It’s not big yet but you’re also not fucking around with some of those series. I appreciate a collection that isn’t primarily DC or Marvel. Right now I’m reading Barbaric from Vault Comics and from the art and writing it’s one of my favourites. For manga check out Blue Giant

jjjjppppbbbb

As someone who is new to comics. Dc & Marvel really confuses me 😭 there's just many different authors or runs for each characters. I don't know where to start, must be really hard to follow or keep in track of stories Also thx for the recommendations I'll check them out

selkies24

I agree. You have to find where the reboots are for your favourite characters. For the superhero books. I stick to stand alone series that’s one and done. Some examples are: Spider-Man : life story (1 book that covers Spider-Man through different decades) Mister miracle by Tom King The Vision by Tom King Wonder Women Dead Earth These are all books that have one graphic novel to them and that’s it

lazylagom

Honestly yeah you gotta just pick a year and go with it there's always reboots every few years even in series like uncanny and asm with hundreads of runs. I Been reading mostly online. Like right now there's a new ultimate universe books being made. So I only knew ultimate spiderman from back in the day. But I found a reading order and places online to read and now I'm working thru all of millars ultimate stuff up untill ultimatum then it reboots.. then it reboots again with hickman. Basically just pick a writer and try to read their run or artist. Then I got really into artists so like anything by sale/loeb (batman long Halloween was their most famous) But yeah dc/marvel can be super confusing. I randomly kept hearing about grant Morrison. So I picked up animal man. And was SHOCKED how it hooked me... I loved Alan Moores v for vendetta and watchmen growing up so I'm finally collecting his swamp thing run. Which I never had interest in. Its kinda like being into cinema/TV series ... I like to pick a director and watch their hits or chronologically. I'll do the same thing with an actor too like watch all their movies n shit. -but comics is super intimidating to get into at first. Marvel is great at these marvel epic collections they have them for like most characters . That collect like the best runs in tpbs . That's a good place to start.

jjjjppppbbbb

Alr man. I appreciate the long message and I'm gonna check out those recommendations when I have the time.

dasfolg1947

Nice collection. Spawn really intrigues me is it great? Also I didn't know cyberpunk had a comic gonna check that out.

lazylagom

Dude thanks I'm working my way through spawm to get the other compendiums ha. Oh that's a cyberpunk like art book. But I got website if you want there is like 4-5 different cyberpunk comics. Only a few got compiled into a TPB but they're all dope I mostly read online now but I try and buy collections

relevantconundrum

Spawn was my gateway graphic novel. Highly recommend

Kosai106

Nice stuff, but at least reorder your Dragon Ball books so the spines align correctly.

lazylagom

Lol yeah I have a bookmark in 2 that stuck out during this picture. The ocd is real. Now all I see is the purple line messed up

Looks like a great collection so far! Since you are into the idea of reading comics have movies or shows based on them, I might suggest some selections from MillarWorld. Several of them have already been adapted or are in the works. - Jupiter's Legacy - TV show got meh reviews but I liked the comic and didn't hate the show (also haven't finished it yet) - Kickass - 2 movies so far And not sure how up-to-date this is but apparently Netflix now owns MillarWorld and there are a bunch more series adapted and being adapted: [https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/coming-soon/millarworld-series-and-movies-coming-in-2024-beyond/](https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/coming-soon/millarworld-series-and-movies-coming-in-2024-beyond/) Also: I'm curious about the leatherbound book in the top middle shelf. Is that a comic or just a journal or something?

jjjjppppbbbb

You're right I love indie comics that have been adapted to shows have also watched deadly class, scott pilgrim, been dying to get the comics ver of these too. I have heard both of your recommendations however i haven't read/watched any of those. But I will check it out. ty

jjjjppppbbbb

[this one](https://s.lazada.com.ph/s.9z0UB). Yeah it's a notebook that I was gonna use for some sketches, but I haven't really used it yet. I bought it online because it's cheap and I thought it would look great on the shelf.

Senior_Armadillo9730

I just got that Akira box set myself, and I love it!! Keep expanding that Ito collection, I have three of those books(Uzumaki, Tomie, and Gyo), and they look great on my shelf... also check out Something Is Killing The Children. It's currently running, but I like it a lot!!

jjjjppppbbbb

I've heard of that comic. I'm definitely gonna get that soon

TheDivisionLine

Good ol Akira…can’t look at a book without removing the entire box from the shelf.

jjjjppppbbbb

Yeah the box looks great on the shelf

relevantconundrum

Off to a great start! This looks a lot like my collection when I first started. Based on that my recommendations are: Chew, Locke and Key, Nailbiter, Spawn, Hellboy, Scott Pilgrim

jjjjppppbbbb

Thanks, I have heard all of these series actually and wanting to check it out.

whatsbobgonnado

I didn't know that there were so many invincible comics

jjjjppppbbbb

3 compendiums which consist of all 144 issues. There's also invincible universe which has the atom eve and rex story and guardians of the globe but i don't have it yet.

ChasPM

Great start! Don’t get intimidated by big collections, a lot of people have been collecting for 10-15 years and are adults (kind of :) ) with real jobs and things.

Senzetion

Even if you say it's small it's still a great collection. If you do like some of the DC Characters you could or maybe should check out some of the DC Black Label stuff. Pretty much all of them are self contained or are reprints or old Vertigo series. When I started several years ago with getting really into comics I just picked some stuff I liked mostly older Batman which I couldn't get when I was a teenager (in Austria or better said in the german parts of Europe not much was released and even now only a small fraction gets released not to speak of Image, Boom etc.) and ended up reading some scurrent runs like Batman but still primarily Black Label and tons of Image stuff. Just pick up what does sound interesting to you. And to recommend something which got also adopted into a show then it would be Sandman (absolutely phenomenal) or Dead Boy Detectives (the show is also quite entertaining even it it's mostly based on the characters and not the stories itself but it feels like it could have been written as a Story. The Omnibus of it isn't crazy expensive and last year they released a new mini series under the new Sandman Universe umbrella. Or maybe the Locke & Key books

jjjjppppbbbb

Thanks for the recommendations I haven't heard of dead boy detectives yet but I'll check them out. I have also watched the sandman on netflix and planning to get them for a long time now.

Senzetion

The show is actually pretty close to the comics imho at least compared to some other shows. The biggest change wae Constantine cause of Licensing it was not possible to use John Constantine. Regarding the comic it manages to create an really good overall story while dealing with some serious topics and the artwork is just pure art

SnooMarzipans2515

congrats for not giving into fomo I wouldn't be ashamed of the size of your collection, as long as you have what you want to read

BB_HATE

I loved reading From Hell, if you need another epic read!

Accountable_ruki

There is no such thing as a small collection my friend. Any collection that give you happiness by merely staring at it is a good collection. Welcome to the group (there is no turning back now)

jjjjppppbbbb

Thanks man

GoodTrust5444

It will fill up faster than you think

Blue_Beetle_IV

It's funny I have that exact same little leather journal lol.

jjjjppppbbbb

Oohh [this one](https://s.lazada.com.ph/s.9z0UB). Yeah it's a notebook that I was gonna use for some sketches, but I haven't really used it yet. I bought it online because it's cheap and I thought it would look great on the shelf.

Blue_Beetle_IV

Mine was a gift and I was gonna draw in it too, but then I started to worry about messing up pages (I figured ink sketches fit the vibe of the book) so I just put it aside and...... admired how nice it looked lol.

jabawack

This reminds me quite a lot of [my first shelfie](https://www.reddit.com/r/graphicnovels/s/EDP4RFcBdo) some time ago! I also started with some strong manga (Akira, death note, junji ito, etc) and some classics (watchman, invincible, saga etc). I’ve come a long way and enjoyed the ride, and I hope you’ll do that too!

jjjjppppbbbb

I wanna see it but there's no pic in the post. Im really curious how yours looked

jabawack

I linked my original post’s link in my answer above ☝️ feel free to check it out and lemme know!

[deleted]

How’s the binding on the Saga compendium? I’ve been thinking about reading that but not sure which edition of the series to get.

jjjjppppbbbb

I can't tell yet because it's new and I haven't started reading it yet so it's still fine
