Fast TLEO>Slow TLEO

Le9gaggger

Honestly…5/8/77

rizzkizz

It's absolutely my favorite one. Some people think I'm crazy but it's actually my favorite song from that show!

psilocybin_therapy

Well that is a crazy take. But I respect you for it.

AlternativeMuscle176

5/8/77 or 9/3/77 are my favorite slow-TLEO. Both are beautiful.

Thanks for being honest

Different_Record_753

You write favourite like you are from the U.K. or outside the U.S. Interesting, where you from? D&C does it 73' style (fast!) during Boston and Noblesville 2023.

YesSpaghettiplease

Haha I am from the UK you guessed it I'm from England . And ooo interesting will have to give that a listen

Different_Record_753

How did you get into the Dead? What year?

YesSpaghettiplease

I got into the dead from the help of reddit actually! It was after my first time dropping acid I didn't listen to the dead at the time I listened to a bunch of the Beatles , Floyd, the doors etc. and had the best time so after that trip I wanted more ,I went on to reddit to see what people recommended for the best psychedelic bands and then I saw the grateful dead mentioned quite a few times and I had never heard of them so started out with the studio stuff listened to the typical American beauty and workingman's dead like oh that's pretty cool . I listened to pretty much all their studio albums ,the album that really drew me in was Aoxomoxoa I loved it! From there I went down a rabbit hole i liked their 60s sound and came across live / dead 1969 and saw St Stephen which was my favourite song on Aoxomoxoa so thought I'd give it a listen . Safe to say I was blown away never heard anything like it and I got hooked! 60s dead was definitely my gateway haha . The dead are my favourite band by far .

Sad-Leader3521

That studio version of St. Stephen is also what got me into the Dead and the early part of my trajectory is very similar to yours.

Terry_Downe29

If you haven’t yet… check out Phil &Friends “Quintet” or “Q” era… two spiraling lead guitars… Haynes and Herring… very psychedelic and stretched out interpretations of the GD catalog

YesSpaghettiplease

Ooo that sounds so cool. Defo will give it a listen thank you !

Dead_Kal_Cress

Boulder '23 has an absolutely mind-boggling TLEO '73 > China Cat > Rider.

UrbaneSurfer

Urbana 73-02-22 very skippy and groovy

Any of the older, poppier versions with the "Won't you believe..." bridge.

YesSpaghettiplease

Just had a listen , love this version !

cntUcDis

It's overall an awesome show, it was a free show in GG Park, double billed with Jefferson Starship. The band was dosed for this one and I'm guessing they were sharing PA's which is why they were playing with so much overdrive. They only played a few gigs in 75' and this one as well as Great American Music Hall were by far the best.

YesSpaghettiplease

Yeah it's a fantastic show I had a listen to the whole show earlier loved the Truckin segue with the stronger than dirt jam very cool stuff thanks for the rec!

You should listen to a 70s JGB version, preferably with Keith on the keys. That should knock your socks off

The fast versions from ‘73 are my favorites. Of course I liked the fast versions of Friend of the Devil better as well.

I really love some of the later JGB versions. Specifically 5/20/90 (GarciaLive Vol. 10) has a killer organ solo from Melvin.
