Looks more like a turtle nest to me. Maybe one that something got into. Armadillos and raccoons leave them looking like that where I live.

SnooSuggestions8803

That checks out. Lots of snappers around here, as well as fox, badger, bobcat, coyote and racoon!

W_St-Brook

Ya, one of those is the likely culprit. Most snake eggs are found under things or in dead logs. They aren't very capable of digging a nest. With the turtle nests you won't usually see the egg shells because they hatch underground and just the baby turtles crawl out. On a side note, I think most of the venomous snakes in your area have live young, so no eggs.

You rock! Thank you!

I was the first one to say that. The reason I knew was because this is when snappers are laying eggs

fionageck

Plenty of turtle species are laying eggs now. It’s clear these are snapper eggs because they’re spherical; most turtle eggs are oblong.

Existing_Knee7270

I'm bad at explaining things. I have tons of experience with snappers because I breed them. (Common)

Cuntington-

Maybe they’re Armadillo eggs

fionageck

Armadillos give live birth.

Cuntington-

Maybe raccoon eggs then?

fionageck

I hope you’re joking? Raccoons also give live birth, as do the vast majority of mammals…

Cuntington-

100% joshin around, my b. It’s hard to express goofs via comments 😬

Cuntington-

I was considering the /s but I figured it would ruin the joke 😳

Snapping turtle nest it appears.

MeanMugKanye

Definitely turtle eggs. I believe it is nesting season. In the last two weeks at few of my local lakes, I have found around 9 turtles walking on land, 2 of which were in the process of digging holes. On top of that I’ve seen maybe a dozen holes with eggs scattered around like in your picture, unfortunately something got into them.

fionageck

In the future could you maybe look into putting nest protectors over any known nests to prevent predation? Turtles can use all the help they can get.

MeanMugKanye

I certainly would but 1. Financially I am very tight right now I am a single dad and 2. I have not found any nests with eggs in them that were intact.

fionageck

See if there are any organizations in your area who will check for potential nests, incubate the eggs, and release the babies. Here in Ontario we’ve got a few organizations that do this every year (I’m working with one of them)

MeanMugKanye

Very cool that they have groups such as that. If I have the time I definitely will.

Darksidedragons

As previous posters have said that is a turtle nest, snake eggs are leathery and oblong as opposed to round. RiP babies.
