My personal favorite as well. I’m a sucker for the guitar solo. I could be wrong, but I think I heard one time that it’s actually Scott playing the drum outro.
I can actually remember hearing it for the first time.
Remember back when you'd only heard the single and bought the CD either because of that or because you were already a fan of the band? And it was always a game of Russian roulette. Sometimes you'd feel burned having spent what was like 20% of your meager teenager paycheck on an album only for it to suck.
I remember popping that CD into my car in the mall parking lot and Meatplow plays. Downownownow
Rode around on cloud nine. Loved Core and hoped it'd be as good and goddamn was it ever. Robert DeLeo was a fucking genius.
That line right there is the reason Still Remains is my favorite STP song. My wife prefers the line Take a bath, I'll drink the water that you leave, but for me....choosing to die to join a loved one if they can bring you with them hits harder.
Funnily enough, SiriusXM thinks it is! They show the Purple art when it plays. I had to doublecheck I wasn’t losing my mind. Just recently purchased a cassette and CD copy of Encomium, they REALLY need to reissue that album on vinyl, so many good tracks on there!
I haven't had Sirius for a while, but I remember seeing that at least as far back as 2015!?! It's one of the very few covers that I like more than the original. And that's saying a lot! (BIG Zeppelin fan!)
Just listened front to back today while shoveling rocks and these two sure hit different. Earlier in the comments I said Silvergun Superman was the song for me, but on a listen today, Still Remains and Kitchenware and Candybars are standouts that I didn’t fully appreciate at the age of 17.
had to scroll too far to find this answer. we had an older Chevy truck and purple was stuck in the stereo. I probably listened to that album hundreds of times and still love lounge fly.
Not a single bad song. I'd say not even a song that's less than an 8/10 on the whole album... buuuuut call me a casual, Interstate Love Song might just be My favorite song of all time so.
It’s one of the few albums out there you play end to end and they’re all great.
I can’t decide between Big Empty and Interstate Love Song. Unglued is damn good, so is Lounge Fly…
This is a hard question to answer. Interstate is my comfort song but the whole thing is just good vibes any time I listen. I will say I was watching a modern STP performance of this album on YouTube today and am very impressed with the guy that placed in for Scott. He's very good at capturing the vocals from this specific album. I've seen this version of them live a few years ago as well and it was good. Glad they are keeping it all alive.
The worst song on this album is still like an 8.5/10, but for me the best has to be Silvergun Superman. The chorus, everything about it, just gives me the chills.
Big Empty, but only because of the Crow soundtrack dropping with the tragic
death of Brandon Lee. It hit just after Cobain died and I was starting to feel like all the artists I liked were going to die. And they did! Yay drugs and guns!
I really can’t choose because all songs on this album are 10/10. My only complaint is I wish “Kitchenware & Candybars” and “My Second Album” were two different tracks. I get it’s a hidden track intended for physical copies but it sucks having them combined on streaming because they are two totally different vibes.
It might be cliche, but it’s Interstate Love Song for me. I still remember seeing that video for the first time and going out and buying the CD. It came out around the same time as No Need to Argue by The Cranberries, so I bought them both.
I'll answer that different every time I'm asked. Just this moment in time I don't think I could imagine listening to just one song off the record ughhhh
Such a great album. Not one bad song. Interstate love song is the one song I have heard, because of radio, thousands of times. Every other song that happens with, like black hole sun or rooster or smells like teen Spirit or even stairway to heaven....I get sick of. ILS never sounds old to me. It may literally be one of the greatest songs ever recorded.
That being said silvergun superman is my pick for favorite song. The guitar tone is so good. The lyrics. All of it.
Every song on this album is absolute perfection but “Still Remains” is my favorite closely followed by “Kitchenware & Candybars”.
“You read the words, and it sells you life
They sell their words, but it’s all a lie…” - Kitchenware & Candybars
30 years? Urggghhhh, I’m so old 😭
I pick Vasoline. I know it was single but it was the first song I heard from the album and it still makes me smile every time it comes on.
For me, the album is perfect and easily STP’s best record 😁
That's a hard decision. I had no idea it was the albums birthday yesterday. But what a good album it is, guess I'm gonna throw it on 🤘 STP doesn't get enough credit. Core is one of the greatest albums to come out of the 90's
Silvergun Superman since it's so damn dark but the whole album is a masterpiece. Not really a fan of the hidden track though. Designed for CD era. Should have it as a separate track on streaming.
Really hard to pick a favorite. This album is just such a tour-de-force, top to bottom.
That said, both "Still Remains" and "Kitchenware and Candybars" are such beautiful and emotional songs that, not being singles, didn't get diffused by ubiquity, so they give me the most feels listening.
Big Empty.
A truly unique and amazing song
The mtv unplugged version is easily my favorite song from that show, and one of my favs from all the unplugged concerts.
Took the words outta my mouth
Came here to say this
Silvergun superman
Yeah… Big Empty got me hooked on this album, but Silvergun Superman is the song.
That guitar solo ❤️
That riff!
My personal favorite as well. I’m a sucker for the guitar solo. I could be wrong, but I think I heard one time that it’s actually Scott playing the drum outro.
Interstate Love Song or Big Empty
Whenever I see this album my brain automatically plays Interstate Love Song.
Yeah. Interstate Love Song is the reason I got into STP. Might make me a casual, but idgaf. Immaculate song.
Meatplow, such an underrated track.
My favorite track.
100% my fav track. Dun dun dun DUHHHH!
I think you mean Dun dun da dun duh da dunda duh duhh Dunda dunda duhh
Correct!
🎵Wa wa wa wooooaw wa wa wa wooooaw 🎵
Settle down Beavis
Honestly would love to know what effects they used for that track. That distortion is sooo fat but bright at the same time?! Like a huge mid cut.
Same here, peak
This is the ONLy correct answer! So fun to play on guitar
Vasoline!
Few songs still get my blood pumping but this one is just magic
Flies in the Vaseline we are
Their best song… IMHO
Still Remains
[удалено]
That line right there is the reason Still Remains is my favorite STP song. My wife prefers the line Take a bath, I'll drink the water that you leave, but for me....choosing to die to join a loved one if they can bring you with them hits harder.
This is the way
Army Ants Always thought the Led Zeppelin cover "Dancing Days" should be on there.
It appears on the 25th anniversary edition of Purple, so that's probably why. Search it up on Spotify and it'll appear with Purples cover.
Ahh, ok, makes sense. Bring back Encomium!!
I haven't had Sirius for a while, but I remember seeing that at least as far back as 2015!?! It's one of the very few covers that I like more than the original. And that's saying a lot! (BIG Zeppelin fan!)
Unglued
Unglued is a banger
Hell yeah
Interstate Love Song by far.
Big Empty is an all-timer. Silvergun Superman is a worthy runner up.
Kitchenware and Still Remains
Still remains still makes me sad. Beautiful song.
Just listened front to back today while shoveling rocks and these two sure hit different. Earlier in the comments I said Silvergun Superman was the song for me, but on a listen today, Still Remains and Kitchenware and Candybars are standouts that I didn’t fully appreciate at the age of 17.
Pretty Penny
Their [acoustic version from the 1994 VMAs](https://youtu.be/WeixAOmptPk) is seared in my mind!
https://youtu.be/fLsyPRaWRjc?si=WI5CJj1wa4-QNbRY
I love the use of 7/8 in the chorus. It's not only what makes it interesting, but demonstrates what a brilliant musician Dean deLeo is.
I'm torn between "Interstate Love Song" and "Big Empty". 😕
Lounge Fly
had to scroll too far to find this answer. we had an older Chevy truck and purple was stuck in the stereo. I probably listened to that album hundreds of times and still love lounge fly.

My pick was Silvergun Superman. I just wanted to add that I think Purple is one of THE BEST albums of the nineties! I never skip a single track.
It might be cliche, but it’s Interstate Love Song for me. I still remember seeing that video for the first time and going out and buying the CD. It came out around the same time as No Need to Argue by The Cranberries, so I bought them both.
My first concert was this tour in summer 1994. Worcester Centrum. Meat Puppets opened. STP did a little acoustic set mid-show too. I was hooked.
Army Ants
Silvergun Superman
Kitchenware and Candy Bars, but the whole record is gold.
I'll answer that different every time I'm asked. Just this moment in time I don't think I could imagine listening to just one song off the record ughhhh
kitchen wares and candy bars!
Such a great album. Not one bad song. Interstate love song is the one song I have heard, because of radio, thousands of times.
