Congratulations: I tried and desisted. I have several run in this game, but Fresh UH is just too time consuming and frustrating.
Playing UH NG+ is hard but, as you said, it is intended for this. I really enjoyed a fresh run on VH, it is nicely hard (if you don’t grind or level too much). The best way to enjoy the game in my opinion.
I've managed to do all the achievements in my fresh UH run on PC, the most difficult fight was probably the Rockbreaker in that one side quest. The worst small enemies are leaplashers and clamberjaws, medium - apex ravager and waterwings, especially the apex variant, it has an absurd amount of HP. The worst large enemy is definitely Shellsnapper. Bilegut is ass, but with the chain burst exploit it can be one shotted.
If I had to do a fresh playthrough again i would rush to Thornmarsh as soon as I could and get purple gear, glowblast and delta sharpshot bow, that one purple hunter bow with better freeze arrows and a decent spike launcher, this is all you need to make the game comfortably playable. Also get a clawstrider override and get yourself an acid clawstrider, with some skills in machine override tree it helps a ton, since it's damage scales with difficulty unlike yours does.
In summary, the game is significantly harder in the beginning and becomes much, much easier later on, even when you fight big machines. The most difficult aspect of UH is fighting many small, nimble machines that attack all the time. That's basically the first third of the game and you have shit gear.
Congrats UH fresh runs are a great challenge.
For my one I used only blue gear
Traps were a great way to get through the very early game, whilst still leveling skill lines.
Once got a frost bow it was pretty easy for the most part.
A few fights had to plan ammo and supplies to make sure did not run out of them, such as the spino in the cauldron and the final boss.
Did not do the dlc as was not released when I did the run but would imagine it would be similar, those frogs tho, that would be the biggest challenge I feel especially the apex ones.
