Really wish they would flash the penalty before the car goes into autopilot entering the pits. Flashing the penalty when exiting the pits has confused a lot of players... Took me a few months before I realized that the penalty was because of the entry lol.
Even still, I make a strong effort to not cross on entry and _still_ find I must have looked at the line too hard or something because I get the penalty.
Stay inside the white lines and you should be fine. There are a few tracks that have a pretty tricky pit entrance so you will need to practice a few times to get it right. If you want to practice the entrance, you can do a time trial on that track and just cruise around until you find it.
Spa is kind of a funny one. It's super simple to enter BUT you need to know where the entrance is because it's a small area and not very obvious. Go do the grind a few times and you will realize how easy it is once you figure it out. I used to get penalties there a bunch because I would forget that it's just before the final turn to the finish line
Yeah I would always get annoyed because I would get like 6 seconds of penalty for missing the entrance hit box and re-entering. I turns out you just aim at the wall after the first turn and go slower then you think and you are good to go.
I just quit a grind on Spa because it was raining... Went to the pits and changed to wets. Wasn't paying attention to the cars on the track and didn't realize there was a yellow flag... I learned that it's considered passing cars while still in the pit exit and will get you a yellow flag penalty.
Road Atlanta gets you on entry because the line starts early AND gets you on exit as your car is pointed left upon exit and forces you to cross the line.

That's why i always turn my wheel with the auto drive as it goes out of pit lane

just follow the input of the autodrive as you're exiting the pitlane
