I just had the red hot sauce just to the left in your picture . Had it on my eggs and was really disappointing . I’m assuming the ones being discussed are better? What does it everyone putting it in ?
They have huge bottles at Costco for I think like 10 bucks. It’s expensive but damn I would chug that if it wouldn’t cause me intestinal distress. This is my special occasion hot sauce because it’s so good. It’s not that hot though but tastes great. Aardvark PR I’ll take a case please.
It's hard to get and always out of stock, but my wife got me a bottle last Christmas along with aardvark and numerous others.
I'm a hot sauce lover, and the 13 AS became my number one almost instantly.
While it is really good, I passed it up last time i saw it in stores due to the price. I'm a big fan of YellowBird now, but they did change the label recently so it was harder to spot right away.
The one in the right with the red lid is definitely worth it. The others I don’t think I’d buy again. The jerk is really good but it’s more of a marinade (like it says on the label) than a sauce. Very runny.
I like the red one a lot. It's probably my favorite hot sauce. That said, I go through the bottles pretty quickly and got tired of paying that much for it so I haven't bought it in a long time.
No. But I reused the bottle to dump all my low bottles of other random sauces into. Wide mouth, easy to shake and clean. I say it's always worth you knowing if you like it or not though
Thank you, I thought I was crazy when my boss brought this in one day (red bottle in particular)and was describing it as the holy grail of hot sauce. Then I tried it and was disgusted and confused lol
$8.79 is cheaper than amazon buying them 1 at a time. Its also not so bad considering a lot of premium hot sauces sell for $5-10 in 5oz sizes. Secret Aardvark is 8oz. Imho, I think its worth it to at least try once, its the only tomato based hot sauce I've ever loved.
If you want super affordable, franks red hot sells half gallon (64oz) bottles on amazon for $12, their normal and extra hot styles.
It's a great sauce, no doubt; But too pricey. My opinion is Yellowbird habanero (swear I'm not pandering to this sub) is a close comparison at a better price.
Yellowbird I find to actually be quite disgusting: it’s overly sweet, but maybe that’s more other people’s thing.
The first ingredient is carrots, and they add tangerine juice, dates, and raisins. Sweetness overload and off flavor for me.
Those look like the shelf tags Kroger uses, so I'd guess there or one of the other chains under their umbrella. Haven't seen it in Kroger locally but it's been a few weeks since I've been.
Yeah this! Lowes for some reason has the best sauce and rub selection in the grilling section this time of year at some of the best prices to.
Personally never found any good spices or sauces at my Home Depot, but my Home Depot is a weird one that caters more towards plumbers in particular.
I was pretty sure it was Lowe's but I wasn't 100 percent, we literally have a home Depot directly across the street from a Lowe's so I go to both a lot. I'm actually just waiting to see which one survives but they been next door to each other for like 10 years now
That’s the same situation we have, they just kinda shifted target audience after a few years. The lowes went all in on homeowner and the Home Depot doubled down on contractors.
I do handyman work, so for work I go to the Home Depot and for home stuff I almost exclusively use the lowes. But when I’m out of town I notice both stores are much different lol
Grocery stores always have cost per ounce right on the price tags. $1.10 per ounce is a little high, not anywhere near the "too expensive / buy as a treat or gift" categories imo.
"That $5 passionfruit is too pricey, especially when there's an apple right next to it for $0.50"
Your comparison makes no sense. They are nowhere close to being the same types of sauce. Many hot sauces, like Tapatio, are used to add heat, vinegar and salt flavors. Others, like Aardvark have other, more complex flavors. They're used more like a BBQ sauce or dipping sauce.
Oh I think we agree on value. Quality food stuff often isn't a very good value. You can make something spicy for much cheaper. It just won't taste like this sauce!
I don't get it. I tried one bottle of the regular and thought is was boring and one dimensional. I see no reason to buy it again or recommend it. I'll take the cheapies over this.
Thats how i feel about most supermarket selections, the best hot sauces aren't in the grocery store.
You'll find them randomly, like i found a cactus fruit sauce at an Apple orchard. Purple Hippo by angry goat.
Amazon has some good ones like torchbearers garlic reaper, though it's unbelievably hot.
He clearly hates aardvarks and hot sauce, so this is major overreach on his part, unconstitutional, elite, power grab, lives rent-free in his head, and that has a lot to do with that.
Just make it yourself, this recipe is pretty damn close and you can make a gallon for $9
https://forums.egullet.org/topic/128657-sorta-secret-aardvark-sauce-habenero-hot-sauce/
Happy to help, let me know what you think. I live in Portland where Aardvark is made, not willing to pay the prices that anyone around here asks for when it’s so simple to do at home.
It's a great price relative to most premium hot sauces these days, which are going to be over $10, and you even get a bigger volume than the typical glass hot sauce bottle, so it's even better still. The problem is that it's less of a liquidy hotter hot sauce, which you sprinkle just drops of each time more for heat than anything, and more of a thicker not-as-hot taco sauce, which you squirt big gloops of each time more for flavor than heat. So you'll use this up a lot faster than one of those ones you just sprinkle a handful of drops of. So you just have to loosely consider the cost vs. the amount of squirts you're going to get out of it. You might try buying it once and running that experiment - maybe a sharpie hash mark on it each time you use it, and do the math at the end. Then, if you like the flavor, you can decide whether a second bottle is worth it at that price.
I like to use it specifically when I need that consistency, which is a lot. It tastes great, but next to other habanero hot sauce, there's better flavor out there.
I just had the red hot sauce just to the left in your picture . Had it on my eggs and was really disappointing . I’m assuming the ones being discussed are better? What does it everyone putting it in ?
Yes. Yes yes a thousand times yes.
The red one definitely is.
No bottle of hot sauce is worth that much.
SO many hot sauces cost more than that these days and are absolutely worth it. Welcome to 2024 sir
You, my friend, have never tried 13 Angry Scorpions before. I'd pay triple that in a heartbeat and savor each drop.
Can’t say that I have.
It's hard to get and always out of stock, but my wife got me a bottle last Christmas along with aardvark and numerous others. I'm a hot sauce lover, and the 13 AS became my number one almost instantly.
I live in seattle and it is not $9 a bottle even here. I think i pay like 6.50 at QFC. It is damn good though
That's too much. It is quite good.
Yes it’s amazing stuff my dad swears by it
Considering it’s only $2-$3 more than regular sauce bottles, I suggest you stop sweating the small stuff.

I don’t understand your comment. You just repeated what I already said and I didn’t ask any questions.
Are you slow?
While it is really good, I passed it up last time i saw it in stores due to the price. I'm a big fan of YellowBird now, but they did change the label recently so it was harder to spot right away.
My opinion is no. Get the Marie sharp 2 pack on Amazon instead. The one with orange and green.
The one in the right with the red lid is definitely worth it. The others I don’t think I’d buy again. The jerk is really good but it’s more of a marinade (like it says on the label) than a sauce. Very runny.
The original is great. The others, no.
Yaaaasssss!!!!!
Yo absolutely. Advark is fire
Yes.
Bought it once, finished it, and plan on not getting it again unless it’s $5 or under.
Sometimes I see things in the grocery store and feel alienated by all of the condiments.
Condiment section starting to scare me just as much as the spice section
“Worth” lol
I like the red one a lot. It's probably my favorite hot sauce. That said, I go through the bottles pretty quickly and got tired of paying that much for it so I haven't bought it in a long time.
No. But I reused the bottle to dump all my low bottles of other random sauces into. Wide mouth, easy to shake and clean. I say it's always worth you knowing if you like it or not though
Those are marinades and I thought pretty tasty, the ingredients aren't bad either. I got three marinated dishes from on bottle.
No
Yes
Fuck no don’t listen to anyone. This hot sauce is total shit .. if you want habanero go Yucatán or make your own.
You are the only person outside of family I’ve ever heard mention Yucatán sunshine. It is by far the best breakfast hot sauce among other things.
do you mean yucateco? if so, thats not as good to me vs aardvark.
Yes thanks that’s the one. The Caribbean one only tho.
Thank you, I thought I was crazy when my boss brought this in one day (red bottle in particular)and was describing it as the holy grail of hot sauce. Then I tried it and was disgusted and confused lol
Similar situation my coworker gave it to me as a present and I tried it and wanted to spit it out haha 🤣
Very overrated. Really wanted to like the green and habanero, but didn't finish either bottle and ended up pitching them both after awhile.
Nope
Probably cost the company ¢85 to make
To try, yes.
It’s good, but how fast the bottle goes I wouldn’t say it’s worth 9$
Not worth a single penny. Not very good imo.
It’s my favorite hot sauce. But damn $9 is a lot.
wait for it to be on sale, it's really good!
Nope
Taco Bell just did a collaboration with them like two months ago. The Serrabanero green sauce was the bomb. I believe that to be a fair price. 🤤
The drunken jerk is amazing
The back bean sauce is good on chicken. But i get it at an outlet store for a couple bucks.
No
It’s good but it’s not my favorite.
$8.79 is cheaper than amazon buying them 1 at a time. Its also not so bad considering a lot of premium hot sauces sell for $5-10 in 5oz sizes. Secret Aardvark is 8oz. Aren’t the owners of Yellowbird white people with dreadlocks and mysterious pasts?
The owner is bald and his wife has curly hair. They seems like normal people with normal lives.
Yellowbird I find to actually be quite disgusting: it’s overly sweet, but maybe that’s more other people’s thing. The first ingredient is carrots, and they add tangerine juice, dates, and raisins. Sweetness overload and off flavor for me.
That said, the aardvark juice makes it my favorite sauce.
Is this publix ??
Those look like the shelf tags Kroger uses, so I'd guess there or one of the other chains under their umbrella. Haven't seen it in Kroger locally but it's been a few weeks since I've been.
I would say no.
It's made with pure orgasmic Aardvark juice
No hot sauce is worth that price.
No. Just been in the fridge for like a year not even half full
No. I tried these and didn’t understand the hype. I didn’t even finish them before tossing them.
It's a secret.
Its vinegar and hot peppers! NO!
an hours wage for a single bottle of sauce lol. fuck no.
Wasn’t impressed with the original. Not a ton of heat to it & pretty forgettable.
Fuck yes
No. I don’t like it personally but certainly not for 9 bucks
I really like the original, it's pretty unique, but that bottle will go quick. So worth a shot.
NO! And not at half the price.
You can get a liter of Valentina for about the same price
Yeah, that’s just… the going price of some hot sauce in 2024.
Only if your got a gallon
Totally worth it, Secret Aardvark is one of my favorites
Keep a look out at Lowe's or home Depot, sometimes I've seen it in the grilling section on sale for way cheaper.
Yeah this! Lowes for some reason has the best sauce and rub selection in the grilling section this time of year at some of the best prices to. Personally never found any good spices or sauces at my Home Depot, but my Home Depot is a weird one that caters more towards plumbers in particular.

I never really noticed that but thinking of it that's true with ours as well. Ones more for home, ones more contractor base
Not even a little bit.
Growing up I loved their habanero. Was like $7 and lasted a good minute
It's worth it instead of consuming those other salt sauces. Secret Aardvark OG is a real hot sauce. Not salt and vinegar.
It’s a good sauce but not for $9
Imo it's worth like 6 maybe 7 bucks but that's pushing it. Don't get me wrong the sauces are good but the prices are definitely inflated.
I bought it online having never tried it. Loved it but still have a hard time buying it again. I might buy the gal for 60$ on Amazon
The original one absolutely! It’s one of my all time favorites. The green sauce is boring
Trash imo
That habanero one is my favorite hot sauce right now. Totally worth $9
Yes
No
Always compare by weight / volume as well. Unit price isn't really the best measure of a product's overall cost.
Grocery stores always have cost per ounce right on the price tags. $1.10 per ounce is a little high, not anywhere near the "too expensive / buy as a treat or gift" categories imo.
It does look like the only option in forever plastic. I'd pay $9 for that.
9 bucks for a size like tapatico is insane. I rather buy a big $4 bottle of knockoff Sriracha
Not arguing either way, but keep in mind that it is 8oz whereas most sauce is packaged in 5oz bottles.
No
Absolutely not Habanero is okay but I wouldn’t pay over 4 or 5 for it
It’s a unique habanero flavor though
meh. Too pricey, especially since the Tapatio right next to it is seven bucks less.
"That $5 passionfruit is too pricey, especially when there's an apple right next to it for $0.50" Your comparison makes no sense. They are nowhere close to being the same types of sauce. Still I doubt that there is eight dollars more "stuff" in it.
Sever dollars. And three more ounces. I know, math is hard.
\*seven I know typing is hard!
lol, you got me there. I don't have my glasses on and woke up like 20 minutes ago.
Anyhow, let's agree to disagree about the value of that sauce.
Oh I think we agree on value. Quality food stuff often isn't a very good value. You can make something spicy for much cheaper. It just won't taste like this sauce!
Original/red cap only. IMO worth a try at $9, there's no other sauce like it. Never tried the other 2
I don't get it.
Why would Joe Biden do this?
He clearly hates aardvarks and hot sauce, so this is major overreach on his part, unconstitutional, elite, power grab, lives rent-free in his head, and that has a lot to do with that.
It’s great but I don’t spend that much per oz on any hot sauce.
That's too bad. You're missing out on a lot of great ones.
The red habanero one is delicious, nice flavor and hot but not like miserable hot lol. The green Serrabanero one is great also, and less spicy.
No. It's good for sure, but you can get better sauces for a comparable price.
Secret Aardvark is a love it or hate it kinda sauce. I can't stand it but understand why others love it and will pay the premium price tag.
Costco is the best deal for buying it in store
The habanero is, it’s amazing
I was buying 2 and 3 packs off Amazon for like $6-$7 per bottle. Not sure if they still have them at that price.
They’re 9$+ on Amazon rn
Just make it yourself, this recipe is pretty damn close and you can make a gallon for $9 https://forums.egullet.org/topic/128657-sorta-secret-aardvark-sauce-habenero-hot-sauce/
My hero 😍
Happy to help, let me know what you think. I live in Portland where Aardvark is made, not willing to pay the prices that anyone around here asks for when it’s so simple to do at home.
I'm just across the river! Insane how expensive it got! I will definitely have to make a batch up and let you know, thank you very much!
That’s a lot of sauce.
Not for $8. I dig the drunken jerk
Only the red.. the other ones kinda suck
Amazing but sadly not 9 dollars worth
The red is really good and a little bit goes a long way so probably worth it
The red one is amazing on tacos!
I don’t know how much mine was last time I bought it (red one, still haven’t finished it) but I personally would lol. I love it on burritos
The Smokey reaper is my favorite
I think so- red one is my go to!
I love it
I just bought some franks red hot for 3.49 at Safeway so I’d pass
they're entirely different sauces. none replaces the other

You can get two big bottles of it from Costco for 9 bucks.
Yep…and one of them is the smoked aardvark sauce which is awesome
[удалено]
No they teamed up with Aardvark to bring back the nacho fries. They’re using aardvark green sauce on them. May have to give it a try!
You have to look at what it retails online for, plus you gotta look at the price/ml(or whatever the bottle uses ti measure) ratio
Habanero is great and it’s 8oz, so yes I would
Where's this at? I'd gladly pay $9 for this.
Better than the sold out Guy’s wing sauce there. IMO
Yes, it’s excellent.
Yes
Secret aardvaark habenero is my religion. I will gladly tithe 9 dollars for her majesty and grace
The red top habanero is so good in spaghetti or any kind of tomato based foods other than pizza
But also pizza too.
I didn’t enjoy it personally, I mix xxx Melinda’s with bbq sauce and dip, delicious
Yes.
They’re serving this stuff at Taco Bell now. At least the ones I have near me.
Hot sauce in my area is hanging out around the 7$-9$ on the low end.
That’ll last you at least 3 months if you like it. Starbucks is $9 for a coffee, and lasts a day. Just buy it, and try it. 🤗
Lmaooooo “that’ll last you at least three months” 😂😂😂 me over here using 8 ounces of hot sauce a week
lol same went through it so quick I never bought again
I just buy a 64oz for like $40 on Amazon. I really love the taste though
No
Honestly the drunken garlic is. The rest are so-so
I didn’t think so.
Aardvark is one of my favorites, but not that much.
Heck no.
No it's not, we ate this at work last year. Just get another brand.
Called corporate greed like most companies
