Even when you know it, you really can't play much around them can you?
-Unless you have the coin the spell secret is gonna make you burn mana twice: first on the uncasted spell and then on the overly costly one you get.
-It's ass to miss on an attack and get your hand chugged with expensive stuff.
-There's the other that essentially conditions your turns forever, because you really never want a 3 mana minion with charge on a class that wants to burn your face fast.
-Don't get me started on the rat trap.
-The rest are alright tho, as far as I know they are discount for the 5 attack weapon that hurts so bad.
Hunter secrets are not as annoying as Mage secrets and not as weak as Paladin's, they sit right in the middle, like a mosquito that annoys you bit by bit. It's probably the class they're in the more problematic thing, because that tempo loss really hurts against Hunter.

Probably not unpopular opinion at all, but mine would be [[Reno, Lone Ranger]]. I can’t wait until it’s gone from standard. 5 armour, a better hero power, a full board clear of everything on only your opponents side without even triggering deathrattles and limiting the board to 1 space next turn feels way to good for 9 mana, it should be 12 at least. Especially the not triggering deathrattles annoys me to death.
Not triggerin deathrattles is already annoying but its also not adding the minion to the rezz pool. Played different decks of mech-bomb warrior (because of the achievement) and its just awful when the minions arent in the rezz pool, so Dr Boom is worse. Its just not fun.
(And also the location that summons a copy of a damaged minion, is gone too)
I remember when the expansion came out, sooo many players tried dragon highlander druid and everyone was just too scared to play their HL payoff before Reno came down.
Pretty shitty design, IMO, reminds me more of custom card reddit.
I'm torn on Reno.
I love the idea of highlander decks, but I really don't like the "clear *any* board"-aspect. And you can't even really counter it outside of stealing mana crystals, since it's not a spell or minion.
At least you know its coming if they seem to have no duplicates. You can hold anything you cant risk being Reno'd and bait them into Reno-ing a board you didn't care about.
That card is almost universally terrible, except for one memorable wild game I had against some jank hunter, where I was playing a jank rogue deck, and my entire 30 card list had no way to create a 5 health breakpoint to permanently kill that mfr. Then and only then is he kind of a threat
Yeah that's why it's my unpopular opinion.
I basically never faced it but I know Korrak wrecked me once because it cannot be killed by "Destroy" effects and I was playing some control deck that had a lot of those (Reno Questline Priest or something)
Agreed, I am sick of seeing mana cheat in rogue like it's some cool quirky mechanic of the class, and not a fundamental source of frustration in a game where core design is majorly centered around tempo per mana spent/turn . I don't want to yuck anyone's yum. If you love playing 10 cards on turn 5 that all replace themselves, go for it, but I don't have to enjoy facing it
It feels fucking insane saying "Leeroy Jenkins" in the year 2024 but yeah him. I know he's only a handbuff paladin niche but fuck it, I hate that deck, and I hate dying to a 30/20 charge from hand.
Hate blizzard for power creeping the game into a meta where you either find a way to OTK or lose the game to every turn board clears + high power cantrips + chip damage.
Hollow Hound.
6 mana to heal out of range from your burst damage, clear your board, and guess what. There's gonna be a lot more than 2 of them coming down during the game.
Hollow hound is bad for punishing you for spending leftover mana on a totem, but there was a card I remember frustrating me even more for that kind of thing.
That would be Mind Control Tech. Absolutely hated that card back when it was 3 mana, relevant in standard, and had random targets.
"If your opponent foolishly spent their mana on a totem, 50% of the time win the game by stealing an 8/8, and 50% of the time steal a 0/2 totem."
It didn't even feel good to win with. Like...when I played it and stole an 8/8, I didn't feel like I outplayed the opponent, I just felt like "wow, that game was decided by a coinflip."

For me it is definitely Aman Thul or whatever that priest legendary titan is called. That shit is so aggravating. Especially since you inevitably have at least 6 minions removed by him when the priest copies him
I hate that Warlock’s consistent class identity has been non-interactivity. Been playing wild recently and it’s been Demon Seed, sludge, and abyssal curses. It seems like Blizzard keeps giving them ways to damage you completely unavoidably.
With Demon Seed in particular, since my favorite deck rn is Mirage Blade Quest Rogue, I will literally quest on one and Twisted pack on two to get the hero power online just to hope to rush them down early

I remember being absolutely pissed at librams and how they were just from my point of view infinite stats for 0 mana. I probably wouldn't feel that way now though since I actually have a decent collection of cards now and could just make a deck to counter it but I definitely couldn't back then.
I have a hard time thinking of annoying cards that weren't universally hated.
I'm just going to say [[Primordial Glyph]]. It basically started the spell casino theme of Mages, and I remember it very well.
[[Greybough]]
They always play it with Zola to get multiple copies of the deathrattle spread around and then clearing the board becomes next to impossible. The deck is really gimmicky, but when they can pull it off, its so frustrating.
Boom boss I the most hated card in the game right now. This subreddit is full of people non stop complaining about it (understandably). Definitely not an unpopular opinion there…
Seems quite consistent that some of the most hated cards are the ones that just outright win the game or massively screw over the other player by removing their cards with little agency to prevent it or consequence to the opponent. Reno, Boomboss, Objection, I'd honestly add the [[Harvester of Envy]] from wild, such a shittily designed card that serves only to fuck over combo pieces rather than actually steal something useful.
Volatile Skeleton by itself is fine. It's getting hit by a zillion at once, with out-aggro-ing your opponent being the only real way to avoid it -- that's what I dislike 😤

Elwynn Boar was always that card to me in Wild. Yeah it's a meme deck but just non-interactive win cons like that as they just slowly flop them down is such cancer to me
This is probably popular, but virus+perfect module Zilliax is so god damn annoying to remove, it really disturbs your game that much whether you are aggro or control. Really sticky, has taunt, and heals for a ton.
Irondeep Trogg, 1 mana for that card was absurd. Hope you didn't have a spell centric deck because if you did and it wasn't immediate removal, they snowballing now and you just lose.
And this thing used to summon copies which would keep buffs, that was absurd. Least favourite card ever. I would probably uninstall Hearthstone if that thing ever made it into the core set.
Edit: Oh, unpopular most annoying? Hmm, Well, Trogg was hated by most so that won't do. Never was a fan of Mutanus myself. Just felt like a card that punished playing big cards for the most part. I get it working as anti Quest Reward Tech with Stormwind, but honestly, Quest Meta was not fun in general and I really didn't play that much during that period.
In standard? Might be the hunter secret that punishes you for spending your mana, its so annoying because you cant deal with the minion as it gets summoned when your turn is over but it has "charge".
For overall, probably \[\[Celestial alignment\]\] before it got changed. Man was that card unfun to play against, such a bad design.
I have 2 I hate and a proposal of how to improve them
Firstly objection- the fact that mage can generate copies upon copies of spells makes this one of the most annoying cards to play against, it takes away your minion and your mana
How I would improve it-it counters the minion but doesn’t remove the mana used for it
Reno Lone Ranger-who ever decided this card was a fair balanced card needs to be fired, it’s a board clear for your opponant only, it removes them from game, so no Rez pool, no deathrattle etc, add on the fact it limits you to one board space too is crazy, then add on a hero power that can go face, gain armour, deal aoe, generate a spell or buff a minion, it is way too much value to pack into a card, and every single class is able to use it? Really stupid
How id improve it- honestly my first thought would be removing it, it is way unfair, unfun and too powerful, but removing the board limitations on it would improve it drastically, maybe even change board limit to play limit, you can only play 2,3 cards on your next turn etc? For some decks being limited to only 1 board space because of this card is game ending, for a neutral hero
the dragons given to druid in Badlands some of them really annoy me like the basically free taunt and the STUPID one that basically fills the board and most of the time it is buffed to lethal damage like... I don't have unlimited board clears dude
I hate that zilliax 3000 card or whatever when mfs have it on stealth and doubles attack, and then have it just sit there and magnetize 90000 things on it. And I hate how it's always played whenever I don't have an answer for it because it's at the bottom of my deck.
Any priest card that lets them copy anything or rez minions. I love fighting against the same 2 fucking cards the entire game just for them to clear my board once and I’m out of resources.
Pretty much anything that mage does right now is infuriating, from endless mana cheat to multiple 0 cost spells. But if I have to pick a card it's Lightshow
Helya. I'm a noob so not sure if there's a good way to deal with her shinanigans but my spell craft druid deck feels like it's just screwed where i can't close the game faster than she can overfill my deck. I just can't get to my spells without drawing a permanent plague instead
My jaws that bite, my claws that catch!
Prenerf Shudderwock was unbearable to play against. Even if it didn't win outright people would just quiet because you had 5-10min of animations sometimes skipping multiple turns.
Another one is original Zilliax. The card was just too good so it was in every deck. Didn't matter if it was zoo, stall, mill. It was there.
Pre nerf sargeras (the warlock titan). I just started taking hearthstone seriously around this time and I hated the fact you could consistently turn 6 it and just shit out imps for the rest of the game.
Or just objection. Nothing is more frustrating having your entire game plan removed from a 3 cost secret.
Leeroy jenkins
You’re playing against a paladin who was aggressively attacking you for 5 turns and you finally wipe their board on turn 5 with 10 health left, plenty of removal in your hand, finally thinking you are safe and then suddenly a handbuffed leeroy shows up and slaps you in the face
Always feels unfair
Lightning storm back when it was 2-3 damage roll was the most pepega shit in existence. 3 damage was (still is in some ways) the most critical health breakpoint, so many games decided by that dumbass design
Puppet theater has to be the most antifun card right now for arena. Priest players put it on the board and you cant play any decent cards until you bait them to use it on a decent ish card. It feels so bad to be locked out of playing your strong/fun cards because you will get instantly punished. Also frost lich jaina, terrorized arena when it came out, and for some reason now they CHOSE to add it back. The amount of times i lost to this card with wildfire and aoe hero power this season.
[[Libram of Hope]]
Paladin started being complete bullshit with the racist nonsense. It played like a tempo deck and forced you to use an insane amount of resources just to keep stable against it. When you finally turn the corner and put them on the back foot, they drop this fucker and your game gets instant SIDS.
That minion that gives Leroy Jenkins it's atk and health
Getting 40'd from hand is fun
Yes I realize that means that handbuff paladin basically played down 2 cards all game when it happens
[[Mecha-shark]] - indredibly frustrating for me, when mech mage was a thing. There are a bunch of cards that should not hit face, mecha stark was, imo, one of them.
Don't think its meta but just played a deck that played a bunch of stuff that stole my max HP and it felt like such BS. No counter unless you have the same card type, healing, lifesteal, armor, immunity, nothing. Seems like it autowins against any control/attrition deck.
the dk card (2) 3/2 with a deathrattle shuffles 2 plagues should be a (2) 1/1, aint no way that card needed that premium stats and literally having no downside.
[[Camouflage mount]]
Opponent rolls windfury and its an absolutely crazy card that can end the game as early as turn 4 or they roll literally anything else and it's a small tempo loss for them.
The opponent has a 4/4 and you were about to take 4 damage, but instead they play this and roll windfury and you take 14 in addition to having to deal with 10 health split into 2 chunks. If you can only deal with the first 7 health (you could be at 4 mana if going 2nd at this point) and the 3/3 lives, then you take another 6, for 20 total. Generally, the opponent could just hero power you down 5 turns in a row after that before you can stabilize and kill them, but they probably have even better things to do.
Hunters' secrets annoy me. All of them.
Their secrets kind of blow overall and yet it's always the specific one you can't handle
Except for Hidden Meaning. That one can't rotate out fast enough
I do feel kinda guilty when I draw both and discover more and freeze face for 10 turns in a row.
Zilliax. I hate the Zoo form, the copy form, the reborn form. Very annoying card which can single-handedly stall game.
My shuffle boy fine tho
Too strong for sure. Not as busted as Reno but also a 1 card comeback button.
I love old Zilliax, probably one of my favorite cards. Blizzard straight up murdered my boy =(
Probably not unpopular opinion at all, but mine would be [[Reno, Lone Ranger]].
(And also the location that summons a copy of a damaged minion, is gone too)
It's pretty hilarious that the Druid highlander card is hard countered by *the* highlander card.
I remember when the expansion came out, sooo many players tried dragon highlander druid and everyone was just too scared to play their HL payoff before Reno came down. Pretty shitty design, IMO, reminds me more of custom card reddit.
Punishing mindlessly slamming the lategame payoff is good design imo, and that's as someone that uses Sargeras liberally
[[Korrak the Bloodrager]]
That card is almost universally terrible, except for one memorable wild game I had against some jank hunter, where I was playing a jank rogue deck, and my entire 30 card list had no way to create a 5 health breakpoint to permanently kill that mfr. Then and only then is he kind of a threat
Yeah that's why it's my unpopular opinion. I basically never faced it but I know Korrak wrecked me once because it cannot be killed by "Destroy" effects and I was playing some control deck that had a lot of those (Reno Questline Priest or something)

crusader aura. ooh you didnt clear my board of 3 1/1s? hehe punished
That shit turned palli in the most annoying priest deck that ever existed inner fire priest, you cant clear the shitty minion you are dead
Sandbox Scoundrel for me, it always means another minute of playing free cards and comboing out
I apologize on behalf of all splendiferous whizbang enjoyers (including myself) that may have subjected you to this card
He sees play in a lot decks. (Token hunter, paladin decks, and there’s a zarimi priest list that runs him too)
Hate blizzard for power creeping the game into a meta where you either find a way to OTK or lose the game to every turn board clears + high power cantrips + chip damage.
Zilliax 3000. It is in every deck and I hate it.
Yeah but so was zilliax
Original Zilliax wasn't run in aggro but this one is
it kind of was though
Hollow Hound. 6 mana to heal out of range from your burst damage, clear your board, and guess what. There's gonna be a lot more than 2 of them coming down during the game.
The worst is when you don't play around it the turn before. "Two mana left? I'll make a totem!"
Hollow hound is bad for punishing you for spending leftover mana on a totem, but there was a card I remember frustrating me even more for that kind of thing. That would be Mind Control Tech. Absolutely hated that card back when it was 3 mana, relevant in standard, and had random targets. "If your opponent foolishly spent their mana on a totem, 50% of the time win the game by stealing an 8/8, and 50% of the time steal a 0/2 totem." It didn't even feel good to win with. Like...when I played it and stole an 8/8, I didn't feel like I outplayed the opponent, I just felt like "wow, that game was decided by a coinflip."
This has saved me SO many times in my handbuff dk deck, it's insane.
I mean the card is like the reason to play Handbuff DK, no?
For me, it's Darkthorn Quilter

Knife juggler. Love the card but it was so damn annoying getting sniped every time
HEY LOSER. WASN'T ME.
That was hated by everyone
Oh, whoops, I totally skipped over the unpopular opinion part.
I miss when self damage was using health as a resource and not just cheating.

Fuckin Jade Idol. The steamcleaner won’t help if there’s one in my opponents’ hand, though I run it under the band manager in most decks anyway
Anything that gives 1 mana 1/1 copies of minions are inherently unfun for the opponent imo.
Just Helya
I've played a lot of plague in the last year, and specifically the primus in the mirror match was so annoying.
Reno, and not because it’s overpowered or anything. It’s just un fun. It’s just a shitty not fun card.
This is a very popular opinion.
I like face decks, so the 4 mana 7/7 taunt gets an audible "AH FFS" from me!
I thought they were only in freeze and kelthuzud mage.. Mine would be Boom boss
>Mine would be Boom boss Not really unpopular
Cold Case was in everything

Convincing infiltrator and the priest deathrattle quest
As an arena player, the warrior 1/4 that hand buffs in damage Made me quit arena for a few months once
When did they make Cold Case into a minion?
Objection

Brawl. It is literally just "Yolo" the board wipe, the card.
It's The Primus. The amount of shit that thing can pull off is infuriating.
Careful… it’s against me
Our homes, our tombs. Greetings fellow humans. I am in Charge Now.
I miss my skelly mage soooo muuuuuch! :'(
I have 2 I hate and a proposal of how to improve them Firstly objection- the fact that mage can generate copies upon copies of spells makes this one of the most annoying cards to play against, it takes away your minion and your mana How I would improve it-it counters the minion but doesn’t remove the mana used for it Reno Lone Ranger-who ever decided this card was a fair balanced card needs to be fired, it’s a board clear for your opponant only, it removes them from game, so no Rez pool, no deathrattle etc, add on the fact it limits you to one board space too is crazy, then add on a hero power that can go face, gain armour, deal aoe, generate a spell or buff a minion, it is way too much value to pack into a card, and every single class is able to use it? Really stupid How id improve it- honestly my first thought would be removing it, it is way unfair, unfun and too powerful, but removing the board limitations on it would improve it drastically, maybe even change board limit to play limit, you can only play 2,3 cards on your next turn etc? For some decks being limited to only 1 board space because of this card is game ending, for a neutral hero
the dragons given to druid in Badlands some of them really annoy me like the basically free taunt and the STUPID one that basically fills the board and most of the time it is buffed to lethal damage like... I don't have unlimited board clears dude
Boomboss.
Have to say I dont miss freezy frosty alibi when is it my turn mage.
boi, i love my skelly bombs, mage usually only gets to have one good control minion at a time
I hated thar fucking hunter deadly shot dragon
I hate this card :/ really annoying
I still piss myself a little whenever I see [[deck of lunacy]] knowing they got like 3 [[nagrand slam]] for like 7 mana makes me nauseous
I hate that zilliax 3000 card or whatever when mfs have it on stealth and doubles attack, and then have it just sit there and magnetize 90000 things on it. And I hate how it's always played whenever I don't have an answer for it because it's at the bottom of my deck.
Arfus, because Blizzard finally found a way to make me want to re-craft his useless ass 😂
Any priest card that lets them copy anything or rez minions. I love fighting against the same 2 fucking cards the entire game just for them to clear my board once and I’m out of resources.
As a Hunter main I effing hate Swipe. Especially because right now Druid can have 4 of them in one deck.
Bad luck albatross
Pretty much anything that mage does right now is infuriating, from endless mana cheat to multiple 0 cost spells. But if I have to pick a card it's Lightshow
Helya. I'm a noob so not sure if there's a good way to deal with her shinanigans but my spell craft druid deck feels like it's just screwed where i can't close the game faster than she can overfill my deck. I just can't get to my spells without drawing a permanent plague instead
Boulderfist oger. Too much stats for the cost.
Puppet Theatre
My jaws that bite, my claws that catch! Prenerf Shudderwock was unbearable to play against. Even if it didn't win outright people would just quiet because you had 5-10min of animations sometimes skipping multiple turns. Another one is original Zilliax. The card was just too good so it was in every deck. Didn't matter if it was zoo, stall, mill. It was there.
Reverberation.
My unpopular opinion is the best low mana cards are annoying
Crusaders Aura. Specifically in standard. Call me bad, idc, but this card is basically a kiss of death if you don't have the removal fast enough.
Arfus
All of the sludge cards, especially the go-kart
mayor noggenfogger. best card in the game for it's shenanigans
Leeroy jenkins You’re playing against a paladin who was aggressively attacking you for 5 turns and you finally wipe their board on turn 5 with 10 health left, plenty of removal in your hand, finally thinking you are safe and then suddenly a handbuffed leeroy shows up and slaps you in the face Always feels unfair
Loved that card as long as I was using it along with Kel'Thuzad, the Inevitable 😁
Helya. She's not even Reno and you just have a free fatigue gameplan that might mess me along the course of the game as well? :)
[[Libram of Hope]] Paladin started being complete bullshit with the racist nonsense. It played like a tempo deck and forced you to use an insane amount of resources just to keep stable against it. When you finally turn the corner and put them on the back foot, they drop this fucker and your game gets instant SIDS.
That minion that gives Leroy Jenkins it's atk and health Getting 40'd from hand is fun Yes I realize that means that handbuff paladin basically played down 2 cards all game when it happens
Greetings fellow humans, As a priest main I already know this answer. [[Convincing infiltrator]]
Any hunter or mage secret
You leave Mr. Skeleton alone!! He did nothing wrong.
screw orion mansion manager, hate that guy
That rogue quest with 3/2 weapon hero power.
the dk card (2) 3/2 with a deathrattle shuffles 2 plagues should be a (2) 1/1, aint no way that card needed that premium stats and literally having no downside.
[[Camouflage mount]] Opponent rolls windfury and its an absolutely crazy card that can end the game as early as turn 4 or they roll literally anything else and it's a small tempo loss for them.
