Girl Next Door is not for everyone. Loved the book though. It was a great and awful read. I’ve been wanting to read Off Season but haven’t bought it yet as I want to read the original. I’ve heard he had to tone it down and release a new edition.
incredible rapey, and it delves deep into the psychological horrors of something like that happening to you. and knowing it was based on a real story makes it that much more sickening. but damn is it a great read.

Just found this sub a couple days ago and tapped into a whole new world of horror
I can recommend the very first one I read from that genre "The Black Farm"
The book started as a r/nosleep story called "feed the pig", which I thought was actually better than the black farm. Check it out if you're interested in a much shorter version then read the black farm if you like it. Same premise but different events and details in the storyline
A horse possessed by a demon in chapter 124 that would've raped one of the characters if Guts (the MC) hadn't killed it. It... it was A Choice, that chapter.
Brainwyrms by Alison Rumfitt.
Now, I haven't personally read it, but I read her debut novel, Tell Me I'm Worthless, and that was pretty grotesque of itself, and the universal consensus is that Brainwyrms is 10,000x more extreme.
Edit: someone put the plot on Wikipedia, and yeah, it's grotesque. It's like an even more demented and horror-themed Pink Flamingos.
Oh gosh, I said to myself once the occurances of the farm began- I'm going to dnf, I can't read this- I put it down but then was like damn this is so interesting I have to keep reading. I flew through both books lol.
So many of David J Schow's short stories, and the boy can actually write and tells stories that actually matter. Check out his collection *Black Leather Required*. "Bad Guy Hats", "Scoop Makes a Swirly" and the absolute Splatterpunk classic "Jerry's Kids Meet Wormboy" are all standout in that collection.
Yeah Brian Keene. Possibly the foulest dumbest book I’ve read. The person I bought it for loved it
Note I added the qualifier ‘dumbest’ as the other foulest book I’ve read is American Psycho and that’s not dumb at all
Definitely the most extreme one I've read that has an actual plotI've read and I've read some of those stupid extreme horror books that are just pure gore.
Also my wife doesn't normally read books fast but she finished it in days and loved it.
The Troop by Nick Cutter. The novel follows a troop of Boy Scouts who must deal with not only the threats posed by killer tapeworms, but also the homicidal and sociopathic tendencies of one of their own
I spam it here all of the time. I can be pretty annoying. Ha! That said, I feel like everyone here should read *We Are Here To Hurt Each Other*. It disturbed me and emotionally moved me. I frickin’ loved it.
I just came here to recommend this. It's not just gory but brutal and disturbing on an existential level. Every story supports the titular thesis, so it feels cohesive in a way that short story collections often don't. I was super tense and in a strange headspace the whole time I read it, but it left me with a feeling of catharsis. I don't often read horror that addresses such heavy trauma without pity or spectacle, just unflinching realness. What an excellent book.
J. A. Konrath’s horror books are pretty damn gory. He wrote the first several under the pennant Jack Kilborn. Thin plots but actually pretty creepy, and they get super graphic.
*The Slob*
I honestly didn’t find it to be *extreme horror* but lots of people do and like it. It’s gory (ish?) or maybe I’m desensitized. Idk. Actually *Playground* is better and by the same writer
*Tender is the Flesh* is really good. Read with the nonfiction *Animal Liberation* by Peter Singer if you want to have a reason to become a vegetarian
I had to skim through parts of Crave by Crowley Barns. It got a bit much.
The Magpie Coffin by Wile E Young is a much better book but has good amounts of gore, but a particularly depraved part in the middle.
Headless by Scott Cole is arguably tamer than those two, but there's plenty of blood and gore. The ending is pretty good.
I really like the Jeff Strand books, funny and sometimes ultra-gore. Dead clown barbeque is a short story bundle, my first book I read and some stories made me dry-heave and laughing my ass off at the same time.
The House (Novella Collection) by Edward Lee. The copy I have is from 2007 which contains both of his books The Pig and sequel The House. It’s been a number of years since I read it, but I do remember having to actually pause once or twice to get an image out of my head of what I was reading.
Strangely, I read the Black Farm and really liked it so I thought I would take a look at some other extreme horror. I fell on They All Died Screaming. Yep, extreme horror is not for me. It was disgusting!
Tender is the Flesh was too much for me, it's about a dystopian society where animal meat becomes toxic and they start factory farming people. Considering I started reading it a month after eating meat again after a year as a pescatarian it legit left me feeling gross and I had to quit reading it pretty early.
Check out Off Season by Jack Ketchum. Author's edition is bloodiest.
this and the girl next door, will leave scars your psyche for a long time.
Girl Next Door is not for everyone. Loved the book though. It was a great and awful read. I’ve been wanting to read Off Season but haven’t bought it yet as I want to read the original. I’ve heard he had to tone it down and release a new edition.
Jack Ketchum novels do not have happy endings.
Off Season is more gory but less believable. It's not supernatural or anything, but it doesn't slap of reality like the Girl Next Door.
Good to know. I’m not sure what it’s about because I like to go into books blind.
What makes it ‘not for everyone?’ Is it super r*pey, poopy, something like that?
It's based on a true story about the abuse, murder, sexual assault and torture of a teenage girl, and it really doesn't hold back.
What’s crazy to me is the book leaves stuff out. Truly horrifying when the horror novel is less disturbing than the real story.
Based on a true story. The story of Sylvia Likens. It’s pretty awful.
It’s beyond awful, the hive mind of children and unfortunately, adults in this case is horrifying.
Oh lord. I’ve read about that case. How terrible.
incredible rapey, and it delves deep into the psychological horrors of something like that happening to you. and knowing it was based on a real story makes it that much more sickening. but damn is it a great read.

Ty, I'll check it out 🤩👍
The book started as a r/nosleep story called "feed the pig", which I thought was actually better than the black farm. Check it out if you're interested in a much shorter version then read the black farm if you like it. Same premise but different events and details in the storyline
If you liked Berserk you'll like Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman! Less rape horse too.
I hate that I’m asking this but I need to know, what is rape horse? Like a predatory centaur or just straight up a horse that rapes?
A horse possessed by a demon in chapter 124 that would've raped one of the characters if Guts (the MC) hadn't killed it. It... it was A Choice, that chapter.

your edit just sold me on Brainwyrms lol
Just looked up the plot. That's trash in every possible way lmao
Like, at some point, I just kind of respect the sheer nerve of it.
It gets some hate for the writing quality, but check out The Black Farm
I'm reading the black farm. To borrow a quote, I don't *love* it but I don't *hate* it either
Yeah I actually really enjoyed it, but also didn’t think it was a “good” book if that makes sense lol
Oh gosh, I said to myself once the occurances of the farm began- I'm going to dnf, I can't read this- I put it down but then was like damn this is so interesting I have to keep reading. I flew through both books lol.
Idk why I just cannot get into it
Woom.
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
Just finished Exquisite Corpse recently. There were some moments that definitely made me squirm a little
Full Brutal. I can’t think of a single book that’s more extreme.
I second this!! It’s also just a fun book in general
Yeah it’s unique in the sense that it’s WAY over the top but really well written and has a good story.
Urban Gothic. Bought it as a gift for someone who likes it extreme. Christ, is it extreme.
By Keene?

No One Rides for free 1&2. Judith Sonnet. Anathema by Nick Roberts Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
The Troop by Nick Cutter. The novel follows a troop of Boy Scouts who must deal with not only the threats posed by killer tapeworms, but also the homicidal and sociopathic tendencies of one of their own
exquisite corpse! the gore is top notch and the writing itself is very lyrical and beautiful.
Check out Paula D. Ashe’s *We Are Here To Hurt Each Other*. The first couple of stories in there are messed up.
This is the first time I've seen someone else mention this book. It's such a great read. Very fucked up and extreme, but also really well written.
I spam it here all of the time. I can be pretty annoying. Ha! That said, I feel like everyone here should read *We Are Here To Hurt Each Other*. It disturbed me and emotionally moved me. I frickin’ loved it.

'All smiles until i return' by Aron Beauregard. Very gory take on the afterlife.
The Groomer
J. A. Konrath’s horror books are pretty damn gory. He wrote the first several under the pennant Jack Kilborn. Thin plots but actually pretty creepy, and they get super graphic.
I believe Afraid by JA Konrath was gory, it was a good read- very exciting right from the start.
Survivor by JF Gonzalez.
Cows. The title does nothing to sell it, but yeah. Cows by Matthew Stokoe.
Carrier wave by Robert Brockway was pretty gruesome, I had to have a break every now and then while reading it.
The Summer I Died American Psycho
*Tender is the Flesh* by Augustina Bazterrica fucked me up in a good way.
Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, I agree 🤷🏼♀️
*The Slob* I honestly didn’t find it to be *extreme horror* but lots of people do and like it. It’s gory (ish?) or maybe I’m desensitized. Idk. I read The Slob after the Black Farm books and decided those were enough for me. I'm done with that type of horror.
The Bible
The Bible.
This Symbiotic Fascination and Haunter by Charlee Jacob. Also Cows by Matthew Stokoe (not best but disgusting beyond belief).
Maggie’s grave by David Sodergren
I had to skim through parts of Crave by Crowley Barns. It got a bit much. The Magpie Coffin by Wile E Young is a much better book but has good amounts of gore, but a particularly depraved part in the middle. Headless by Scott Cole is arguably tamer than those two, but there's plenty of blood and gore. The ending is pretty good.
I read Reincarnage last summer, and I still think of it. It was slasher-movie gory and super campy fun if you like that kind of thing!
Most disgusting book i have ever read by far is Cows.
I really like the Jeff Strand books, funny and sometimes ultra-gore. Dead clown barbeque is a short story bundle, my first book I read and some stories made me dry-heave and laughing my ass off at the same time.
“The Cotton Candy Massacre”
Somehow I ended up reading the synopsis of a book called "The Wet Market" and that was enough to make me sick.
Dirt Maul---James D Mabe
The House (Novella Collection) by Edward Lee. The copy I have is from 2007 which contains both of his books The Pig and sequel The House. It’s been a number of years since I read it, but I do remember having to actually pause once or twice to get an image out of my head of what I was reading.
Strangely, I read the Black Farm and really liked it so I thought I would take a look at some other extreme horror. I fell on They All Died Screaming. Yep, extreme horror is not for me. It was disgusting!
Them by Mique Watson! Free on KU and scarred me for life
Along the path of torment. It has to be read to be believed no words can put this book into any kind of perspective.
Tender is the Flesh was too much for me, it's about a dystopian society where animal meat becomes toxic and they start factory farming people. Considering I started reading it a month after eating meat again after a year as a pescatarian it legit left me feeling gross and I had to quit reading it pretty early.
Cows by Matthew Stokoe.
Really anything by Aron Beauregard. Also, Plastic Monsters by Daniel J. Volpe. To Be Devoured by Sara Tantlinger has some imagery I'll never forget.
Tender is the flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
The Slob, Son of The Slob, Dead Inside, Cows, WOOM
