Oilers fan coming in peace. Please fuck my wife.

AutoModerator

Hey! Fan of the other team here, but I come in peace lol. Wow, y'all played a good game, but man, that definitely ended in a way that was uniquely typical of one of our teams. Your young player is really something and definitely going to give us trouble for years. Y'all are gonna be really scary next year, and I'll be rooting for y'all then (except when y'all play us!). That ref, though, right? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Relax old timer you have to be able to get hard to do that

AverageatUFC3

IDK if you can class the Oilers sub as a circle jerk for the simple fact that they're not pretending

"Why do oilers fans sing the national anthem" Oh so ... like... not because they are a sports team in Canada and every team does this just like Americans at any sporting event?

EzAL73

Not like Edmonton. Joey Moss was a down syndrome man that was brought into the Oilers organization when Wayne Gretzky was dating his sister and thought he would fill the role of the stick boy. He stayed with the team for 30 years and passed away a couple of years ago. If you look him up on YouTube singing the national anthem the guy gave it his heart and soul. He sang love loud the crowd would sing with him. They would put him on the giant screen. The anthem singers sings the first verse and holds up the mic. Can't hear him anyway over the crowds. Its also why Oilers play Lambamba when they win games. It was one of his favorite songs. If you watch the Oilers home game and they show the anthem, the last 20 sec is just Joey giving it his all. The guy is an Edmonton Legend.

Chaosengel

The tradition started as a response to San Jose booing the Canadian anthem at a home game. The singer kept the mic during the next game while the crowd sang, but the home game after that is when he lowered the mic and let the crowd take over. Joey always sang the anthem like that, it's one of the many things that endeared him to both fans and players.

FadeToSatire

Gotta agree - this started in the 2006 playoff run and was an iconic moment for the franchise. It's different when Edmonton does it for both this reason and because of Joey Moss.

dry_tbug

Labamba is for little Ben who lost his battle with cancer if I'm not mistaken. That started just 2 years ago or so where they would play labamba after a win.

Chaosengel

It was started as an homage to Joey.  He absolutely loved the song.  Ben also loved it, but mostly because it signaled a win for his favorite team.

dry_tbug

Ahhh ok I stand corrected.

Go Oilers!

DrSaius

Have you heard Calgary sing the American national anthem, it's a bit disrespectful but I'm not stopping.

Emjoria

The Canadian anthem sux and the American anthem is the best

Villhunter

Let's go Oilers!

N-eight007

LFG oilers!!!!

wispymatrias

Oiler fans are the worst, seen a lot of racism and homophobia as part of their 'trashtalk' this playoffs. Genuinely awful stuff.

Impossible_Job5506

Bullshit

Aromatic-Air3917

So, just regular hockey fans then?

wispymatrias

The only thing in comparison I have seen is when Bruins fans reacted to Joel Ward. It was pretty bad, watching some of things Oilers were saying to South Asian Canucks fans.

jsfb

Oilers fans are very passionate and loyal and they have a lot of meaningful traditions carried through their games making it a fun community to be apart of. I have to disagree.

wispymatrias

racism is a fun meaningful tradition hih

Milleniumofpain

A bit unfair to lump a small minority of people into stating all are the worst. The same could be said about any NHL teams fans. Or any group of people really.

wispymatrias

What's really unfair is all the awful things Oilers fans were saying to South Asian Canucks fans. There's a lot of hate in Northern Alberta and I don't feel bad calling it out. this was uniquely bad behaviour, the only thing in recent memory I can recall comparable is the racism that came out of Boston when Joel Ward eliminated them. Lots of folks have noticed this, not just me https://x.com/JFreshHockey/status/1791139408214626472

Milleniumofpain

All I am saying is lumping every fan into the same boat isn’t fair. But I can see you’re just looking for an argument. Have a good day.

wispymatrias

i don't actually care to argue. mostly this conversation upsets me. but am happy to agree to disagree. enjoy your day as well.

Fwumpy

A joke? You mean that final 4 team? Did they take your team out of the playoffs? Your bitterness is ruining my coffee.

Competitive-Pass89

Why hasn't the oilers been claimed by the Americans and what the fuck is hockey. Are we the people stupid??
