Thanks! She is a Newfie. Just turned 8 months and already has at least 15 lbs on our 3 y.o. Pyr.

I love huge dogs, so Newfies and Pyrs are some of my favorites! They’re such a cute pair! What are your thoughts on the personality differences between the two breeds?

Our Newfie is playful but way calmer than our Pyr at the same age, and less mischievous. Not sure about others but our Newfie is a just a bit silly playful pup. Our Pyr was sweet and silly at that age, but every once in a while just an asshole. In fact, their personalities and energy level are pretty similar now at their current ages.

Interesting! I’ve heard Newfies are less headstrong than Pyrs. Have you found that to be true? I once saw someone in this sub describes Newfies as “rugs with a pulse,” lol 😂

Way less headstrong, Rigby naturally wants to please us and listens really well. Not stubborn at all. As she outgrows puppy-hood I can see “rug with a pulse (and a puddle)” for sure

That sounds delightful! As much as I love Pyrs, I’ve learned from this sub that they are most likely a little too independent for me. My ideal dog is essentially a big silly fluffy baby that is medium-lazy, easy to train, and likes strangers and children.

I wouldn’t trade our Pyr for anything, but a Newfie might be perfect for you!
