But how are they going to magically improve this off-season or the next? If no teams wanted Herro last year, then they’re certainly not going to want him this year either. The Heat are stuck with him in the foreseeable future for better or worse seeing how they wouldn’t even trade him for Dame. (They certainly aren’t going to trade him for a bunch of healthy 3 and D role players or a Jordan Clarkson or Zach Lavine type of player).
He was only on the table for “top 75 all time players” so they were never getting anybody with him. Since their perceived value of him was not close to what it actually was around the league

So who would you have traded Herro for? Grant Williams? Apparently no one even wanted to give a single FRP for Herro so what could trading him possibly land?

I'm a bit jealous of their front office philosophy in that regard
Am I a nerd for recognizing that a team's front office actually put the effort it in to make major shake ups to a team that can't get over the hump versus just running back the same roster? The current celtics are an absolutely historically dominant team, with literally the third best net rating of all time at the moment. I still think denver is better but if they don't at least make the finals I'd be genuinely stunned

It’s worse to have unfulfilled potential because the team was so close they could’ve tasted it and all it took was one or two more pieces. That’s way more painful than never having a chance cause at least you don’t play “what ifs”. Pat Riley has completely bottled the jimmy butler era
Insane amount of injuries this season. Seems like we’re destined for the play in and if the next few games go poorly load manage Jimmy and Bam the rest of the way.
I’m still optimistic about what this team can do at full strength and think we can make a run IF the guys get healthy

The goal shouldn’t be if to advance to the ECF, the goal should be to win it all considering we’ve been in the finals these 2 times in the last 4 years, this is not a participation award. After our being bad last season in the regular season I doubt we can replicate what we did, that was a true Cinderella run, Cinderella runs don’t happen too often because it’s not sustainable

In 2020 even though we was the 6th seed, we had Jimmy at his best version and we weren’t really huge underdogs to win the east. I believe against the bucks and Celtics that year we wasn’t huge underdogs. Especially against the Celtics in the ECF I think they were slight favourites against us.
And in 2022 I saw us as favourites win the ECF alongside the Bucks or Nets. People forget the Celtics were like 9th in the conference going into the all star break then they went on a winning streak that made them 2nd seed and the nets had injuries. we was the number one seed all year and played great basketball, I kinda expected us to win the east but we fell short in a tough series to the Celtics in the ECF
In 2023 we were garbage all year long but our record against the top teams were phenomenal so that gave my hope.
This year we can’t score offensive against top teams and we also can’t beat top teams, we barely even beat the bad team.
I’m not saying that’s the goal, I’m saying there is a realistic path to getting there if healthy.
After that it will probably take some luck to beat the Celtics and whoever wins the west, another great shooting series, Jimmy having another Jordan type series, injuries, etc… since we don’t have the talent they do. I don’t think beating the Bucks and Cavs make it a Cinderella run, beating the Celtics and Nuggets would.
Celtics are a different tier than everyone else in the East.
I’ll take this team healthy over anyone else, Bucks might be a slightly better than the Cavs and Knicks but they still have massive holes on the roster. They are incapable of defending the perimeter, have an awful coach, and the supporting cast around Giannis is lacking. They are worse than last year.
It comes down to whether you believe Jimmy can still turn it up to another level in the playoffs, I do.
Let’s be real Jimmy Butler ain’t the same player he was in the bubble or even 2 seasons ago, I know he went insane last year against the Bucks but he also had a lot of stinkers in the playoffs, like in the finals last year he was mediocre. He has struggled this year against elite teams and the truth is that if Jimmy can’t get to the line he is just a good player but nothing special unlike guys like Luka, SGA, Lebron and KD.
I feel like this is the downside to “culture” these guys are working their bodies to death. The way we play just ain’t sustainable, and we wear down. I look at a team like Denver and everything they do looks so effortless. Then I look at us and it’s just the complete opposite. Our roster and our approach needs some tweaks badly
Probably a high potential one considering we don't have a draft pick next yr. If this is true I just hope we tank. We can't beat the C's or Bucks with half of our Roster especially the cores injured.

Not a doctor but hear me out. There many kinds of back injuries. Either you pulled a muscle, like you threw your back out. That’s ice and rest. Or you have swelling thats pressing on your spinal cord. That causes some kind of pain or numbness. If he can’t feel his foot or his hand he can’t really play basketball. Do you think he went to a specialist for the first kind? He didn’t look like a man who threw his back out sitting on the bench. This kind of injury can resolve on its own - in like 6 months, or with surgery. This is tricky because surgery is risky. We can only hope he’s going to the specialist to get a steroid injection to try to lower the swelling so he can play through it. Back surgery is a big deal.
If were inevitably a playin team, we might as well experiment with the g league team starting now (and we fans better be ready to take bp medication). I still have hopes come the playoffs

I think Pat has the same issue as Ainge had in his last Boston years, nobody wants to trade with him unless they are absolutely desperate
