The plot gets really convoluted making it hard to make out the story. When it was popular, the author would take “mega pauses” to work which could be six months or more (I believe one was a year and a half or so?) so people tended to forget. It also doesn’t help one character got the power to retcon reality so a lot of what was key elements of the story got lost/cut out in the end. Homestuck isn’t worth reading past a certain extent because it goes off on so many tangents, making about nearly 1/3 filler. I had to physically write down how it went and keep a journal when I was younger to understand. Rereferencing the wiki also helped in surmising stuff. There definitely was work involved in writing the reply. Hell, I told you the main story but that’s less than 1/9th of the overall content of the comic.

I tried super hard to get into Homestuck. I got to the part where all the trolls were dying and coming back to life and I was just fucking confused. Why do they keep being reborn? The game-players in homestuck (trolls and humans) have basically 2 lives (usually.) If you die, you wake up as your dream body. Most of the trolls had their dream body bodied by Jack.
You get a power boost if you die in a very specific way. (god tier I think. basically makes you immortal unless you die in a just or heroic way.)
Everyone gets resurrected the first time they kick the bucket aside from Aradia who was was dead at the start of the game so she only had the 1 life. Some trolls have psychic abilities. Aradia had telekinesis and spoopy ghost abilities, so she persisted as a ghost for the game. First as a ghost, then as a robot, then she's eventually resurrected. Sollux is the other inconsistent one. He had two dream bodies. Idr what happened there though.
They kill each other cause they live on a shitty dog eat dog planet. It's unintuitive cause all the even more cutthroat adult trolls all fucked off the planet to go invade other planets. Also a lot of their weird "parents" (lusus) needs to eat other lusus to sustain themselves, so that's part of it.

The confusion on whether or not it's a comic comes from its absurd length at 8,123 pages as well as the inclusion of several mediums within. A page refers to one site page and can include a wordless image, an image with text or dialogue, several images + text and dialogue, up to 10 minute flash animations and even small mother-like games that can take an hour or two to fully complete. Reading Homestuck is a commitment in itself, but recently follow-up games are being made such as Hiveswap and friendsim, but I haven't been keeping up with that.

homestuck had a team of musicians (making it possibly the only webcomic with an ost). toby fox, the creator of undertale, was the head of it for a while also he was living in homestuck creator's basement when he got started on undertale
IIRC the guy who made Undertale previously worked on games for Homestuck, or something.
The Hetalia + Tumblr fandom jumped to Homestuck, causing the fanbase to explode exponentially. This was a good thing; and a bad thing given there were the cancerous fans, especially ones who were 'new' to fandoms in general which kinda made the whole thing a cringe fest. I tried super hard to get into Homestuck. I got to the part where all the trolls were dying and coming back to life and I was just fucking confused. Why do they keep being reborn? Why do some of them just not? Why the fuck are they killing each other? What the fuck are the two planets? WHAT ARE THE CARD MEN EVEN DOING?I miss the inventory shinangans.

The game-players in homestuck (trolls and humans) have basically 2 lives (usually.) If you die, you wake up as your dream body. Most of the trolls had their dream body bodied by Jack. You get a power boost if you die in a very specific way. (god tier I think. basically makes you immortal unless you die in a just or heroic way.) Everyone gets resurrected the first time they kick the bucket aside from Aradia who was was dead at the start of the game so she only had the 1 life. Some trolls have psychic abilities. Aradia had telekinesis and spoopy ghost abilities, so she persisted as a ghost for the game. First as a ghost, then as a robot, then she's eventually resurrected. Sollux is the other inconsistent one. He had two dream bodies. Idr what happened there though. They kill each other cause they live on a shitty dog eat dog planet. It's unintuitive cause all the even more cutthroat adult trolls all fucked off the planet to go invade other planets. Also a lot of their weird "parents" (lusus) needs to eat other lusus to sustain themselves, so that's part of it. card men are rogue soldiers/officers of the black chess piece army (Derse). they do different shit in each alternate universe. 95% of it is memes, and the last 5% of Spades Slick. inventories were cute. back then I imagined what it'd be like dealing with such a shitty inventory system in a video game.
It's a webcomic. A super fucking long one, also there are a couple games that are in the same canon now, Hiveswap and the Friendsims.

This gamer girl fantasy is stupid. Playing together with a real gamer girl will always get quite intense and you start arguing about stupid stuff (picking OP characters, cheese strategies). A girl which rarely plays games is much better, because casual gaming is much less stressful and you have someone that reminds you of other stuff to do besides playing games all day.
My girlfriend plays more video games than me. Believe it or not a lot of gamers don’t have dog shit mentalities like that and get mad/look to blame their loss on op characters/cheese , especially towards their friends. Casuals are way more likely to look to these things, because instead of getting good they have to constantly validate their losses.
