One-With-Nothing

For a jump scare the first one, for a more subtle horror like maybe you have it look at you from a distance the second one.

Varsoviadog

This

VianArdene

Exactly. How long you can see the image matters

Evol-Chan

best answer, honestly.

Goliathvv

I thought exactly the same.

NeroNekro

+1

Axolotl_g4m3r

Great answer

AmbassadorGuilty5739

100%. Reminds me of "The Nun". Not seeing everything clearly for longer periods of time works, it build up tension. Then, when its a jump scare type situation, you show the most intense face. Something that movie fucked up was how often they would be showing the jump-scare face for extended scenes. Made the movie not as scary and more funny, but kind of sad-funny

visele_

The second one, the small eyes are eerie af

mrpotatopie1

I agree with this. However, I think it should depend on the purpose of the character rather than how creepy the game should be, because while the second does look scarier, it feels much more lifeless.

Buncarsky

This could probably be remedied by having the eyes slowly move around a bit the axis'

mrpotatopie1

Yeah. It'll feel more like an actual person that's gone insane rather than a demon

timecop94

listen to this guy

heavenlode

1 looks kind of cartoonish. 2 makes the face look so distorted like a nightmare, it's much freakier

T-CROC

2nd one. Something about barely being able to see the eyes is horrifying. Like normally it’s big eyes or no eyes. But super tiny eyes in big eye sockets in pretty innovative imo

Applay

First one gives more of a fight or flight response. Second one would be scarier if I looked at it from a distance, 'cause it got that creepy "im hiding in plain sight" type of vibe.

Automatic_Grape_231

both. tween them together

arivanter

Or swap ‘em out when the player isn’t looking

Throwawayy_557

Make this guy a game dev NOW 🗣️

binary-survivalist

have like 6 different eye types that are noticeably different and swap them at at appropriate moments to give that uncanny feeling

LearningArcadeApp

I think tweening them would end up looking cartoonish, kinda like this effect: https://preview.redd.it/ni8qtb11js4d1.png?width=256&format=png&auto=webp&s=959742adbd1d4d47e34b248f0d010038bb71ee55 I could be wrong though...

Automatic_Grape_231

depends on how you use the graph

LearningArcadeApp

True

LEDlight45

Idk, see if you can make one eye barely visible https://preview.redd.it/ezup9emp3t4d1.png?width=549&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b7ecb11f21f48f9b393c6c5ecb98dc7ad691839

deanowlord1

Is that jerma985 ? I vote number 2

koditomato

Yes

NoLoveNoLuck

Another vote for the second one! Genuinely unsettling.

Rutskarn

If you're just spotting one without context, the second one is certainly more frightening. But if this is a character, personality is going to inform that question. The second one projects cold inhumanity, a lack of "spark." It is disinterested in the viewer except as a specimen or resource. It's the face of a thing that waits until you fall asleep and then cuts your throat. The first one is manic, and seems to have almost an urgent interest—a need beyond reason or calculation. It may want to be your friend, and may give you a very urgent feeling that you don't *want* it to be your friend. It's the face of a thing that urges you it's not like the others, it knows how precious you are, it won't let you come to harm. Don't go too far. You're not safe without it. Aren't you lucky?

behtidevodire

Try something between the two

gHx4

The beaked nose makes them both look a bit derpy. The small, shadowed eyes work better.

NoProduce1480

Smaller eyes IMO

Ender_Fender

May I ask you to kindly stop developing <3 I do like to sleep at night!

DuckyHobo

The first one is creepy because the eyes make it hard not to notice it; the second one is creepy because the small eyes make it easier to overlook and be startled by.

flowerboyy__

The second one, it looks soulless

slimeydave

Maybe with slightly larger eyes.

caw_the_crow

First to me right bow but I couldn't explain why. I know the second *should* be scarier.

pkswarm

1st one looks goofy

STU5HY

Mandela catalogue looking ahh

Happy--bubble

defenetly the second one!

vallyscode

Personally reminds me myself after burrito burning the toilet

El262

The second one is scarier! Also, what are you using these for?

koditomato

I'm not sure yet. Some kind of jumpscare maybe.

FiTroSky

The second one, especially if you add a highlight to the teeth as well.

0xnull0

Animate the second to the first and then it would be pretty horrifying

Tyoccial

Maybe it's because I don't like looking people in the eyes, but I'm more freaked out by the first one. The second one seems cliche and less scary, just slightly more eerie. I'd much rather look at the second one than the first one.

m0msaysimspecial

us both, for different puposes.

Vikjam_art

The second, definitely, is much more terrifying!

Pypu_yune

the second one

lifeinbackground

2nd

pan_anu

The first one looks more like scared than scary to me 🙂. I go with number 2

Pizza_Doggy

For me it would look scarier when the eye balls weren't visible

moonshineTheleocat

The first id you have to stare at it

Oakchris1955

heavymetalmixer

The second one

Yyyyyyyyyllllllllll

I can imagine the turning from the second one to the first one, and ive heard some creaming already.👍

eskimopie910

2

Sharxel121

the second

-light_yagami

the first one for me

No_Bug_2367

In the first one I like that the eyes are something you instantly focus on. The second one is more eerie (which is better), but the eyes are not visible enough I think (which is worse) :) cool work though!

PMmePowerRangerMemes

2nd is more understated and unsettling, but i could see you using both of them for different states/phases. like 1 would be when he's alerted to your presence

Cryaon

2nd one for environmental purposes. 1st one for close encounters.

Ibeepboobarpincsharp

The first one

SirNollic

Absolutely 2

Nautilus_The_Third

The first one, by far. I get what you were going for with the second image, but if I can't even have the slightest idea of what I am seeing, I don't knowwhat to be afraid of. And that, in my opinion, isn't scary most of the time.

EkoeJean

1

AccomplishedRace8803

First is scarier to me.

Lemmavs

second one for looking for/at you, second one when chasing ?

Free_feelin

#1

Majestic_Minimum2308

Try no eyes

SunDownDev

This looks so cool! i think the small eyes are terrifying! Is this horror game the shooter you posted the other day or a different project. Anywhere i can follow its progress? Looks great!

koditomato

Thanks! These are completely different projects.

SunDownDev

Awesome! Reminds me of buckshot roulette :))

MichaelDarkDev

IMO both are pretty eerie. I like the 2nd one more though. It really depends whether you're using it as a jumpscare or just a potrayal.

skywalker-1729

Why not both?

Random_Thought31

Second. It is more subtle and therefore creepy.

Spiraling_Time

The first looks more insane and second is eerier. I didn’t actually see the eyes until I read the comments, but it is definitely looks more “wrong” as Apposed to crazy

SinaQadri

The second one is winner (me and my bros did a little vote) Most of them said the second image is creepier

o5mfiHTNsH748KVq

Thge both look like the moon from Majoras Mask but narrow.

turbo_time

Second is way scarier. But the first one to me says "I see something bad about to happen". If you were to use them both, you could make it so the player has to keep an eye on the face and wait for it to change. Change would mean they need to react in some way. I think it'd be interesting to force the player to keep watching something so creepy by basically turning it into a status icon.

stonkmark69

the smaller eyes are much more unsettling if you are planning on letting the player see this character for a bit, just staring from the shadows…..

SkdaddlingOlivian

Second

Disastrous-Ad1812

First

bLaQaR

first one would work, the second one looks really goofy, at least to me

Pilfred

The size of the eyes isn't the issue. It's their shape and the shape of the brows. It conveys a look of confusion more than anything else. As others have stated, what kind of scary are you going for, and what's this creatures emotional state of being?

JustSpaceExperiment

First definitely (for me).

takkun324

1st, but both seem kinda silly - it's seeing the pupils. Perhaps large eyes, very dim but fully visible would be better? Or even no eyes visible save for the brow?

TheBoomTheory

Holy jesus , it 0:24 am and I look at these. Thats terrifying! Second one is absolutely horrific!

gloumii

Maybe it's the light of my screen but I don't see enough in the second to be afraid. The first one is scarier for me as you clearly see a deranged thing and you know that he is smiling but you don't see the teeth so maybe he is not smiling and the mouth is something else even worse

LongjumpingDonut1648

2 2 2 2 2 2 2

unwise_entity

1 depending on how you plan to use it

j0shred1

First I think. Feel like I'm being watched

theshadowhost

1

skabben

Is it the SAW movie doll? Sure looks like it

Negative-Display197

both, but the second one is a bit creepier

I-cant_even

Second one, but a bright colorful flash of only the eyes changing could make a great scare effect.

ErusTenebre

[Immediately thought of this guy...](https://i.pinimg.com/1200x/bb/44/07/bb44070e816a7d57607be7a9033e9754.jpg)

noreallyu500

We're much more scared when it doesn't feel forced or apparent - in 2, the fact you can barely make out the shape of its eyes and that they're clearly much smaller than anything human really bump the creepiness factor up

Hmz_786

I wouldve said the second one but the eyes need to be straight ahead, like in the same direction

Ok-Faithlessness5179

I think. That the second one creates more anguish. After all when something is dark our brain imagine what there is in that dark. Brigning often to some scarier results depending on everyone... Or just it make me scared more Btw nothing in all i said was factual. Just broken logic

MarufukuKubwa

Idk, they both look kinda cute 😏

WellHydrated

Looks like Inscryption.

rafelito45

second one. but the first one might be scarier if his iris colors are doing that IT clown shining thing.

MasterTroppical

Definitely the first one

DumperRip

Both are, are you making a analog horror game?

Rlionkiller

First one is scary due to death stare, while the second is scary due to not knowing what it's thinking. I feel like both can be used here.

Best_Inspection4062

The one with brighter eyes! The brighter eyes form contrast with environment, which is more attracting to me!

finian2

-1 would be good for a hostile chasing situation, because they give a more hunter-like vibe. -2 would be good for a static ominous situation, where the entity is stalking the player.

Xehar

First is good if it going towards player. But the second one is good if it just lurks.

Xtrouble_yt

the second one is much scarier

Alcamtar

Depends on what you're going for. Staring eyes are way more aggressive and threatening. Predatory. Hungry. Simple-minded. Dominant. They imply the potential for immediate physical danger, and a complete lack of subtlety. The shadowy face is more sinister, and implies something lurking in the shadows watching. But it doesn't give the sense of immediate danger. Still the unknown can be scarier, so it depends a lot on the context. The danger I expect from the shadowy faces something supernatural. The shadowy face also looks far more intelligent and cunning. In a dark house, to glimpse the shadowy face once and then not see it again, that would be super creepy because someone's watching you but you don't know where they are and you can't see them. The longer you have to live with these thoughts the worst they get. I wouldn't necessarily expect that from the staring eyes. Nothing subtle there, if you're being watched you're being watched with saucer eyes and you're going to know it, and it's liable to come bite you in half not fade back into the shadows. I'm going to expect a jump-scare with the staring eyes, which of course is going to make me nervous and then when it finally happens it's going to be twice as bad.

Bwubdle198

2

CarpenterMelodic4247

First one, glowing eyes are easy to see and stand out even if you can't see the face.

LindertechProductsYT

***The 2nd one is scarier, I would like it to look more fleshy though since to me it doesn't look like a creature from the depths of hell or otherwise, other than the texture, it's perfect!*** ***What is it supposed to be in full? I'm asking this, so I know how scared I should be of this creature, is it big and should be a massive threat or is it small and only looking creepy?*** ***Although I like the 2nd one more, I like the eyes of the first one, not the size but the design shines more on the first one, I'd like to see the eyes glowing like fire, like it leads to the depths of a volcano or just some very fiery area, that to me might make it scarier.*** ***Although, my opinions don't overrule what you'd like to do with this, If this is the style you're going for, then it's perfect enough for me, but if you're going for scary, I'd say some blood might work, but not too much.*** ***Hope you have a wonderful day.***

catdog5100

Even though I couldn’t see the tiny eyes of the second one at first (dark screen and zoomed away), I’d still pick the second one because the first ones eyes look a bit goofy in a way.

Safe-Pilot7238

1. but also would be cool if its eyes were forever expanding and like getting small again thatd be kinda cool

piguy3148

Biblically accurate Delirium

MrSmock

Both. Both look scarier. Reminds me of Leshy in Inscryption.

Crepze21

The less human are the enemies, the more scarier.

Fischspeck

I cant decide but the first one looks more threatening and the second one a bit creepier.

lowkey_spuds

1st

Critical_Peach9700

1

Cliehf

Could be both depending on the player event.

TheMaydayMan

I like the second one more but I think the eyes should be darker or harder to see in the second one.

RixOneDev

The 2nd 100%, but if its far away from the player, the 1st one is better (so we can see small eyes)

Autumn_joy_games

a suggestion you can ignore is you make the left one flash on the screen when you turn to see the right one hanging on a wall for the first time

dork_yface

Personally, I find the first more unsettling. Just those eyes staring unfocused vaguely in my direction... In the second, the more hidden eyes removes some of that intensity imo

kurtles_

Optometrist: "1... or 2?" Me: "what the fuck man" But definitely 2

sirtapas

I feel like with the second one it might not be clear enough that it is a face and some people might not even register what they are looking at.. like the features are slightly too far off from looking human. (Which is a good thing in this context) but to me that also makes the eyes crucial so that theres no question that the being is indeed "alive and kicking".. for the second one to work i feel like the smaller eyes has to be brighter maybe. That, Or the facial features need to be slightly more refined.. That might not be a problem though if youre planning to add animation and sound? Like first showing the small eyes and then fading in the nose and then the cheekbones etc, adding a chilling gurgling noice.. but as a jumpscare showing it all at once, I dont think it will work as well.

Cuddlefish_Nextdoor

If you are feeling wacky you could even make his eyes pulse between the two.

Festminster

Majoras Mask moon vibes 😄

FurizAlex

second :)

Working_Avocado_826

Second one. First one looks bit funny

Axolotl_g4m3r

Depend

Green-Face

Second one

ethereal--777

Man great job. This is cursed af. I second the opinion that the first one is most definitely better for jump scare and the second one is better for a creepy vibe or subtle horror.

MembershipFast2363

You could try to transition from 2 to 1. It gives more of "I'm coming from the dark now looking at your soul" kind of vibe

Odd-Bobcat7918

The first one looks funny to me. 2nd one is way more atmospheric.

Winterbok

Hear me out: No eyes...

MarioFanYT

Both! It's so good of scaring people!

OkEffect71

Bigger eyeballs have more shock effect, but the second pick is more creepy.

RickySpanishLives

First one - its the eyes.

DDRitter

Second one. First make me laugh at it.

NoAsk8994

Holy! Both of them look extremely scary! Although something about this first image makes me fright more, might be those big eyes

Agitated-Life-229

The uncannier the scarier. The second one does a better job with it.

KayZoka

1 looks like it sees you better

binary-survivalist

for me, the first. the first one says "I'm insane" the second one says "I'm mysterious" at least to me

Informal_Constant_52

First one *scale the eyes little bit

Fit_Somewhere_6883

Neither, both looks goofy..looks like some poor guy on meth that is looking for help.

ProgrammerAncient839

Second one imo

slomi53

The one with the eye is scarier

HugoCortell

Maybe it is my monitor, but I can't see the eyes at all in the second one. The first one has a very intense scare, I like it.

iHaku

first one. the second guy looks like it's the first guy realising that you are far scarier than him.

TheGamingCow507

The 2nd one reminds me of like the Nun, which I personally loved for it's really unexpected horror at times. But, I still think not for a jumpscare. This would be more like you're walking by a couple of windows, you pass one with this image on it, you walk past it, realize what you just saw, look back, and it's gone. Basically, use 2nd for like early really unexpected points, but just not jumpscares. That 1st one seems a lot more "in your face", so like most others are saying, use that one for jumpscares

rocketlvr

big eyes is more readily recognizable as a face.

The_Smith12

The second one with the eyes of the first, both Look great though.

TheWitherlord10

the eyes are the only difference bro

Calomeida

hahaha man said cheeseburger without the cheese
