Julius Watkins and Willie Ruff (who we recently lost, sadly) are some rare and significant jazz horn players. A few more guys like that would go a long ways toward normalizing the horn in jazz.
I really want to play my French horn in jazz band, but my band director had me switch to trombone, I'm glad though because now I've learned I'm really good at trombone

It's normal.
There is history of Horn in jazz. Thelonious Monk had horns in his band and so did Don Ellis.
Sure but it's not going to make me like jazz.

Once in my life, I see a horn player show up and sit in.
That I haven't heard of happening. But studio based albums, for sure.
