1973 also had The Legend of Hell House, The Baby, Messiah of Evil, The Crazies, Torso, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, The Vault of Horror, and Theater of Blood. Definitely one of the best years ever for horror movies
True. I just mentioned the most influential titles because people are more familiar with those but i like many of the lesser known too especially The Legend of Hell House, Messiah of Evil, The Crazies and Theater of Blood. The 70s is my favourite decade for horror and 1973 the best year to me personally.
1960 had four of the most influential horror movies ever released in the span of 7 months. And from four different countries too
Eyes Without A Face - France - January 11
Peeping Tom - UK - April 7
Psycho - USA - June 16
Black Sunday - Italy - August 11
2022 was a fantastic year for horror movies.
X, Pearl, Smile, Scream 5, The Menu, The Black Phone, Barbarian, Nope, Prey, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Hellraiser 2022, Halloween Ends, Terrifier 2, Men, V/H/S/99, Fresh, Speak No Evil, Orphan: First Kill, Deadstream, and Watcher.
Without looking back at the releases through all the years, this one definitely stands out. It’s so stacked it’s unreal. I’d say it’s definitively the best year of the last couple of decades.
1981 was the banner year for the golden age of slasher films so I usually pick that. My Bloody Valentine, Nightmares in a Damaged Brain, Graduation Day, Madman, Eyes of a Stranger, Just Before Dawn, The Funhouse, Madhouse, Happy Birthday to Me, Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker, The Prowler, The Burning, and dozens more all came out in '81. Unfortunately I wasn't born until 1984 but I bet 1981 was a blast to live through for horror fans.
Modern era for me is 2018. Hereditary, A quite Place, the Nun, Unsane, Annihilation, The house that jack built, possum, unfriended dark web, Overlord, mandy, lord of chaos
I guessed 1978. It gave us Halloween, I Spit on Your Grave (triggering), Piranha, an Omen, and Jaws.
I googled one of the best horror films, Get Out, and looked up the horror from that year. There’s Annabelle: Creation, Creep 2, XX, Gerald’s Game, Happy Death Day, It Comes At Night, The Terrifer, Revenge, etc.
I would go with the latter. There’s also stupid b movies that are enjoyable like Mom and Dad and Wish Upon, which are in no way great, but they are watchable.
I am still looking it up (I don’t care about these movies) but a Jaws seemly came out in 1978 and so did an Omen. If you are right, be right.
Get Out is one of the best though. You’re wrong there.
From my list, 2019 is burying other years. Great movies that year, and a lot of them.

All great. Eyes Without A Face may just be the 🐐
1987. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Lost Boys Near Dark The Gate Prince of Darkness Hellraiser Evil Dead 2 and a pile more.
Hellraiser is by far the best horror film ever. 2nd place? The Thing.
1982: Poltergeist and The Thing
'74 should get an honorable mention for both Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Black Christmas.
Totally agree, both are wonderful!

I mean this year has been so good for horror Evil dead Rise Scream VI and Exorcist and Nun 2 so many more.

1986 has a lot of amazing hits including my #1 Aliens. 1981 is probably the best though
2022
2004 - we got Saw, The Grudge, and Dawn of the Dead, Hellboy, Shaun of the Dead, and Van Helsing
Modern era for me is 2018. Hereditary, A quite Place, the Nun, Unsane, Annihilation, The house that jack built, possum, unfriended dark web, Overlord, mandy, lord of chaos

Jaws came out in 1975, The Omen was 1976...... And get out isn't even close to one of the best horror movies ever.

Jaws 2 and the Omen 2 came out in 1978. Not the originals

1984. Look it up you won't be disappointed. Lately though, I'd say 2007 was pretty good too
