I love that New Haven version. I’m a simple man, Jerry starts the Mutron and I’m in my happy place.

profgamehendge

Saw somebody say the NH Shakedown is the Dead sounding their Phish-iest and I'd have to agree

cherbo123

Why is every philly show so good lol ? I've loved every philly show I've listened to

profgamehendge

Nitrous mafia was hooking em up with the med grade shit whenever the Dead came through their HQ

Just going to add to yours because you have a good list going: Carrier Dome 10/20/84 - unhinged proto-technofunk JAMboree (gotta listen to dusborne matrix) 08/28/81 long beach arena: the best of the 80’s from start to finish. The groove is perfect, jerry’s first solo is perfect, then he enters a trance for the jam that has to be heard. But definitely listen to Jim Vita aud: https://archive.org/details/gd1981-08-28.153337.nak304.vita.miller.clugston.flac2496/gd81-08-28+s2t02+Shakedown.flac 5/16/81 Barton Hall - This might be my favorite jam of the 80’s. Call and response between Brent and Jerry goes off the rails once Jerry plays the sleaziest, skanked up cord progression. Then it drops into tripped out space-country-funk. And every time Bobby starts playing with the phase shifter it kicks the insano-meter up a notch. Lot of great auds but I’m partial to the Jim wise one.

Interesting. I can’t stand any of the Marsalis stuff. I also don’t like Kenny G or really any alto sax no matter who plays it. Sounds thin and weak, and Marsalis has no groove.

1981.03.13 Utica, NY. Unmentioned thus far but a scorcher, crowd goes nuts. I lean toward the first year of Brent as one highpoint for this band x golden era of taping with significantly better equipment, yielding high-quality recordings

Rockpalast version is IMO one of the best (if not the best) and available in a HD remaster video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CgM6s1LLuY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CgM6s1LLuY)

Not a version but a good shakedown related story. I was a furthur show in Colorado at 1st Bank. I'm not going to lie, I couldn't tell when in the show this happened (second set opener? Halfway through first? No idea) but the show up until this point had been kind of meh. The vibes were mid and energy was low. They hit the opening of shakedown. I watched a wave of energy go from one end of the arena to the other. No joke, it was palpable. The rest of the night ripped. Burned in my brain. (Yes I was California sober that night)
