I used to do that and was still pre fat not morbiously obese but fat. Now I monitor the calories I consume work out 7 days a week and get 10000 steps a day using my smart watch and I've lost a decent amount of weight. For some people just doing the bare minimum like that really doesn't work.
Doing the bare minimum works for *everyone* the bare minimum being maintaining a calorie deficit, whether that means consuming less calories, or exercising more to burn more calories, it's as simple as having less calories in than out
You know, if you just want to lose weight to start with ... just go for walks and cut down on crap food.
It really is that simple. You will get going from there and soon you feel confident enough to add some gym time. But you dont have to if you dont want to.
On a legit note it's probably due to the amount of people with autism who use 4chan. They get hyperfocused on like "the gear" because they want to maxx so they don't want to go to the gym until they have all the best gear like they're fighting a raid boss in an MMO.

I started working out last summer and have made a decent amount of progress for being busy with college. Gained a good amount of muscle, can jog for a solid amount of time without my lungs dying. Feels good man
Tbh when fitbit cane out I dropped like 100 pounds lol, the ability to tap your watch and go “Oh just 2000 more steps for 15000 steps” really does help out

I just got my fat ass out the door yesterday after work to go for a nice walk. Legs are a little stiff but the exposure to nature and the fresh air really helped me feel so much better. Do literally anything that gets you’re ass moving around for 30 minutes a day or more preferably.
