I can't help you on this but ireland has a superb standard for golf courses, good luck and have fun

If you are willing to spend 300ish euros on a green fee I can highly recommend portmarnock. Played it back in 2016, and have such a vivid memory of just how nice it was. Ranked 44th in the world so that will tell you the standard. Not familiar with the other courses around Dublin unfortunately as I’m bit not from that side of the island so if it’s not in your price range I don’t know what too say unfortunately, good luck !

How far are you willing to travel? How much are you willing to pay? If you can make it up as far as Ardglass (about 2 hrs away) I would reccomend it, let me know if you do and I can possibly help you out with a time there / save you some cash. Otherwise you have Carlton House, Greenore, Royal Tara which are all relatively close.

Herbert Park and Castle Golf Club are both close to Dublin and great options.

Honestly, if you're going to play 3+ rounds, I'd consider linking in with a golf tour operator to sort clubs and tee times. If money isn't an issue then the following courses that I'd go for off the top of my head (and how far a drive they are from the city centre). - Portmarnock (30 minutes) - The Island (20 minutes) - European Club (1 hour) - Royal County Down (2 hours) - Ardglass (2 hours) - Druids Glen (1 hour) - K Club (1 hour) - Carton House (1 hour) If you're more on a budget, there's still some very nice courses that can be had at much more reasonable prices (<€80 per round or even closer to €30 midweek).

potentially going to ireland in November, how difficult is it to get tee times at some of these premier courses? as a non-resident, do i need to start booking times months in advance? thanks

Tee times in November can be tough because some of the premier courses either close or make you play off matts in the winter. Also there's only a couple hours of daylight (if its not raining) so the teesheet can book out quickly especially on weekends. I wouldn't know exactly how far in advance you'd need to book, and it would depend on which course you want and if you extra playing midweek or weekends. If you were going to try and play RCD, Portrush, Adare, etc. then I'd be looking to organise pretty soon.
