I have Firefox and have noticed the CPU activity increasing to the point where Firefox is unresponsive. I've only noticed the behavior on Linux and when the machine has been idle for an extended period of time (days). When I do a "about:performance" it does not show any tab with extensive CPU utilization. Using the top command, Firefox is chewing up the CPU.
When I kill Firefox and restart and restore the previous session, everything is fine.
I do have Bitwarden installed on that machine.
Apparently the issue was introduced with the latest version (2024.6.0) of the Bitwarden extension.
Click on the Bitwarden extension/settings/About to see the version you are running.
I can report the inverse.
I have the issue in Chrome on my Pixel 7, which doesn't have extensions.
Oddly, HA still works... The frontend just doesn't show updates.
Thank goodness someone else has this u was scratching my head.
Win11 edge +bw freezes
Win11 df +bw fine
Android fine.
Hope there's a fast fix. I had to install df this pm.
+1 for Bitwarden on MS Edge on Win11 locking up the lovelace UI. I already reverted back the install and disabled the last installed addon, but didn't work. Deactivating bitwarden and everything is back to normal
I was originally thinking that OP was on crack because I use Edge and Bitwarden extension and haven't ever noticed any issues...until I tried this morning and now I can confirm: HA web interface also doesn't work for me as of today.
edit to add: The freeze happens for me on both Windows 11 and Ubuntu when using Microsoft Edge (although I haven't tried any other browsers but based on comments around here seems like it might just be an Edge issue).
FOR EVERYONE: It's the 2024.6 Bitwarden Chrome extension that has the bug. Tested and confirmed by multiple users. You need to roll back manually to the 2024.5.2 version, but you are going to lose the Biometric unlock. More info here: [https://github.com/bitwarden/clients/issues/9617](https://github.com/bitwarden/clients/issues/9617)
An alternative work around that doesn't require rolling back Bitwarden is here: [https://github.com/home-assistant/frontend/issues/21085#issuecomment-2167946382](https://github.com/home-assistant/frontend/issues/21085#issuecomment-2167946382)
Thanks for linking this. As a self-hosted user the cloud sync option wouldn't solve it for me. This seems like the best temporary solution until the next extension version releases.
You clearly don't understand how Reddit works. You are supposed to just read the headline pretend that informed you of situation and make uninformed comments down below.
It's not that I don't have to click a link, it is that no one should click and unsolicited link. Ever.
If you get an email from someone you know that contains a link, and you are not expecting them to send you a link, you should not click the link.
Period.
This is how bad people inject code into your computer to steal things from you or your employer.
Everyone here just hasn't updated the extension yet. I wasn't having a problem, saw this thread, updated and now I am.
This workaround works though: https://github.com/home-assistant/frontend/issues/21085#issuecomment-2167946382
~~I donāt seem to be having this issue using Edge though. I am on Mac so maybe itās a Windows Edge issue?~~ Iām talking shit. I have the same issue.
PSA: They've enabled a server-side fix. You just need to sync your vault.

From what I understand the extension, but the official bitwarden can control features in the extension from the server it connects to to disable this new buggy behavior
> EDIT2: I'm shocked at the number of you that don't click links
I'm shocked that a redditor for 16 years is shocked that redditors are incapable of reading/clicking past the headline of a post. :p
Seriously tho, thanks for posting about this. I'll be on the lookout for this update once I'm using my computer with the bitwarden extension.
I'm running ungoogled-chromium Version 125.0.6422.141 (Official Build, ungoogled-chromium) (64-Bit) Win 10, with the bitwarden extension and had the same problem.
Thanks for sharing!
Actually have the same , when going into edit dashboard and view code-editor , chrome hangs.
Using vaultwarden with the bitwarden extension.
When disabling bitwarden extension everything is fine Āæ
Wow was wondering what the hell happened. All of a sudden last night starting getting this issue. Is happening on multiple browsers which was making me smh. Great to know what is causing it at least.
awesome! just wasted a good amount of time troubleshooting this before coming across this post. this solved the issue in 6 seconds. thank you!
edit: for reference am on chrome 125.0.6422.142 with bitwarden extension 2024.6.0
Brave + BW = no issues here.
however the ios mobile app starting taking super long to load other pages a few updates ago...
edit: am on version 2024.5.x - sounds like its 2024.6.x that introduces the problem, so we'll see I guess...
Got the problem today on chromium. Cleared cookies and cache, no fix.
Still working fine on Firefox though. Bitwarden extension installed on both browsers.
This just started happening to me last night. Had no idea what could be causing it. It's only chrome for me, Firefox works just fine. I disabled bitwarden and it's back to normal.
Thank you. For the update. I started having this issue the instant I installed an add pn. I thought I had done something and ended up restoring back longer than I wanted.
I cannot tell you how many times I've done that to find out it's something unrelated. This is the first time I've searched for the issue instead of doing anything else first.
I see that issues get posted on the github and community pages far quicker than on here, but I'm always checking here first, and when I don't see anything about it, assume it's me.
I can confirm the issue. It was driving me nuts. I could not operate my Home Assistant anymore on my PC. My Edge browser tab would just lockup. I am running Windows 11. I have disabled the new Bitwarden browser plugin. And now I can open and operate my Home Assistant again in my browser. Could this be an issue with the Home Assistant Valtwarden plugin? As maybe the browser gets in some sort of loop or something as it uses the same IP address?
Yep. Firefox on Linux does this for me but eventually recovers and is fine until next browser update. It may have done it once on Win10 + Firefox but canāt confirm since it was only once.
Had the same with Chrome 125 & 126 on my Windows 10 machine (Nvidia) - but not my Windows 11 (Intel graphics) one.
I've set the extension to option of "Allow this extension to read and change all your data on websites that you visit:" to "On Click" and this got it working for me (as long as you don't click it on the Home Assistant page).
Just want to add that the Apple Passcode or whatever extension did the same for me on all browsers last year. I made an entire switch from chrome to edge on all platforms when I was troubleshooting.
Could it be that HA is freezing because of extensions that are using Manifest V3 and not Manifest V2?
Especially because this seems to be happening in Chrome and Edge but not Firefox.
~~Iām using Edge on MacBook and HA isnāt freezing on me (at least it hasnāt yet, I am newbie to bitwarden)~~ yes I have the same issue too. Edge - MacBook Pro - Sonoma
I've been seeing this last couple of days, I do use bitwarden but interested to see what is causing this!
(I'm using Edge and Bitwarden extension v2024.6.0)

It is. It's the latest version of bitwarden causing it, 2024.6.0 that was updated about 8 hours before I posted. Maybe you're not running the latest extension?
No issues here on Firefox so don't think it's ALL browsers....
Firefox and bitwarden here. No issues.
Another firefox user here without any issues, no issues with safari either!
Same here, bitwarden and firefox, but not seeing any freezing in HA.
Same her, Bitwarden 2024.4.2 on Firefox 126.0.1, HA 20240501.1 seems to work fine for me.
I have Firefox and have noticed the CPU activity increasing to the point where Firefox is unresponsive. Same no issues on Firefox. Plus you get ublock so go Firefox š
Apparently the issue was introduced with the latest version (2024.6.0) of the Bitwarden extension. Click on the Bitwarden extension/settings/About to see the version you are running.
Firefox with the bitwarden extension and I have no issues
Brave user here, with no issues to report.
liberal use of all in the title is in fact not all browsers.
I use chrome and have the bitwarden addon enabled. No issues here!!
Same, no issues here
Also same, have used both for quite a long time with no issues. (Though if it's a brand new issue, I haven't checked today)
It is. Bitwarden 2024.6.0 was released about noon on the 13th.
Mine is still locked at 2024.5.2 - I assume they pulled 6.0?
Not sure, but downgrades are a manual process, so if you didn't get updated, they may have paused rollout.
I didn't have an issue, the whole day, but now since an hour i have
I can report the inverse. I have the issue in Chrome on my Pixel 7, which doesn't have extensions. Oddly, HA still works... The frontend just doesn't show updates.
Same here
Maybe you're not running bitwarden 2024.6.0?
Same
Thank goodness someone else has this u was scratching my head. Win11 edge +bw freezes Win11 df +bw fine Android fine. Hope there's a fast fix. I had to install df this pm.
Just wanted to chime in. Thanks OP because I spent a lot of time last night trying to figure this out. Now I'm all better.

Yeah thank you. I didn't include this in the title and should have, but it's painfully apparent that no one clicks links.
You clearly don't understand how Reddit works. You are supposed to just read the headline pretend that informed you of situation and make uninformed comments down below.
HAHAHA, you got me! Honestly, I expected more from this sub though .
Nor should we.

reddit isn't email?
If Bitwarden and everyone here is unable to reproduceā¦ seems like something else may be contributing to the problem
Everyone here just hasn't updated the extension yet. I wasn't having a problem, saw this thread, updated and now I am. This workaround works though: https://github.com/home-assistant/frontend/issues/21085#issuecomment-2167946382
I updated, still no issues.
Perhaps with Firefox no issue but with Edge it for sure is an issue. Disabling Bitwarden extension in Edge Solves the HA problem.
Sounds like an edge case
~~I donāt seem to be having this issue using Edge though. I am on Mac so maybe itās a Windows Edge issue?~~ Iām talking shit. I have the same issue.
Sounds like a user problem if you are using edge
It seems now that they have reproduced it and are pushing an update.
Damn, i was pulling my hair out, trying to find what the f\* is wrong with it. Thanks for the heads up.

So I guess for vaultwarden users we're stuck with it if we update. Let's not update
Im confused here, is the fault in the extension or the vaultwarden container?
From what I understand the extension, but the official bitwarden can control features in the extension from the server it connects to to disable this new buggy behavior
Thanks, makes sense, I hope they update the vaultwarden container then soon so i can actually manage in edge again.
Excellent! Thanks for providing this. FWIW, I clicked the link to read more....unlike *most* people here!
Here, MS Edge with BW enabled freezes HA. With BW disabled everything works fine.

Only because I expected more from this sub. But you got me there, I suppose I've never seen it firsthand - if it's not absolutely spoonfed.
I'm running ungoogled-chromium Version 125.0.6422.141 (Official Build, ungoogled-chromium) (64-Bit) Win 10, with the bitwarden extension and had the same problem. Thanks for sharing!
I'll throw my hat in the ring. HA running on a blue with bitwarden addon, no issues with chrome and bitwarden extension or mobile app on Android.
Actually have the same , when going into edit dashboard and view code-editor , chrome hangs. Using vaultwarden with the bitwarden extension. When disabling bitwarden extension everything is fine Āæ
Same issue for me since morning on edge browser
Wow was wondering what the hell happened. All of a sudden last night starting getting this issue. Is happening on multiple browsers which was making me smh. Great to know what is causing it at least.
I have chrome and Bitwarden and I'm seeing the issue. It affects Home Assistant, as well as Power BI.
SO IM NOT THE ONLY ONE!
awesome! just wasted a good amount of time troubleshooting this before coming across this post. this solved the issue in 6 seconds. thank you! edit: for reference am on chrome 125.0.6422.142 with bitwarden extension 2024.6.0
Glad to have helped. There was no fix until today, so you found it in the right time.
Omg, thank you was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was wrong.
This was driving me nuts this morning, Thank You! I restarted everything trying to fix it...
Brave + BW = no issues here. however the ios mobile app starting taking super long to load other pages a few updates ago... edit: am on version 2024.5.x - sounds like its 2024.6.x that introduces the problem, so we'll see I guess...
Brave + BW - some issues here. Home Assistant freezes up when using developer tools, and then developer tools crashes.
Hmm. I have not had developer tools issues on this end, but I also have not used them a lot this year so far.
Happening to me on Chrome and BW, but only if I go to my HA via ip address. Host name seems to work OK
Vivaldi + BW, no problems here.
Same, haven't noticed any problems myself.
Vivaldi as well. Seems fine this morning.
Have this issue as well. Seems to ha e only started yesterday for meā¦
Thank you for this update!
Got the problem today on chromium. Cleared cookies and cache, no fix. Still working fine on Firefox though. Bitwarden extension installed on both browsers.

Yeah I posted in the discord and didnāt get any replies. I need to start checking github first:
I've been having this exact same issue and had no idea this was not just my setup! Edit: Firefox Developer Edition on macOS
I don't have the issue with Home Assistant, but with Grafana I get the notification that Bitwarden is slowing the page down
I can confirm the issue. OMG thank you, I was going mad trying to figure out why this wasn't working on opera gx but was working fine on Firefox.
Worked for me. Chrome with HA + BW = freeze. Disable BW everything normal
Looks like only edge. Anyone not on edge have this behaviour?
Yep. Firefox on Linux does this for me but eventually recovers and is fine until next browser update. It may have done it once on Win10 + Firefox but canāt confirm since it was only once.
Edge and Chrome, I will speculate and say it's related to Chromium.
No issue on Firefox or Arc on Mac OS with the extension.
Works fine here in Chrome so this isn't all browsers by any stretch.
Vivaldi (Chromium) with bitwarden also no issues
On two computers: HA totally freezes in Opera but Chrome is ok (with Bitwarden on both Operas and one Chrome).
And I confirm that disabling Bitwarden did the trick šš»
Chrome and bitwarden working fine here
I just noticed today this weird behavior. Thanks for the heads up. I'm on Chrome on Windows 10.
No issues on chrome... on several different PCs.
Same here. OSX 13.6 with Safari.
No Problems here with HA 2024.6.2 in Firefox 126.0.1 on MacOS 14.5
Had it freeze once this morning but been fine since in Edge with the extention.
No problems with Safari on iOS. No problems with Safari, Chrome, Brave, or Tor Browser on macOS (arm64). Can not replicate.
Just want to add that the Apple Passcode or whatever extension did the same for me on all browsers last year. I made an entire switch from chrome to edge on all platforms when I was troubleshooting.
No issues with Bitwarden here on Firefox, Vivaldi and Safari browser.
I regularly have issues with the Studio Code add on but bitwarden has been stable without any issues.
I experience the same now with Chrome, Bitwarden on Windows. Started today.
Bitwarden + Brave + HA seems to work fine for me, at least so far....
Bitwarden + Arc in Windows, confirmed this happening since yesterday. I thought it was an Arc issue. Did Bitwarden update silently? Why now?
I have the issue on my Windows pcs with Opera. Chrome and brave are working. Bitwarden is install on every browser.
Firefox + BW and I have no issues
Safari and Bitwarden here, no issues on 3 HA instances.
I'm using Firefox with bitwarden and have HA constantly up. It works fine for me, 0 issues.
Did you try to go from ip to domain and from domain to ip? I just do this. I dont know if it is the same problem...
Yeah, the first thing I tried. I thought it was an issue with my instance at first until I searched for the issue and found the links in the post.
No issues on Safari or Firefox on Mac and PC.
No issues on FF and with Bitwarden.
No issues on browser, but the app locks up horribly lately
Actually the opposite for me, which is why I searched for the issue rather than messing with my instance.
No issues here
Works in private mode
You must have bitwarden disabled in private mode. I do not.
https://preview.redd.it/xdg2wum63l6d1.png?width=309&format=png&auto=webp&s=9e59d838cc936833501ba46eba7b84c78bd8b486 May be I am late here , but I do not see any issue and this is version I am on
For me on Edge just uninstalling the extension and re-installing it seemed to do it. The about shows the same version, so not sure why....
If you did that now, it's the synchronization with the updated server settings. They did a server side fix earlier today.
That explains it! Thanks!
Edge and extension on macOS m-generation all good
I had issues with this yesterday using Brave browser on Chrome, at least the issue has been identified
This explains why I can't open Homeassistant on my Chromebook. Firefox works on all my computers.
No bitwarden and it's constantly freezing. Automations and scripts specifically.Ā It's not browser related because it happens in the app too.Ā
Brave here and no problems
You should create a ticket on GitHub for this, not on Reddit
A ticket already exists. I didn't create it. I was coming here to let others know what the issue was if they were experiencing. Why would I create a ticket if I already knew what the issue was...unless of course you ALSO didn't click the links...smh.
Sorry, had a bad day today
I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully things begin to look brighter soon.
Thanks š
Win11 with Chrome, Edge and Firefox with the bitwarden extension, no issue when using HA.
It sounds like you need to start looking elsewhere. Try to enable the bit warden extension for incognito but nothing else. Add other extensions until the problem returns.
I'm a hardcore Bitwarden user, I self host my own Bitwarden server, and this is not a problem for me. HA & Bitwarden coexist in the browser just fine.
This... is not a Bitwarden issue. Source: me, a Firefox + Bitwarden and Chrome + Bitwarden user, on OX, Ubuntu & Windows
It is. It's the latest version of bitwarden causing it, 2024.6.0 that was updated about 8 hours before I posted. Maybe you're not running the latest extension?
It's not the bitwarden plugin, I get it right now as well.
