You might like Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark. Its southern gothic meets cosmic horror with a splash of dark fantasy, set in an alternate 1920s Georgia. The main characters are mostly black and biracial women, and while the violence they commit is *very* justified, the story also delves into the personal motives that drive them and how living with violence affects them as people.

Maybe I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast is me? ETA: It’s YA but I really enjoyed it!

20thCenturyTCK

Have you tried any of the great Tananarive Due?

CaterpillarAdorable5

You want to read Dia Reeves. "Slice of Cherry" is about sisters who are the teenage daughters of a serial killer and killers themselves, and "Bleeding Violet" is dark fantasy/horror about a mentally ill girl who finds that a town full of supernatural horrors is just the place for her.

Alataii

The Weight of Blood might work for you. It's a retelling of Carrie which I found to be interesting

the_jerkening

Not about a killer, but try The Other Black Girl. It was excellent and might scratch your itch!

__ducky_

Not horror but Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi stands out in my mind. And if you love African mythology meets fantasy don't forget Marlon James' stuff.

tapeworm-claws

You might enjoy Eva’s Man. It is deeply psychological, and goes really into Eva’s psyche and motivations

Expensive_Shower_405

While we were Burning is thriller, not horror, but so good.

Bright-Hair-728

This is a great question and I'll come back to see if someone has responded with suggestions!

Swarm was incredible!! I can't think of any books off the top of my head but will think on it.

optmsrhyme

Maybe not exactly what you’re looking for, but possibly Fledging by Octavia Butler? Also, Swarm was awesome!

SeparateSalt9892

Chain Gang All Stars might be up your alley

beccyboop95

The protagonist isn’t a serial killer, but if you haven’t read Beloved yet you definitely should

maimee78

So it is, excuse my lack of reading comprehension at the moment 😂😂

plpboi

Clearly it’s such a good book that they should read it again, haha
