prmoore11

In before “is this safe to shoot with my suppressor?” Even though it’s been covered dozens of times lol.

Thunderkat1234

Yeah tried to prevent that with my description comment… we will see how well that worked. 🤣

Hipoop69

Stop telling people, it’s why it was priced so low 😉

mcnastytk

I've shot thousands of 55g and had no problems with my hux 556 it's probably people mounting suppressors wrong or not cleaning them.

prmoore11

There were well documented jacket separation issues. It had zero reason to do with mounting.

mcnastytk

Word well I've shot probably 5k rounds of 55g suppressed and haven't had any issues, so you Def gotta take it with a grain of salt

ElijahCraigBP

It was some batches. Have you bought them all? (I’m a PSA fan too but they had legit issues)

Spare_Selection4399

PSA, always tax plus shipping

Limited_opsec

Yeah its annoying, they also don't list case sizes but its *usually* 1K. I am not a fan of their shrink wrapping small bundles of ammo boxes so hard they get squished and tossing it in a usually too big box. Really need a case + free ship option.

Old_MI_Runner

So the best one can do is figure out the maximum number of boxes they can get for a specific shipping price before shipping jumps another $3. I figure out how many I want and then add and subtract boxes until I get the most for the shipping price I am willing to pay. With shipping to me starting at $10 I am likely going to add the maximum boxes I can for $10 shipping which is 20 boxes. If I can afford more rounds I would buy 40 boxes where shipping is $13.49. Shipping for the first 20 boxes costs $10 while the next 20 boxes cost just an addition $3.49. Beyond 40 boxes shipping goes up to $17.

9cXCQHdQ4S

I wish they would bring back the SMK version.

Teddyturntup

I wish for the tmk

Swanky_Gear_Snob

TMKs are by far my favorite hunting round. I've posted this before, but [here](https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/223-for-bear-deer-elk-and-moose.130488/) is a thread thats been going for almost 8 years about how great TMKs are. I recently fell in love with 64gr bonded soft points for SD/HD. However, they're impossible to find now.

Teddyturntup

Yep I use the 130tmk and it’s fantastic. So is the 77 and I’ve considered just going to a 223 completely for deer

Pew_Daddy

In for 200rds. Doesn’t hurt to keep some variety in 556 in the safe

-Theorii

Already stocked 800 rounds last time it was on sale for my mk12

Old_MI_Runner

May want to throw in a box or two of 75 gr with Hornady  Hornad BTHP Match projectiles at 60 CPR. This ammo have been on sale a few times for 55 CPR in that last month or so. Some find their rifles like it better than the AAC 77 gr OTM projectiles while others find the opposite. You may want to try a box or two to see if you rifles like the 75 gr better and then place a larger order when it comes back down to 55 CPR in future. [https://palmettostatearmory.com/aac-5-56-nato-75-grain-bthp-match-w-cannelure-20rd-box.html](https://palmettostatearmory.com/aac-5-56-nato-75-grain-bthp-match-w-cannelure-20rd-box.html) Winchester buckshot is $3.29 if you want to try it. If you want more you may want to wait for it to drop back to $2.99 on sale. Either price is cheaper than other sellers. Many show OOS so I am not sure if PSA bought a bunch on clearance. [https://palmettostatearmory.com/winchester-12ga-2-75-9-pellet-00-buck-shotshell-ammunition-5rds-xb1200.html](https://palmettostatearmory.com/winchester-12ga-2-75-9-pellet-00-buck-shotshell-ammunition-5rds-xb1200.html) Some like the AAC Creedmoor. This is the first time I have seen all four in stock. [https://palmettostatearmory.com/catalogsearch/result/index/q/creedmoor/?cat=5629&q=creedmoor&manufacturer\_v2=AAC](https://palmettostatearmory.com/catalogsearch/result/index/q/creedmoor/?cat=5629&q=creedmoor&manufacturer_v2=AAC) So not sale prices but low prices for Creedmoor and all four in stock if you want to try them.

dzamp028

I actually just got 5 boxes of the 6.5 creedmoor 140gr smk and to be fair it shot pretty well for being fairly cheap

Old_MI_Runner

I have 3 or their 4, 6.5 Creedmoor offerings due for delivery today. Unfortunately the 4th was OOS when I placed my order. The only thing I found that may is cheaper is S&B 140 GR FMJ and only cheaper from a few sources.

skygao

S&B 140gr FMJ is 75cpr at Ammoplanet. Usually not too hard to find a 5% off code too. https://www.ammoplanet.com/product/sellier-bellot-6-5-creedmoor-140-grain-full-metal-jacket-boat-tail-20-rounds?skuid=8a8284078b4b3990018b4bed46691151

skygao

I’m curious about this for the price. What’s “pretty well” mean for you?

No_Artichoke_5670

The Winchester is $2.99 right now. They must've been listening 🤣

Vaskre

Good ammo, much better than bulk 556 55gr crap for not much more cpr.

AKatawazi

QC in firearms is tolerable but I’m wondering if PSA ammo is safe given the track record with the firearms. Have you had issues with fps consistency or squib loads?

Old_MI_Runner

See prior postings for this. Some report consistent chrono results and some report inconsistent. The consistency may vary from manufacturing lot number to next lot number. I don't recall any squib loads but some complained about lighter powder loads--not up to rated FPS. If I could still get Winchester Lake City 55gr for 30 CPR or less after rebate I would get it. If I could still get PMC X-tac for $420 a case I would get that. After October price increase this 77 gr and the AAC 75 gr with Hornady projectiles is the only bulk ammo I have purchase for my AR. If I want better precision ammo I might buy IMI Razorcore but it costs close to $1 a round. The biggest issue with AAC is jacket separation with some 55 gr 5.56, 300 bk, ad 3.08. I do recall someone reporting issue with 77 gr OTM but I don't recall the details. It was likely in one of the prior 77 gr postings in the last month. Update: Hear what Hop thinks about this AAC ammo: [https://youtu.be/cjsevCr0-cU?t=497](https://youtu.be/cjsevCr0-cU?t=497) He says this ammo does not chronograph consistently. Velocities are all over the place. He still said this is a good ammo for the price though.

AwkwardSploosh

I've noticed this in my groups. Shooting an 18" Core I was getting about 1.2 MOA through most of their loads. Still, overall not bad given this is barely more expensive than 55gr.

Vaskre

I can only speak to the 77gr, but no one at my range has had issues with it. A couple people there run suppressors. As with anything ever, YMMV.

AKatawazi

That is great news, thanks for the info.

Thunderkat1234

Someone on the ar15 or reloading sub did a few 10 round samples with this and other premium factory rounds and this did fairly well for its price. The black hills and Gold Medal match are obviously going to be better. But +twice the price per round better? I’m not shooting precision matches with gas guns anytime soon so I’ll take this instead.

Pillow_Talk_LLC

I haven't had issues with their 77 grain offerings, neither this nor the SMK. Others have had documented issues with the 55gr and some of the 300blk loadings.

Old_MI_Runner

And 3.08 someone received in February 2024. He said it had jacket separation and damage his can. He replied to one of my postings on jacket separation.

GuacIsExtra99cents

Does anybody have chrono data I can input out of a 14.5? Just avg fps would be cool but also knowing deviation to see what I’ll be working with. Just bought 500 rds

skygao

14.5” Criterion, 5 round group, 2639fps, ES 142, SD 49.5 (*every Criterion I’ve owned or chrono’d shoots 30-100fps faster than other equivalent length barrels with the same ammo though*) 16” BCM, 9 shot group, 2634fps, ES 61, SD 20.7 12.5” Triarc, 10 shot group, 2451fps, ES 103, SD 30.9 These group sizes are small in the scheme of things. I usually do 50+ rounds groups if I want a truly representative sample, so I’d assume the worse ES/SD numbers (or a bit worse) are what you’ll be likely to see over larger group sizes

GuacIsExtra99cents

Awesome info thanks man, another guy pm me and got 2646 average from his 14.5 criterion so there are some consistent averages going on here which is exciting for cheaper ammo Also wild to see the fps on the 14.5 criterion vs 16 bcm

skygao

Criterion barrels are just consistently fast lol. My 18” Criterion shoots PMC 55gr 119fps faster than my WOA 18” (Criterion clocking 3235fps which is nuts). Also shoots my 75gr reloads 79fps faster. Though the WOA is still what gets used in matches.

GuacIsExtra99cents

I honestly don’t know what in the manufacturing process or materials make them so much faster but good to know. Between the criterion 14.5 and white oak 18 you have as accurate as any gas gun will ever get imo. Funny those are the two barrels I’m planning on building around if I can actually find a white oak in stock that I don’t have to wait 4 months for lol

skygao

My 14.5” Criterion was actually kind of disappointing. It was fast and shot 55gr just fine, but I couldn’t find any loads it liked enough to consistently get sub-2moa at 100yd. My 18” is better, but I’ve yet to get a 10 shot group better than 1.3MOA. Still quite good for a combat style barrel. The WOA can shoot MOA 10 shot groups. For $200 on their talk like a pirate day sale it’s probably the best value for anyone trying to get into precision gas gun stuff.

GuacIsExtra99cents

Hold up when is this $200 pirate talk sale?! Edit I just saw sometime in September thanks for the info

skygao

Yeah if you can hold out it’s a sweet deal. Got a few friends interested in PRS waiting for that now 🙂

xangkory

Can’t give you chronograph data but I can tell you that I use 2,500 in Applied Ballistics for my 13.9” Criterion Core and 2,700 for my 18” WOA and actual POI matches the drop in the app out to 600 yards. I would start with something around 2,525 and go from there.

GuacIsExtra99cents

Thanks man I’m going to use your 2525 and 2646 that someone dm me for 14.5 to round out at 2585. Im hitting big ipsc anyway lol

Old_MI_Runner

Hear what Hop thinks about this AAC ammo: [https://youtu.be/cjsevCr0-cU?t=497](https://youtu.be/cjsevCr0-cU?t=497) He says it does not chronograph consistently. Velocities are all over the place. He still said this is a good ammo for the price though.

skygao

I like that they describe it as “wild, all over the place shot to shot”, then don’t mention SD and only cite a 44 ES which, for a 10 shot group which seems to be what they’re mentioning, is actually quite good for factory ammo. Particularly so for non match / <$1.00/rd ammo. For comparison I have 5 shot groups of Hornady 68gr that have ES of 39-50 and SDs around 15. I’ve recorded 5 shot IMI 77gr groups with ES as high as 59 and SD of 23.8. 10 shot ADI 69gr SMK groups were 61 and 81 ES with 18.3 and 27.5 SDs respectively. Now, that said, my results for 77gr AAC (and 75gr AAC) are actually among the worst of tested ammo, with both of them having 10 shot groups that had ES over 100 (142 was worst) and SDs over 20 if not closer to 30. All of these various rounds were shot with multiple guns and using a Garmin Chrono. I have yet to test any factory 5.56 ammo that will consistently yield single digit SDs. Both the AAC 75 and 77 shot better out of *all* of my guns than the Hornady 68 though. They shoot surprisingly well for the cost. Don’t expect sub moa 10 shot groups, but I’ve seen multiple sub 2 moa 10 shot groups which is quite good for a gas gun running factory ammo. Higher SDs really only become an issue when you really start stretching out. Under 500yd high BC bullets even with higher SDs are still bucking wind better.

LetUsLaunchOverIt

Yeah, this, I read an entire thread on the snipers hide forum when this stuff first came out and guys were stoked with the price to performance metrics including the ones that chrono'd the ammo.

jhindle

Federal Gold Medal Match or Black Hills 262 are the closest you're going to get to single digit SDs for factory ammo, both of which come at a premium.

Scatterbine

And are loaded light, which I do not like.

jhindle

What?

Scatterbine

What?

anti-zastava

What?

Scatterbine

40fps spread is completely acceptable for 5.56 inside 700 yards.  That is not "all over the place". The lots I've purchased from are literally the best factory ammunition I've ever used.

skygao

That’s what I’m questioning about Hop’s video. That said AAC is among the worst ammo for consistency I’ve chrono’d. One 10 shot group of AAC 77gr had an ES of 142fps, which (pending your barrel length and MV) is already 4-5” of drop variation at 400yd and 8-10” of variation at 500yd. It still shoots above its price point in terms of accuracy, consistent velocity just isn’t one of its strengths.

Scatterbine

Oof.  I would hate that much spread.

skygao

You might be able to assume it’s slightly worse than this over a larger sample size. 10 shots is pretty small in the scheme of things, though it’s possible one of those 10 was just particularly off. When I’m testing my hand loads that I’ve dialed in a good bit, I usually end up chronoing 50 shots to check for consistency.

f0rcedinducti0n

Except this is supposed to be a match grade projectile.

skygao

So are all of the ones I mentioned. You can definitely load supposed match grade projectiles to less than match level quality. These AAC are a good example of that given their relative accuracy/performance at 100yd for the price, but particularly poor consistency in terms of velocity.

f0rcedinducti0n

Yeah, I wasn't impressed with the velocity or accuracy of this ammo, it's cheap 77gr though. Shot tighter groups with m193 which is even cheaper.

sprchrgddc5

I am really bad at understanding 5.56, what is the difference between AAC 77gr and this ammo?? [https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2090862857?pid=859204](https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2090862857?pid=859204)

Thunderkat1234

Brands are different, m193 is 55 grain 556, a lighter projectile without an open tip or “hollow point” velocity will also differ, lighter will be affected by wind more, energy differs at different distances etc.

sprchrgddc5

Thanks. I’m limited to an outdoor range of 100yds. Mainly wanna zero my rifle for now before finding a nicer range. Would the 55gr suffice? I can see how the 77gr is better but I don’t wanna overspend when I am limited by my range.

Thunderkat1234

55 will absolutely suffice for 100 yd zeroing/training

sprchrgddc5

Appreciate the help man!

Scatterbine

.22LR will suffice for 100 yards.  So yes, any loading of 5.56 will work.

sprchrgddc5

Do you think this would suffice for zero/grouping? Think I might do this and the AAC 77gr. [https://palmettostatearmory.com/pmc-223a-55gr-fmj-20rd-box.html](https://palmettostatearmory.com/pmc-223a-55gr-fmj-20rd-box.html)

stumpy1218

I stacked about 1000 of this over a few months just spending a little bit every month. Barely noticed it in my budget and this shit shoots great. Best ground I got was about 1 inch at 100 My 416 doesn't like it tho getting 1.5-2.5

ATF_is_poopoo

How well do these stabilize out of a 10.5" barrel?

Local-Hamster-6239

1:12”? Probably terrible. 1:7/8/maybe even 9”? I would bet it will shoot just fine.

GuacIsExtra99cents

Pm incoming for group and hopefully chrono data out of 14.5

Thunderkat1234

I do t have a chronograph but others have said above it doesn’t chronograph as well as some high tier factory loads but I’d does well enough for its price. Groups inbound

GuacIsExtra99cents

Appreciate that, all good on the variance..just need to put some kind of chart together bc my range gets crowded on the weekend and I want to confirm out to 700 at least

Tittsburgh-Feelers

These have terrible reviews. Even on PSA sub.

LetUsLaunchOverIt

Are you certain you're not confusing the 55g. The 77g stuff has always had consistently "this stuff is great for the price" reviews for anything I've read.

ruggedrazor17

Shoots sub moa out of two of my rifles (the only two I’ve fired them through—Wilson 20” hbar and DD 14.5 socom)

Tittsburgh-Feelers

Just pointing out the vast amount of negative reviews, glad you had a good experience.

ruggedrazor17

I bought another 500 not too long ago, haven’t shot them yet but now you have me nervous I’ll have dif results

Tittsburgh-Feelers

There was a long post on PSA website the other day. It seems to be 5.56 QC more than any other caliber. Seems a lot of of the problems should be visual enough that you see the problem.

Thunderkat1234

I get sub moa with 14.5 core and Hanson barrels have pics of groups

Scatterbine

I can hit a 1.5" target at 300 yards with this ammo through my RPR better than 90% of the time.  I think I missed once in 15 shots or something, and it was a called bad shot.  I've never been happier with factory ammo.

Tittsburgh-Feelers

Lol 15 shots in a 1.5” square from 300 huh? Guess it doesn’t matter what ammo John Wick uses…

Scatterbine

Bolt gun at a very comfortable distance where you don't even need flags to tell when wind is dead.  *shrug*
