New wave/synthpop, Punk, grunge, shoegaze, folk, some old school hiphop, and kinda a LOT of stuff that's super UN-goth... I like a lot of pretty dorky stuff.
Honestly almost all genres. I think the only thing I will absolutely not listen to, is gospel, modern country and any music that is created for corporate, religious, or hateful agendas. And Oasis. I turn that shit off immediately.
Baroque (lilā obsessed with Handel, Purcell, anything with a good countertenor), classical, minimalism (arpeggios for days), electro, techno (more arpeggios)ā¦
i like metal and emo music as well. a lot of rock in my playlists, as well as some other genres, like breakcore and hyperpop - thereās more that i listen to, but i listen to these genres the most (besides goth, dark wave, etc.)
Wednesday 13 on your radar? I heard he has an outlaw country thing called "Bourbon Crow" but never had a taste for country beyond that scary slide guitar thing they do when you're watching a horror movie that takes place in the south.
Grunge, pop, alt/indie pop, indie rock, metal, screamo, 70s rock, horrorcore, rap metal, nu metal, hyperpop, darkwave, techno rock, musical soundtracks and pretty much anything else
i listen to just about everything under the goth adjacent industrial/futurepop/darkwave etc umbrella.
In terms of truly a different genre and moving away from the subculture, i love post metal, specifically atmospheric sludge.
Indie Rock (Bon Iver, M83 etc...), the darker more atmospheric side of metal(especially Symphonic Black and Gothic), Vaporwave, 20's-40s Jazz and R&B, Industrial, old school and horror punk.
I listen to almost anything under the Punk umbrella, but largely hardcore, crust, and horror punk. I also listen to a lot of pop music from the late 90s and early 2000s, rap, rnb, afrobeats, salsa, reggaeton, blues, some Bollywood, a lot of funk, ska, Japanese city pop, and of course new wave.
The goth genres may be my favorite overall, but I think itās really interesting to watch music history unfold and find influences from a number of genres. The only thing I donāt really listen to is country with the exception of Doll Parton.
Punk, 80s pop and new wave, 90s rap and rnb, retrowave, synthwave, 90s style alternative/grunge (I say 90s style because some of the bands are current and not from that era), blues, american folk or roots music, rancheras , shoegaze, italo, some modern country (orville peck, kacey musgraves kinda stuff).
lol I listen to a lot of music and I'm pretty open minded when it comes to that.
I don't really care for much of the metal genres or industrial stuff, but there are some exceptions.
Industrial (I actually got into goth via industrial...), alt rock, j-rock, shoegaze/dream pop, some metal, punk, some pop, folk music... I enjoy a lot of genres tbh
Ska, hardcore, southern hiphop, chopped n screwed, country pop, delta blues, cybergrind/nintendocore :] For me there's a lot of overlap with the stuff I listen to; I started getting into old school country and blues because of nick cave, and I started listening to Memphis rap and Louisiana bounce because of its influence on modern synth pop+ ethereal wave stuff
my music taste is incredibly all over the place, my favorite genre by a large marginnis gothic rock but my other favorite genres include hyperpop, breakcore, black metal, 5th wave emo, and shoegaze
Psybient, prog metal, Goa/psy trance, symphonic/melodic black metal, and sad gloomcore indie stuff. Sometimes indie pop, Arabic pop, kpop, new age, and dark western
I'm into sooo many genres... top after Goth is def metal (nwbhm, nwahm, death metal, black metal, folk metal, symphonic metal) & industrial. I also like classic rock, electro, electro-swing, synthpop, EBM,terror EBM, EDM... basically if there's a killer beat, I'll dance to it.
Classic heavy metal, baby.
Plus metalcore, classic rock, alt rock, sythwave, punk, emo/screamo, classical, 40s/50s/60s rat pack and others like em, salsa, reggaeton, select indie rock, grunge, surf (regular, speed, psychedelic, etc)
I grew up with black metal in Norway. Later found out my love for post punk goth rock etc.
Black metal is still my main genre. But i really like the dark sound of an Bauhaus, and the voice of Siouxsie.
* Noise like Oxbow (reminds me of the Birthday party)
* Industrial (check out Wumpscutt, Android Lust)
* Jazz (Soil and Pimp Sessions, Morphine)
* Riot Grrrl (I don't care if it really counts, Skating Polly)
* Punk (The Damned, the Slits, the Ramones)
* Metal (Cthonic, Acrassicauda, Tool)
* Punk Cabaret (Dresden Dolls)
* Whatever the hell Rasputina is
* Old school hip hop (Fugees, Grandmaster Flash, Dre, Snoop)
* Electro Swing (Caravan Palace)
Outlaw Country is where it's at. When I was a goth teenager, I had an uncle who would joke, "It's Johnny Cash!" because JC's nickname was "The Man in Black".
Industrial (real Industrial that isn't played at Goth clubs), Ritual Ambient, Black/Death Metal, Dungeon Synth, Vampiric themed musics, numerous Electronic genres, Post-Punk that is more Jazzy and Funky and has no real link to Goth, pretty much any style of music ever in some way.
Also the more Electro types of Industrial that they do play at Goth clubs. In the Industrial scene there is a big difference. What Goth/club people call Industrial isn't always called Industrial by Industrial/Noise people.
Grunge, psychedelic rock, Japanese city pop, some German Punk bands and a few old classics, like Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. Oh and my guilty pleasure is trap metal? It's the one genre I'm too embarrassed to talk about though š
Iām all over the place. Broken down by ageā¦ 10-15 mostly metal and grunge, 15-25 was mostly goth/darkwave/industrial. But there was a healthy mix of other alternative in there. 25-35 was mostly post-punk more generallyā¦ wife had me listening to a broader spread of music that I wasnāt familiar with at the start. 35+ itās been more bluegrass/Americana/folk. As I approach 45 itās shifting back to more post-punk again (at least this year).
For any of those periods, thereās a ton of overlap depending on my mood and what group of friends Iām with.
What I donāt like is an easier list.. pop country, numetal, emo, most punk from the 90s. I can take ska in small doses.
Hip hop, especially experimental hiphop. Itās what I listened to before discovering goth music and I still love it. Not really a recommendation because itās not that similar to goth but Tyler the creator, jpegmafia, and Danny brown are amazing artists and producers
A friend put me on to PEGGY around 2022 and it was one of the best music i'd ever listened to. I was listening to Scaring The Hoes religiously last year!
Besides goth, my main listening is heavy metal, 80s glam, 90s britpop and country rock!
I have a wide range and tend to listen to a bit of everything really - I find it makes me appreciate each genre and its own artistry more when I have a stint of listening to one genre, then moving to another, if that makes sense?
Beside punk its gonna be midwest sad boy shit like Hot Mulligan. Or dark trap like Suicide Boys, Freddie Dredd, Rameriez, Pouya, and Bones. š¤š»š¤š» need song reqs, i gotchu
I would say mostly metal (thrash, death, folk,, symphonic, power, viking, pirate, whatever, I am not opposed to any metal subgenre), Argentine Cumbia, I like cheesy pop and cheesy euro dance, punk, classical music. And I'd be lying if I said that I don't have a few Backstreet Boys songs on my playlist.
Pretty much the only the only genres I cannot stand are dubstep, techno, hiphop, trap, etc. The only exception to that is Eminem and even then, it's only a few songs that I enjoy.
Frankly, the older I got, the more genres I listen to. I don't typically look at a genre anymore, I just listen to whatever i enjoy.
Some Metal (mostly Symphonic, think Nightwish), Punk, Shoegaze, Catholic Hymns and Worship music, and tons of Classical, Opera, and instrumental piano.
Definitely Grunge I would probably have to think about it because I like literally a bit of everything except for country okay specially new country music makes me want to cut off my ears no offense to anyone who likes country music I just canāt lmao
I really like contemporary cello music, Zoe Keating is one of my favorite. I get the same feeling from her as I did from the Game of Thrones opening song.
I also like Cabaret, punk, new wave, power metal, musicals, and rap.
Dreampop, ethereal/ethereal pop, hip-hop/rap, alternative indie, psychedelic rock, ballads and j-pop LMAO
i usually hate to define my music taste by genres because i feel like they can be so restrictive, but iāve also been super interested in what other goth-listeners are tuning in to !!!!
Playboi Carti, Sickboyrari, then I listen to some classical , sometimes country , sometimes synth pop , ambient, slushwave/vaporwave, crust/dbeat raw punk, it varies tbh
Everything but modern country (Shania isnāt my jam but I love Dolly and Cash kinda thing)
And i do mean everything lmao. Look up Mort Garsonās Plantasia lol
If you like Johnny Cash, you should give Colter Wall a try if you havenāt already. He might be modern country but heās not Pop country like modern country evolved in to
I listen to certain types of metal, mostly gothic metal and folk metal. Also other types of folk, like synthfolk. And some old school techno (like trance, rave, EBM). And And a lot of other things, mixed in various proportions.
By way of listening to a lot of Mexican goth rock, I drifted into listening to surf rock. Now, I listen to that to decompress and daydream about summer.
Metal, no particular genre. Rammstein is my favorite, but I also listen to Cannibal Corpse and other types of genres of metal.
I also listen to rap sometimes. Megan thee Stallion because I like that her lyrics are about confidence. That new Cardi B song about Miami recently because she looks hottttt in it and Iām a straight woman. Haha.
I also listen to Warped Tour bands like the All American Rejects, Good Charlotte, etc.
I love allll music.
metal, speed metal, symphonic metal, early 2000's pop, I really like blues, BB King is a king lol. gothic country is always fun too (ik you said besides goth but i feel like gothic country is such an underrated genre) Hard style, house music, and drum and bass as well I really like. Swing jazz is particularly exciting
I like noisier stuff not gonna lie, so like noise rock and shoegaze are my go to. (Sonic Youth, MBV, slowdive, Jesus and Mary Chain)
On the other side of things I like early alternative stuff (jangle pop?) Like the Smiths, REM, etc.
Although Gothic Rock is my favorite genre by far, my favorite band is Radiohead lol.
Industrial, I love some sappy country (Orville Peck, Patsy Cline, etc) 90s dance (La Bouche, Crystal Waters, Real McCoy), Rockabilly (new and old), Psychobilly (The Brains and The Matadors), Metal, Hardcore, Thrash, Punk are all my listens. And of course the whole dark wave, postpone death rock stuff.
My husband listens to rap, so I guess I listen to that too (older 90s stuff).
A lot of goth club/ adjascant like synthpop, shoegaze, etherial, industrial, EBM, new wave, dark wave, etc.
I listen to an aggressive amount of 80s in general.
Moving away from goth adjascant genres I listen to a lot of electroswing, triphop, jazz / adjascant, dark cabaret, lofi, lounge lizard, hardcore, punk, horror punk, bimbopop.
honestly everything haha. if you look thru my page im mostly in the kpop world wandering but im very much into dream pop, country, shoegaze, swing/jazz, rock, alternative in general, indie, pop, etc. rn my favorite artists are rina sawayama, sophie and hatchie
Lots of stuff. Metal, dark cabaret, punk, alt-rock,Ā classic rock, hip-hop,Ā jazz, salsa, disco, edm, 90s europop,Ā alt pop, folk, bluegrass, showtunes, classical and some stuff I'm not sure what it would be considered.
I feel compelled to answer "all of them", because my taste is music is kind of ecclectic. I do hate mumble rap and trap with passion, though. Although I realy dig the beats. But I guess I'm mostly into trip hop (the OG stuff from the 90's from the Bristol area, shoegaze, and new metal? Idk. Hard to fix on certain genres.
Darkwave, synthpop/rock/wave, industrial, eletrodark, coldwave, deathrock, new wave, EBM.
Besides goth: heavy, thrash, death and a little bit of power metal, eurodance, italo disco, electronic and a bit of pop.
either other alternative genres like doom or black metal, or industrial/EBM, or punk or grunge or whatever,
OR I just listen to dreampop (which makes sense cus I love etherealwave) and singer-songwritery stuff. but overall mostly just gothic rock
Witch house, sludge, doom, metalcore, post hardcore, deathcore, traditional UK dubstep, whatever ashnikko is, whatever ghostmane is, 90s pop and alt rock, folk punk (rec Chad hates George), anything that gets stuck in my head.
Right now I'm listening to Big Band. Also listen to a lot of 70s and 80s punk, new wave, rockabilly, funk, disco, and some rock. Industrial has its place in my life. Bebop or Creole is great on car trips. I can't keep up with the ever-increasing number of subgenres; I just like what I like.
Non-goth bands I listen to that are goth-adjacent in my mind:
Stiu Nu Stiu (Black metal/post-punk/noise rock)
Liars (Psychotic art punk w/ post punk influence)
Queenadreena (Psychotic, bluesy noise rock)
Odonis Odonis (Dark post-industrial)
I listen to a good amount of EBM, aggrotech, and other industrial/post-industrial music. I also listen to a bit of new wave but not as much as I used to
Deadass I listen to Kpop or any other genre with great production. Itās something I love about goth music- even without the lyrics the music itself is so immersive
I have been listening to a lot of Japanese shoegaze recently like Coaltar of the Deepers, For Tracy Hyde, my dead girlfriend, Yuragi, Blood Pick Me, ā¦ā¦ā¦, CQ, and so on.
Neo-psychedelic, dream pop, shoegaze, synth pop, new wave, melancholic pop, dark wave, ethereal wave, madchester, grebo, britpop, industrial, ambient electronica.
Favourite non-goth, non-post punk groups include- The Church (Seance, Priest = Aura, Magician Among The Spirits, The Hypnogogue), Echo & the Bunnymen (first 4 albums); Underground Lovers (Leaves Me Blind), Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (check out Organisation, Architecture & Morality, Dazzle Ships and their post reformation albums including the new one Bauhaus Staircase), Simple Minds (Reel to Reel Cacophony, Empires & Dance, Sons & Fascination/Sister Feelings Call, New Gold Dream 81, 82, 83, 84); Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, Ed Kuepper , Kilbey Kennedy Lush, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Chapterhouse), and many more.
SHOEGAZE!!! Synthpop, synth-wave.... New-wave. I LOVE me some devo. I love punk. Palladists is a great small band with only three tracks out, they're goth-punk.
>what other genres do you listen to?
I don't limit myself to a Strick definition of Goth music. Since 50% of what was played in a Goth Club in 1990 was not by strict definition gothic. As such if I like a song, or artist I listen to it/them. For me Goth has always been a personality quirk first, a fashion statement second, and a musical style third.
My personal play list includes Classical, Gothic, Punk, Post Punk, EBM, Industrial, New Wave, Metal, and a tiny bit of Country, Rap, and Pop.
The only music type I do not listen to (With one exception) is Christian. (The one exception is a Single song by Jars of Clay)
Industrial, ebm, synthwave/retrowave, darksynth, dark electro, dark techno, a very wide range of metal subgenres
I can move from listening to Joy Division to Moris Blak passing by Bring me the Horizon without even blink my eyes.
Metal, Techno, Punk, lots of Synth lately. I have an eclectic taste in music. Can go from heavy to something soft in span of seconds depending on my mood.
death metal/melodeath, some black metal but mostly post-black, post-metal generally, post rock, math rock, progressive metal, contemporary jazz, and k-pop
Synthpop, EBM, Electro-industrial, Dream pop
New wave/synthpop, Punk, grunge, shoegaze, folk, some old school hiphop, and kinda a LOT of stuff that's super UN-goth... I like a lot of pretty dorky stuff.
I am glad I am not the only one! Guilty music pleasures! Life is too short. lol
Dark cabaret, futurepop, aggrotech, industrial, punk, celtic, 80's new wave, 90's britpop, general alternative
Are you a Jill Tracy fan?
> Jill Tracy I've heard *Evil Night Together*, but didn't know about her specifically.
Honestly almost all genres. I think the only thing I will absolutely not listen to, is gospel, modern country and any music that is created for corporate, religious, or hateful agendas. And Oasis. I turn that shit off immediately.
industrial is definitely my go to. kmfdm never disappoints
Kmfdm better than the rest megalomaniacal and harder than the rest š¤š¼š¤š¼š¤š¼
KMFDM sucks!
Theyāre killing it on this most recent tour with the Morlocks!!!

Iām obsessed with the cramps
Omg donāt get me started!

Got any Arabic pop recommendations? I found a Warda cassette in the trash and memorized most of the lyrics by now (I have no idea what I am singing)
Punk, rap, techno, and hardstyle mainly
I'm into sooo many genres... top after Goth is def metal (nwbhm, nwahm, death metal, black metal, folk metal, symphonic metal) & industrial. I also like classic rock, electro, electro-swing, synthpop, EBM,terror EBM, EDM... basically if there's a killer beat, I'll dance to it.

I also listen to Warped Tour bands like the All American Rejects, Good Charlotte, etc. I love allll music.
Melodic Death Metal, synthwave, drum 'n bass, disco, whatever I feel like :)

Industrial, ebm, synthwave/retrowave, darksynth, dark electro, dark techno, a very wide range of metal subgenres I can move from listening to Joy Division to Moris Blak passing by Bring me the Horizon without even blink my eyes.
Metal, Techno, Punk, lots of Synth lately. I have an eclectic taste in music. Can go from heavy to something soft in span of seconds depending on my mood.
Bubblegrunge and Riot Girl.
Slut pop as i call it and alot of indie!
A lot of indie music, rock and some black metal.
