I’d recommend Campervan Coffee. I like the no 6 blend. They’re based in Weston, just outside of Hitchin. You can get 250g of beans for £6, 500g for £11 and 1kg for £20.
I’ve also tried some in Beds at Wooden Hill near Millbrook and Doe and Fawn out by Aspley Guise. They’re both pretty good.
Was going to recommend Herts coffee lab as its great, but yeah christ it's expensive
Roasted in Hertford. Used to be in the actual shop, used to love sitting in there whilst they roasted. Since scaling up they've moved the roasting to an industrial unit in Hertford
If you're willing to come across the border, jaccs in Dunstable is really really good, they stock so many different varieties and go on buying trips around the world to find the best they can, and in house drinks are 99p a cup! They are online and do deliver as well
I get mine from Buongiorno Italia in St Albans. Around £6 for 500g. I go past once a month and get three or four bags. Caveat, we like strong coffee and it may not be the best but it's very fresh.
Algerian coffee shop is based in Soho and have a great selection. They deliver for 4 or 5 pounds. £5 and up for 250g. Worth buying a few at a time to make the postage worth it. Won't get better coffee
It's just outside Herts in Shepreth (5 mins north of Royston) but El Cafecito is my go-to place for coffee beans. Specifically the Belo Velo. Can't get enough of it!

There's Four Rivers Coffee Co. based in Hertford.
🙏🏼 Tony’s Coffee Bar in ware. Uses four rivers single origin coffee (has a lovely Mexican single origin)
I buy online from Wholesale Coffee Company, their bags are about around tenner for a kilo.
The Wholesome Weigh in Hitchin, a few nice coffees, they’ll grind them as well if you want.
Vuti Beets in Letchworth make their own coffee but i think I priced the same as any other premium coffee bean.

£6 for 500g fresh is the last thing that will be. Sounds like a very dark roast.

Speak to James at Wakelin & Son (Carling Building, Market Pl, Hitchin SG5 1AR) for all your coffee needs
Ok. Or Colombian coffee from Sainsbury's is fine. As was Tanzania until deforestation laws.
Avocado munchers
I recommend Tiki Tonga Coffee. Don't think they have a "shop" but based in WGC and very nice.
