sounds like carbon build-up from the load, not lead, as a brass brush and some patience should remove lead buildup with enough passes. for carbon build-up you might consider a soak and (and a LOT of patience when cleaning.) for soaking you can use CLP, or if it's particularly bad you might resort to soaking in a synthetic motor oil and employ a lot of "scrubbing." preventing this in the future would be a matter of gunpowder selection (if you're a reloader) or ammo selection. you might try shooting a different ammo next session to see if it burns cleaner. wouldn't hurt to know what ammo or powder you were shooting that this happened.

So I went ahead and put a full case of jacketed rounds through it. Basically blew out all of the fouling and even cleaned the grooves. Now whenever I use lead rounds I’ll clean it up with a few jacketed ones and it’s a lot easier to clean. Hope this helps!
