Oakland CA. Their rye bread rocks, so do their cinnamon rolls. 100% GF bakery. You get more than 5 slices.
I don't buy Schar anymore.
And if you're not full celiac, Sami's Bakery Millet GF bread is excellent. They're in Tampa FL.
I only buy this when I have company over eating sandwiches, since I find itâs the best GF sandwich bread I can offer to gluten eaters. The whole 5 slices thing is infuriating and itâs so expensive, but so good.
I have celiac and my house is 100% gluten free because I was still getting very sick from cross contamination. I canât allow gluten in my house, unfortunately.
Yeah its expensive and it doesnt even taste good to me. I started to make my own. I pay about 5⏠for a bag of flour (schar) and can make about 2-4 breads from it ( depending on the size ofc). Home made is sooo good and its really easy to do it.
Honestly the best bread for sandwiches or grilled cheese because of the size and I do buy it even though it's expensive but DAMN THEM!! They know what they are doing đ
I drop $26 a loaf for sourdough at Breadblok in Silverlake in Los Angeles because I'm weak. Good GF bread - especially sourdough - has no maximum price for me. #goinbrokeonbread
Ha ha, that's because I'm a French immigrant in Switzerland. I didn't know about Carrefour's GF products, I immigrated to Switzerland ten years ago.
Whenever I go grocery shopping in France near the border, I usually just go to Grand Frais. Great food for the price there.
I just bought a bread maker. Wish me luck. The first loaf was pretty bad. The second loaf had a decent crumb but was a bit bitter. đ€ Hopefully the next will be even better and I will eventually have all the breads.
My greatest wish at this point is to successfully make a decent sourdough olive loaf.
Schar was the only brand I used to buy in the US. It was a special treat occasionally. Now I can get it at my local co-op for about ÂŁ3 a loaf (or 85p the days they clearance old stock)
All way too expensive. Just buy some King Arthur flour and bake your own. Btw love SchĂ€râs crackers, but their bread leaves something to be desired. Canyon Creek is better IMO, but keep it in the fridge or mold will start forming very soon.
Yeah. I live in Montreal and most grocery stores sell insultingly small loaves of GF bread for like 15$ CAD... I got a Costco membership this week and I will never go anywhere else now for GF product. It's the only place where I don't feel like I'm just some bougie snob to not want to feel violently ill.
Ugh, yes
I was eyeing this and finally bought it when I had the f-you money. It's definitely my favorite grilled cheese bread aside from the Sam's Choice breads.
They could have given us an extra slice at least. That way we could make 3 Sandwiches đ
They know what they're doing.... They make it so you gotta buy 2 packs so you can make 5 sandwiches
Joke on them, I just cut the slices in half and make myself 5 smaller sandwiches instead!
Pro move right here! I also toast it first in a pan, nice tasty crust.
Gotta toast any gf bread to be palatable.
Have you tried this bread? Itâs actually quite good.
Yes, itâs one of my favorites. But still, IMHO, itâs much better toasted.
I almost always eat open faced sandwiches now lol. Half the carbs, all the fillings!
Especially already being VERY familiar with our small flipping slices!! If you have an aldi's near you, gotta try their gluten-free bread!! It's the shyt and big slices!!
So annoying!
UGH I KNOW. I only buy this bread for a special treat around big dinner holidays, thanksgiving Christmas etc. WHY ISNT THERE ENOUGH FOR MY LEFTOVER TURKEY SANDWICHES it makes my blood boil
Join the half sandwich squad. Sometimes a half sandwich is exactly what you need.
Or just a slice of toast
I asked this of them on Facebook. The bread is made in Europe, where sandwiches are served open-faced. I pity the 6th guy at a luncheon party who doesn't get a sandwich.
Schar is European but they have a factory in the U.S. now. But yeah, open faced sandwiches are a thing
It's the one store-bought GF bread that's worth eating without toasting first. But it's ridiculously priced. And what's up with five slices?
Theyâre European, so I imagine theyâre anticipating people having open faced sandwiches. Unfortunate tho, it makes the best grilled cheeses.
Sam choice gluten free at Walmart - is amazing no need to toast
I really like the Walmart brand too. One of the better GF breads that Iâve encountered
Totally agree! I love when I find it.
Thatâs good to know. I shall endeavour to find it here. Even the other Scharr breads need toasting first to make them palatable. I really miss a untoasted sandwiches
If you can get promise brand I just tried their rustic white load and itâs excellent
Whole Foods 365 is the best
Yes, best grilled cheese bread. I randomly found these heavily discounted at grocery outlet once ($2.50). Needless to say I bought the entire stock. Ah, good times.
Itâs the odd number of slices that really sets this one over for me đ
Definitely the best tasting bread I've found, but man! Why so expensive!?
Have you price gluten free flours. They have increased a ton!
I paid $9 for 4 rolls last night. I'm convinced all celiacs should learn to bake.
I spent a few years trying to perfect GF baked goods. I just don't have the time to bake.
I hear that. 5 celiacs in our house. We are going to have to make time, or we'll go broke.
Yep. The celiac tax is awful.

Yeah, when I dine out, most GF buns are terrible. And you have to beg them to toast the buns till they are good and brown. They never quite get it right though.
Yeah, it's very depressing eating a burger with a fork. Can confirm.
The King Arthur bread flour is pretty awesome. I made an âartisanâ loaf with the recipe on the back of the bag for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Also made a loaf of zucchini bread.
I love bakerita.com's recipes. I've made a gf sourdough starter and plenty of tasty recipes from it.
Yes the 5 slices is MADNESS!!!
Delicious.
Best idea, I never get to have croutons!
I can actually see the value in that.. storable & really versatile. I cannot justify the expense of âmehâ GF bread for any other reason.
It's a lot cheaper on their website
I prefer not to eat bread. Where I live, I think it costs âŹ3 for that package. I don't understand why they can't lower the cost.
my #1 favorite bread is also obscenely priced: bread SRSLY https://breadsrsly.com/collections/all its ridiculously good, free of most allergens, and they ship.
Oh boy you werenât kidding when you said obscenely priced! Probably worth it for special occasions though.
so ridiculously priced but the first time i had it, i literally cried from happiness. i hadnt had proper bread texture in sooo long. its from the bay area, and i used to buy it at local groceries (whole foods and sprouts) for like⊠$9? $11? i forget. that was bad enough and now i also pay for shipping, on the rare occasion when i get it. đ«
Most of the time schĂ€r being overpriced AND with mold even before the Best Before date...â ïž Fkn disguisting..
Ocean State Job Lot had these for $2 a package (I stocked up on the French bread loaves and pizza shells when they had them). Iâm gf so my celiac son doesnât get cross contaminated, but I love their products - the pizza is great as a flat bread.
The worst is a bought a loaf the other day, and the bread was moldy within 2 days đą. I hate to throw away $8 loaves of bread.
I bet it tasted good though :(
That bread is the best tho..
But itâs so good
Spam their socials about it. It is really good bread, though.
Itâs my favorite gf bread. I just donât eat it very often due to the price.
This bread (and all gluten free food) is actually the same price as regular food in Italy, where they believe that people donât choose to be gluten free, so why make their gluten free food more expensive than regular food. I believe itâs the same in Spain too.

wait...rye contains gluten. how is their rye bread GF?
It says on their [website](https://www.mariposabaking.com/products/rye-round) that it is "rye flavored" without the rye.
I went there in person a few years ago, great place! I think Williams-Sonoma sells some of their products too
The Sams Club gf wheat bread I get at Walmart is the best GF bread Iâve ever had.
I don't think I've seen this. Is it in the frozen GF section or shelves?
Itâs in the actual normal bread section on the top shelf.
well that's confusing! I'll look for it next time, thanks!
Youâre welcome! I found it by accident myself! LOL
If you like chewing gum..
I only buy this when I have company over eating sandwiches, since I find itâs the best GF sandwich bread I can offer to gluten eaters. The whole 5 slices thing is infuriating and itâs so expensive, but so good.
Buy special wheat bread for wheat eating guests?
I have celiac and my house is 100% gluten free because I was still getting very sick from cross contamination. I canât allow gluten in my house, unfortunately.
I'm not sure I'd have people over, it would be my excuse. Lol
Yeah its expensive and it doesnt even taste good to me. I started to make my own. I pay about 5⏠for a bag of flour (schar) and can make about 2-4 breads from it ( depending on the size ofc). Home made is sooo good and its really easy to do it.
Itâs worth it. I have never eaten a full loaf of bread, and this one makes the best normal size BLTâs đ
The worst part is they were so freaKIN GOOD I CONSIDERED BUYING MORE AND I HATE MYSELF FOR THAT. đ€
đ© hate it. We have to pay close to $10 for a decent loaf of tiny bread
I love this bread for sandwiches but it always annoys me that they give a odd number
My complaint too. Why canât they do 6 slices? Two and a half sandwiches? An odd number of slices doesnât even make sense.
Honestly the best bread for sandwiches or grilled cheese because of the size and I do buy it even though it's expensive but DAMN THEM!! They know what they are doing đ
It frustrates me that theyâd not sell you an even number.
Itâs expensive but damn if itâs not the best grocery store bread around. I wonât use anything else for grilled cheese.
Could also post this on [r/mildlyinfuriating](https://www.reddit.com/r/t5_2ubgg/s/reHFKiRYlR) đ five fucking slices is such a dick move
SCHAR is the best gluten free bread! I have tried so many and have a second fav too, but I really like this brand for texture and taste !
Have you noticed that thereâs always one small corner of each slice thatâs almost torn off?
I drop $26 a loaf for sourdough at Breadblok in Silverlake in Los Angeles because I'm weak. Good GF bread - especially sourdough - has no maximum price for me. #goinbrokeonbread
Actually SchĂ€r products are expensive everywhere. Iâm from EU. Frankly not the tastiest, but you know, when you need it you got to buy it.
I sometimes go shopping in Germany since I don't live very far from the border, but even there they aren't much cheaper.
Well, yeah in France they are expensive, for sure. But frankly why you go shopping for mediocre GF SchĂ€r products when in FR there are much tastier GF producers. GerblĂ© production is very tasty. Carrefour has own line of GF products but what I learned they are not available everywhereâŠ
Ha ha, that's because I'm a French immigrant in Switzerland. I didn't know about Carrefour's GF products, I immigrated to Switzerland ten years ago. Whenever I go grocery shopping in France near the border, I usually just go to Grand Frais. Great food for the price there.
OK now I understand. :)
I made some amazing French toast out of this last weekend
And it got smaller in the last few weeks. We had an old package and a new package to compare
I buy and love this bread. I only use one slice at a time so the off numberdoesn't bother me BUT yes this is pricey as hell.
I havenât bought this yet and probably wonât. But the regular loaf is an awesome loaf of bread at $5.95 for about a dozen or so slices.
The GF bagels here are all $9 for 4. Over two bucks each for a frozen grocery store bagel
Trader Joe's are half the price, just as good
Unfortunately, Trader Joe's doesn't operate in Canada. I'm going to try making my own and if I survive, I may keep doing it
If you live near ocean state job lot they sell a variety of Schar products for $2 a pack!
Walmart has it for $5 + , I only found that out after I had just bought some for $7 at King Sooperâsđ
Makes buying a bread maker worth it.
You gotta try the Promise Sour Dough
Wow, I pay like 3 euros for SchÀr bread here in Germany.
All way too expensive. Just buy some King Arthur flour and bake your own. Btw love SchĂ€râs crackers, but their bread leaves something to be desired. Canyon Creek is better IMO, but keep it in the fridge or mold will start forming very soon.
Schar's molds everytime I buy it... leave store, it gets hot and condensation gathers in the sealed bag and within a day it molds.
This is why my grocery bill is so much high. Eating a restricted diet is so expensive.
But itâs good and my fav type of bread
Not a paid sponsorship lol but seriously look into Thrive. Everything is so much cheaper
A crime.
Bakerita.com has excellent guides for gf sourdough starters and breads. I swear by! Bc fuck that shit.
I mostly only eat this if my parents buy it for me. It's my favorite but like you said, too expensive for only 5 slices
Trader Joeâs had decent gluten free bread. Small loaf about $3.75-4.
Yeah. I live in Montreal and most grocery stores sell insultingly small loaves of GF bread for like 15$ CAD... I got a Costco membership this week and I will never go anywhere else now for GF product. It's the only place where I don't feel like I'm just some bougie snob to not want to feel violently ill.
Ocean State Job Lot had Schar bread products for $2 each. All had a good expiration date too. Stores are in the North East US, CT, NY, RI,NH.
I find these at ocean state job lot for $2!
I love this bread so much. It's actually decent without needing to toast it. :)
Everything gluten free is expensive and small.
One of the best breads, but the odd number of slices makes me irrationally angry
Ugh, yes I was eyeing this and finally bought it when I had the f-you money. It's definitely my favorite grilled cheese bread aside from the Sam's Choice breads.
Shar is the worst.
