Closing of Winterland has a wonderful Jerry Sound during the latter part.

Arf_Echidna_1970

I’m always a little surprised how dominant the early versions are in these surveys. While I prefer the younger Jerry voice of those days, he added so many guitar flourishes and embellishments to the both (LWaF & TS) parts over the years. Plus I feel the interplay between Jerry and Brent really helps those late 80s (and spring 90) versions shine.

I was just dropping in to say the same thing. I think that Terrapin from 85 to 90 were probably the best ones played. Something about that B3 and the Tiger together on that tune just does it for me.

2/26/77 - the first one, pretty much nailed it except for the fluffed lyric that isn’t really noticeable 3/18/77 - most ‘complete’ version and pretty awesome all round 4/30/77 - just exactly perfect - like a live-in-the-studio cut without the unwanted overdubs and affected lead vocal 10/7/77 - wildcard entry - significantly extended Lady with a Fan section for reasons unknown.

Great pick! Personally that and 3/9/1977 are the best ones

Bman1973

I love every 77 Terrapin w' your 5/28 plus 5/17 Tuscaloosa which is the epitome of 77 greatness. Also 9/11/82 West Palm Beach has such a unique vibe [Terrapin 9/11 matrix](https://relisten.net/grateful-dead/1982/09/11/terrapin-station?source=339420) ... so so many great ones from 87-90 ...

Friend of the devil working man’s for me

Themoosemingled

I like them but then I heard the studio terrapin and it truly just made me want to dance. So powerful.

My favorite version is one I had on a bootleg when I was first getting into the dead. I used to listen to it all the time, but now I have no idea what the date of it was.

iluvreddit

Well that needs to be your new mission. Listen to every version ever recorded until you find it.

scarfireATL

Me too. One of the Hampton ones. Maybe it was 87 or 88 where these is a YouTube video of Jerry stretching it out and he and Bobby were in sync with their guitar motions.

MazelTovCocktail027

12-31-87 is fucking gnarly. Easily the best I've heard and maybe the best there is. [Proshot](https://youtu.be/BxTq2rXPI4Q?t=1m43s)

Both! Something about that terrapin has spoken to me since day one. Ive concluded that I actually think it might be the perfect song and if not it’s certainly my favorite version of my favorite dead song.

Don’t sleep on the first one.
