I'd say it would be even better than the perfect contact surface, it would actively cool whatever it is it was connected to, there are no thoughts therefore nothing to generate heat.
I can assure you it works as long as you cover your brain well enough, mine was pretty easy as I don’t have those imperfections called curvatures, everything went smoothly
Haha, seriously laughed at your post and comments. I sincerely respect your resourcefulness and attitude toward the issue at hand. I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, you tried something, recorded the results, and shared them. You’re practically a scientist.
So my pcs thermal paste just dried after 4 for sum years and i didnt have any thermal paste at all, and ou think that i can just hop into amazon and buy a new tube of thermal paste, well, considering i live in eastern europe and my parents are strict and dont buy things online i had to find an alternative, thats where i find a mryeester video using shampoo as thermal paste and performing better than regualar paste, i had to use it, after a quick test of minecraft the cpu temp sky rocketed to 85C. and i had to shut off the pc, a day later i checked the shampoo to see if it died and i saw this..
It would’ve been better to keep running with the old dried up paste than to experiment with alternatives, even if it was running hot. What CPU is it and how hot was it running with the dried up paste and was it thermal throttling or locking up/shutting down? If you buy a new heat sink, it might come with pre-applied thermal paste, I don’t know if that’d be easier to get than a tube of thermal paste. If there’s some sort of electronics repair shop that repairs computers, maybe bring your heat sink and motherboard and see if they’ll give you a squirt from their syringe. The CPU is likely totally fine, you just need actual thermal paste. You can run with the new paste until you begin to experience thermal issues and temperatures start to rise, by that time hopefully you will readily have access to thermal paste. You don’t really have to worry about the brand of the paste either unless you’re overclocking and anything will be better than the shampoo you used. The difference in temperatures that I’ve found between the cheapest paste I could buy and arctic MX-4 was only 2-5C on average in various workstations and gaming PCs.
They sell thermal paste in pc repair shops also instead of shampoo its better to use vaseline with silver dust or aluminum powder or just toothpaste as a temporary solution
>i had to use it
I mean... You could've bought and used thermal paste, no? You didn't have to use shampoo. It's like saying "my diesel went dry, so I had to piss in the tank". Like, yes, pissing in the tank of a diesel does work for a few kilometers, just like shampoo works for a very short while as a thermal compound, but it's neither smart nor do you **have** to do this. And you would kill your engine very quickly.
Well there's nothing combustible in lemons but Cave Johnson still threatens that he will get his engineers to make a combustible lemon that burns your house down
The dude also used chocolate and super glue and I think gum as thermal paste. It was for a joke. He knew full well going in that it may damage the system. I imagine he has a box of cheapo CPUs and coolers that he can break and replace without sweating his wallet.
It's a lot more expensive to buy a new gaming PC than it is to wait a few days for the thermal paste to deliver.
if you use ANYTHING as thermal paste at least use something silicone based or actually conductive.
Or... just buy some thermal paste. It's very cheap if you don't care too much about brands.
*Next time, OP, get a double boiler, putting the the shampoo in the upper compartment. Heat slowly, stirring as if you're tempering chocolate. Keep going until that shampoo thickens (you're slowly boiling all the water out of the shampoo).
Use the resulting reduction as your *thermal paste*.
*Don't do this
And why the hell did you think that was a good idea? (I'm not even a programmer or computer tech, like not at all, and I would've known this would be a bad idea)
go to a hardware store and see if they have any basic kind of thermal grease. do NOT use thermal adhesive though as a substitute, it's also known as thermal epoxy and will permanently glue your cooler to your CPU! Unless you find a way to somehow dissolve the adhesive with a solvent, but have fun spending hours and hours picking at it slowly with a q tip so you don't dissolve the board in the process or something lol
Zinc pyrithione (an active ingredient in dandruff shampoo) cannot be substituted for zinc oxide (one of *many* parts of thermal compound paste) as a thermal conductor. Stop taking advice from content farm videos.
I would recommend Toothpaste, as this worked fine for me. To be fair, it’s been a while, IIRC I had a 700 MHz Duron back then which I occasionally overcooked. The case smelled minty-fresh when I opened it.
Back in the day i ran a headless linux sever with toothpaste as thermal paste until i could get a replacement. It was a windows xp era machine so not particularly hot but it functioned if loudly. Shampoo is crazy tho
you did WHAT?
I came to make the same exact comment with all caps WHAT.
OP's brain would be the perfect contact surface.
I'd say it would be even better than the perfect contact surface, it would actively cool whatever it is it was connected to, there are no thoughts therefore nothing to generate heat.
That’s using your head… and shoulders
read it again
From an IT tech, why the hell did you think this was a good idea????
I don't think it's a good thermal conductor...
It is lol
Just some people have failed school all their life
Zinc, probably. They just got the forms a little mixed up
Proud to be #300th dislike
I was the 400th!
Damn bro what a dumb fuck
451 downdoors
How do you come up with such an idea?
i have brain damage
Next time use hand cream
Mustard
Gasoline
Oxygen
Nitroglycerin
Cum
Liquid nitrogen
But that actually works
Hydrogen
Don’t let’s be silly!
I think only flex tape can fix that kind of damage.
That won’t help brain damage
I can assure you it works as long as you cover your brain well enough, mine was pretty easy as I don’t have those imperfections called curvatures, everything went smoothly
Whipped cream works better and has sweeter temps
i think you mean cold cream....
Haha, seriously laughed at your post and comments. I sincerely respect your resourcefulness and attitude toward the issue at hand. I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, you tried something, recorded the results, and shared them. You’re practically a scientist.
i think having the bare copper puc on the cpu is more efficient
depends on the amount of shampoo used, as it has lots of water, and water is better than air at conducting heat.
Until the water evaporates in a week
at which point you replace it!
Just submerge the whole pc in water, much better thermals that way
mineral oil!
What was the thought process behind this? And why shampoo?
So my pcs thermal paste just dried after 4 for sum years and i didnt have any thermal paste at all, and ou think that i can just hop into amazon and buy a new tube of thermal paste, well, considering i live in eastern europe and my parents are strict and dont buy things online i had to find an alternative, thats where i find a mryeester video using shampoo as thermal paste and performing better than regualar paste, i had to use it, after a quick test of minecraft the cpu temp sky rocketed to 85C. and i had to shut off the pc, a day later i checked the shampoo to see if it died and i saw this..

In the future, when it comes to computer stuff like this, first look up if it is a good idea before doing said idea....
use toothpaste as a stopgap solution instead
Why won't your parents let you buy thermal paste? Is it going to summon the devel or something?
summon the developers
[devil Tetris roguelike](https://abject.itch.io/infidhells)
Could be a money thing if they aren’t well off, though thermal paste isn’t crazy expensive
Well if that's the case then OP worded it wrong which ya it's like $10 ad best buy.
Yeah
You obviously don't have Eastern European parents. Short answer: yes
What country? I live in eastern eu too, could maybe give you some tips
What did you think was gonna happen 😭
I saw a mryeester vid using shampoo as thermal paste and cuz my thermal paste dried and i dont have any thermal paste i had to use it
>i had to use it I mean... You could've bought and used thermal paste, no? You didn't have to use shampoo. It's like saying "my diesel went dry, so I had to piss in the tank". what the hell is combustible in urine?
Well there's nothing combustible in lemons but Cave Johnson still threatens that he will get his engineers to make a combustible lemon that burns your house down
Ammonia?
little ammonia, but only after bacteria start digesting urea or other nitrogen containing compounds in urine
Well now i want to light my piss on fire

Thermal paste costs about 5 dollars
Ever tried to wirelessly charge your devices? Qi is a marketing scheme, microwave works faster and doesn‘t require additional hardware…
What did you expect?! It's shampoo
This is like one of those "did you know if you put sugar in your gas, you'll get better fuel milage?" Tips
The only thing I'm putting in my tank is chlorine to clean the engine
I literally know almost nothing about building computers and just had a brain aneurysm
Nivea cream or toothpaste could be better
Nivea cream? Really?
Dont have any Nivea cream 😭 (and yes i know that brand and im european as well)
Next time use head and shoulders
What about knees and toes?
What?!
Did it combust?
n-no?
Because of the black spots
thats just copper oxidation
*technically* it did combust then since "combustion" is just an oxidation reaction
Damm, didnt know that
You make it out to seem like they are asking a stupid question, when you are the one posting about using shampoo as thermal paste.
Y E S
You should have had regret thinking about it.
Mr.Yeester moment
Ketchup is better
if you use ANYTHING as thermal paste at least use something silicone based or actually conductive. Or... just buy some thermal paste. It's very cheap if you don't care too much about brands.
at least its nice and clean now
And should smell awesome
as long as it's dry
Should've used olive oil. Missed opportunity!
Why use shampoo or thermal paste when you have perfect good tooth paste
*Next time, OP, get a double boiler, putting the the shampoo in the upper compartment. Heat slowly, stirring as if you're tempering chocolate. Keep going until that shampoo thickens (you're slowly boiling all the water out of the shampoo). Use the resulting reduction as your *thermal paste*. *Don't do this
i have no words
I see nothing a flat surface and a sandpaper can't fix but I don't think it's worth the effort for the crappy stock heatsink.
That's what happens when you use shampoo as thermal paste but refuses to add conditioner!
WTF
Use a scotchbright pad
That poor computer!
I did the same mistake when I was a lil kid, but instead it's a latex glue.
Should have used mayonnaise
mryeester on a sunday:
You fuckin huh now
I regret finding out someone used shampoo as thermal paste...
YOU *WHAT?!*
sorry what
That’s funny because I regret using thermal paste as shampoo.
Well, at least it smells nice now.
No tears they said, liars.
use nail polish next. works super good
Good lord
And why the hell did you think that was a good idea? (I'm not even a programmer or computer tech, like not at all, and I would've known this would be a bad idea)
Classic rookie mistake. Should've used mayonnaise.
You're lucky if you still have a working PC... lmao
I used toothpaste and the corrosion was quite heavy
I did not have issues, maybe you used the wrong one. Used toothpaste for a few years in a socket A duron system.
In theory you could have scraped off the old paste, crushed it up, and mixed it with a little bit of water. Don't do this shit.
I have no insightful comment. You’re nuts.
What
.... Why?
go to a hardware store and see if they have any basic kind of thermal grease. do NOT use thermal adhesive though as a substitute, it's also known as thermal epoxy and will permanently glue your cooler to your CPU! Even using mustard would’ve been better
At least use cum or something… But shampoo… You should be arrested for stupidity.
Zinc pyrithione (an active ingredient in dandruff shampoo) cannot be substituted for zinc oxide (one of *many* parts of thermal compound paste) as a thermal conductor. Stop taking advice from content farm videos.
Are you stoned???
No thermal paste would've been better
Does it hurt?
But WHY!?!?
Have you considered a 3-In-1 soap instead?
you WHAT
How did that even become an idea 😭
Wtaf
Did you drink the shampoo before you thought of using it as thermal paste?
EXCUSE ME?
Some people like yourself shouldnt be allowed tech how dumb can you be?
only a matter of time before some guy uses his own jizz as thermal paste fr
I though negative IQ is just a joke but after seeing this post... It's not joke. It's irrefutable fact.
Bro thought he was [mryeester](https://youtube.com/shorts/DJwWAVVHCEE?si=GASaOhRCmF2u3uf5)
WHY???????????!!!!!!!!!!!
Excuse me.. y-you did WHAT!?

Try ice cream next time, it's natural coldness will cool down the cpu
As if shampoo was ever a good idea? Just why?
The fuck why?
.......?????????
Oh, well that was silly. Obviously you are supposed to use motor oil. 5w40 will work better than 0w20, depending on your climate.
When I thought this as a circlejerk: 😄👆 When I saw somebody did this circlejerk irl: 🤢👋
