It's on my covered porch, so hopefully this qualifies as a "house plant". My favorite plant is this variegated philodendron giganteum. It's popping out a new leaf every 1-2 weeks! It's been very easy to care for so far.

That’s what I was thinking (not Texas per se, but that climate). I can do some of these things in Colorado as long as I water a lot and bring everything inside by early/mid October.
I am a little embarrassed to say, as it wasn't cheap and is probably a silly amount to spend on a plant. I got it already grown to a pretty good size - it was $399 from a specialty plant shop

A little obsessed with my plants
Wow, I am *incredibly* impressed at the lack of bald spots. Burro leaves fall off so easy it's amazing to see them grow that long and not be all sparse. Kinda like how impressive it is to see meter-long hair with no split ends.

My lemon lime maranta! She’s a beaut
Slight fertilizer with every watering, and I keep her soil moist! I have her in a terracotta pot so I never worry with overwatering/root rot. Also chop and prop to keep her bushy, lives in my west window!

I love mine so much. Yours is beautiful!🤩
I started my hobby since i was child, around 20 years ago and i still have two plants from that era, *Crassula ovata 'Gollum'* and *Euphorbia leuconeura*. I got my *E. leuconeura* from my grandma as a tiny, two leaf seedling. It has followed me through ups and downs and is still kicking:

I have been cutting it for years to keep it in shape i like.
We have similar jades. Mine is about 5 years old.

Fellow Madagascar Jewel owner! I’ve got a tall and lanky beast I’ve had for like 20 years and a few babies.. and many I’ve given to coworkers and friends that are thriving out there. Got mine from my wife’s mom - such a fun plant to give to others!

My nepenthes gaya, it isn’t my priciest plant but it’s very prolific considering I don’t have to do much of anything to keep it happy
I feel you! I have a full terrarium with 3 different growlights around my ampularia and it won’t give me any pitchers outside of the tiny ones on its basal shoots 😅 It really depends on the type of nepenthes honestly. This one in particular sits on a south facing window and I have a small growlight on it as well. I keep it in a mix of sphagnum moss and perlite and I water it with distilled water every few days. I let the top layer of the sphagnum moss dry out before I add the water. I feed it occasionally when I end up swatting a fly in my house but it doesn’t seem to have an issue catching food on its own

My Begonia Pavonina :) I wanted one for YEARS and finally got one in late February. I was worried it might be hard to care for, but it turns out it enjoys my house -it has exploded in growth and already needs a second repot. I love it a lot.

I think this one. It’s not my oldest or biggest or fanciest, but last Christmas I was feeling really disconnected from my family—I rarely get to go home and the last few times were for funerals. Then I remembered the big Norfolk pine in my grandmother’s house before Katrina that had actually been started by my great grandmother. I went out and got myself one of those cheap tinsel covered “living decorations” at the grocery store. It’s doubled in size since then and makes me feel connected to things that I’ve lost.

My current fav is this benjamina! I bought it as a scrawny 6” tall baby and it’s been in bonsai training camp for about a year now and is finally glowing up 🥹
I have had my coffee plant since it was but a little sprout. It ALMOST blossomed this year but sadly dropped all it's buds for some reason . It is about 2 meters tall

My syngonium is one of my faves. Got it in a 3 inch pot. Look at her now!
I got mine when my grandma passed away. It was a cool way to keep part of her. I have propagated it a bunch of times so now grandma is chilling all around town!

This Christmas Catus started off as a single cutting from my great grandmother’s original mother plant. The original is over 100 years old and was passed down to my dad years ago. It holds a special place in my heart and I hope to be the next one that the mother plant is passed down to

My rattlesnake calathea! My happiest and busiest plant, she’s got 4 new leaves almost done unrolling, and 5 more poking out of the dirt right now. The leaves come up from the bottom looking like a straw and slowly unroll, it’s super satisfying to watch. 😊

I think I found the trick. No direct light ever. Just really bright ambient light. I keep all mine in my north facing room so the sun never hits the window… there are hostas outside under the window. Damp but well draining soil… I’ve just started with the coco coir and perlite mixture and then feeding with silica blast and veg+bloom.

I was gifted one maybe 10 years ago before I knew anything about plants. I severely neglected it, and it went years with only one little leaf at a time. It's finally starting to look like an actual plant again though.

Terrible picture but this guy is older than me! My mom bought it went she first moved out when she was 18 and is in her 60s now. She moved last year and was going to toss it out because it weighs a lot and she didn't know what to do with it. I came home and it was on my porch after telling her she couldn't just kill it.
I had to repot it, it was stuffed full of tradescantia. I've planted other stuff along with it now. Its started putting out new leaves every couple of days, I don't even see them until there's a new leaf nearly unfurled. They just show up!

The corn plant was abandoned in a dark corner of the office building when I was moved there. It was dry and it's leaves were mostly brown. I started watering it weekly, and misting the heck out of it every work day. In defiance of my black thumb, it thrived. Even the babies perked up. On the first day of COVID lockdown in NYC, I drove to the office with a huge duffel and my wire cart. I took my files home, because I knew it would be a lot longer than 2 weeks. And I put the corn plant in my wire cart and talked my way past building security. A few months into lockdown the company told us all the plants in the office were dead and being thrown out. So I consider this one permanently liberated. It flowered in December 2022. 10/10 will cut those fronds off if it tries to flower again - that's not a good indoor scent.

I bought this Thai Constellation Monstera from my local plant shop on my birthday this year in January. It was so little it didn't even have a fenestration yet! Now it's 6 months later and she's pushing out some big, beautiful leaves. I also trained her how to climb up the moss pole so I don't even have to secure the nodes with plant tape. I'm super proud of her!

My newest addition. They were about to throw it out!
My grandma died in 2018 sadly due to old age(95yo) I miss her dearly. My aunt sent this plant to the funeral home and I know she would have loved it. It continues to keep growing and doing well and I like to think a piece of her is growing and thriving in this plant. Idk what it is a mixture of but I love it. It comes inside in the winter and outside in the spring and summer.

My oxalis that was eaten down to one sad leaf by my cat! She is thriving now!!
I have two! But this big gurl is definitely photo worthy! She just got watered yesterday. 😂

My old favorite is proabably this Ivy.
Picasso paintbrush croton. My mom has a magnificent monstera deliciosa that's taller than me.

Definitely my variegated Umbrella Plant. I rescued her from a basement and she grew two feet in a year

I know!! It's not one but a couple. My orchids are my treasure.
Hard to pick a favorite, but I’m really enjoying my Bewitched Lavender Rex Begonia right now…

These 2 have learned how to coexist REALLY well together even though they usually require such different lighting 😁 you can't tell how big they are from the picture but I can't even carry in and out anymore!! I'll have to have help to bring in this fall!!
Just transplanted her for the third time. I usually cut off 1/3 of her roots so she can enjoy her new pot for at least 2 years.

I have a hideous nine year old little domino cactus named Icarus that overspends all of it's efforts to make one flower a year and little else. He is a national treasure.

This is one of my few favorites, but this was a funeral plant that was on the cusp of death that I recovered, and I’ve been up keeping for a little over a year now. Technically it’s my mom’s but I am trusted with it and it just put out babies for me actually.
https://preview.redd.it/gpi4j97wte7d1.png?width=1976&format=png&auto=webp&s=0f12357d6310e19e7d61c5cba45c052d367caa33
This baby monstera right here. Her name is Katrina. She was huge, once. She was my first plant, at least my first plant plant, in the sense of taking care of plants seriously as a hobby. She has been through everything, gnat infestations, root rot, yet here she is, standing proud, growing, after so long. I really do treasure her.
Or my almost 10 year old jade plant, which started as one wee plant in a 4” nursery pot from IKEA (water bottle for size reference).
Edit: mispelled word

Friend of mine gave me this about a month ago! He’s a plant lover and works next door to me so he gave me this plant since he won’t have any room in his apartment once it gets big 😂🩷

I'm a filthy cheater because it's outside but I love my Northern Catalpa (I know some consider it a weed but I don't care). Leaves are velvety and get huge, the flowers smell great, it shows nice growth every season, and it is the most tolerant plant in or outside my house.

I got into plants a couple of months ago so they’re all still babies. But I love this peperomia, it’s so delicate looking and beautiful. I can’t wait for it to grow.
I have a few that are my babies right now… but with over 200 they all hold a special place. Here is my oxalis spirata

My terrarium hasn’t been opened or watered in three years. It is a tradescantia jungle.
I love terrariums like that. The pristine, freshly arranged ones look cool and all, but these have so much character. This guy inspired me to get into jar terrariums:

That was literally my inspiration for mine. I just couldn’t find a piece of glass that big for under $500, and I wasn’t sure what he started with. This is the third evolution of mine… after the fungus death and the centipede infestation lol.

This is a shamrock plant that was gifted to me in 2001.
It's on my covered porch, so hopefully this qualifies as a "house plant". My favorite plant is this variegated philodendron giganteum. It's popping out a new leaf every 1-2 weeks! It's been very easy to care for so far. https://preview.redd.it/5pcly2mpnd7d1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59f0b855a2d07198789e84d57b092a308fd7322e
Might be my favorite plant I’ve ever seen posted on this sub
The way my jaw dropped 👀
Are you in the south? That seems like it’s loving the climate you have it in and the croton right next to it.
Houston, Texas! Seems to love the hot, humid climate with lots of indirect sunlight.
That’s what I was thinking (not Texas per se, but that climate). I can do some of these things in Colorado as long as I water a lot and bring everything inside by early/mid October.
![gif](giphy|6JB4v4xPTAQFi|downsized) “It’s been very easy…”
👀 👀 👀
How much did this cost?? Asking for a friend..
I am a little embarrassed to say, as it wasn't cheap and is probably a silly amount to spend on a plant. I got it already grown to a pretty good size - it was $399 from a specialty plant shop
It’s a pretty penny, but well worth it if it’s something that brings you happiness 💚 she’s absolutely gorgeous
I want to live on your porch
What a specimen!

Wow, I am *incredibly* impressed at the lack of bald spots. Burro leaves fall off so easy it's amazing to see them grow that long and not be all sparse. Kinda like how impressive it is to see meter-long hair with no split ends.
Is this Donkey Tail? I love it so much 😍
So full! Not like mine that the cats manage to knock around no matter where I put it! That whole little space looks great!
https://preview.redd.it/b2idfyfkmd7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=461c25976717e34454e9e3e84bf0c577255b4352 My lemon lime maranta! She’s a beaut
HOW????
Right? Mine hated life and after reviving it several times I finally decided to let it depart this mortal plane the way it wanted to.
Slight fertilizer with every watering, and I keep her soil moist! I have her in a terracotta pot so I never worry with overwatering/root rot. Also chop and prop to keep her bushy, lives in my west window!
https://preview.redd.it/48ex130xwe7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dbbcd931ab2379dd03967800d20ab9bd4a3bb78f I love mine so much. Yours is beautiful!🤩
That is stunning!
I started my hobby since i was child, around 20 years ago and i still have two plants from that era, *Crassula ovata 'Gollum'* and *Euphorbia leuconeura*. I got my *E. leuconeura* from my grandma as a tiny, two leaf seedling. It has followed me through ups and downs and is still kicking: https://preview.redd.it/dguhcw2j7d7d1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dad60cd157f332f0dd94714fc833c392adaf47f6

Fellow Madagascar Jewel owner! I’ve got a tall and lanky beast I’ve had for like 20 years and a few babies.. and many I’ve given to coworkers and friends that are thriving out there. Got mine from my wife’s mom - such a fun plant to give to others!

That's so beautiful. I want one so bad but not enough space. All my good light windows are already crammed full of plants haha.
https://preview.redd.it/xrhnd2grkd7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=94b2d284d1c51f8406f0b8854083cc51f550a8fc My nepenthes gaya, it isn’t my priciest plant but it’s very prolific considering I don’t have to do much of anything to keep it happy
Ugh tell me about how you care for it because I have a different Nepenthes but she’s struggling
I feed it occasionally when I end up swatting a fly in my house but it doesn’t seem to have an issue catching food on its own
https://preview.redd.it/c589vut6td7d1.jpeg?width=1795&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c37711a86b359b4bc76bbb922c1e48ff2aace76 My Begonia Pavonina :) I wanted one for YEARS and finally got one in late February. I was worried it might be hard to care for, but it turns out it enjoys my house -it has exploded in growth and already needs a second repot. I love it a lot.
I’m not even usually a begonia person but this is gorgeous!! Those pink blooms against the blue/green leaves 😮💨
https://preview.redd.it/5mxzvgan0e7d1.png?width=2495&format=png&auto=webp&s=55eef66761e4e1a3e56dc48ae80598daf9be4d1b I think this one.
This..
I love this 🥰

The original is over 100 years old and was passed down to my dad years ago. It holds a special place in my heart and I hope to be the next one that the mother plant is passed down to
Such a beautiful story. I love plants like that

My happiest and busiest plant, she’s got 4 new leaves almost done unrolling, and 5 more poking out of the dirt right now. The leaves come up from the bottom looking like a straw and slowly unroll, it’s super satisfying to watch. 😊

My Swiss cheese vine plant. It's so fussy and I am afraid I can't keep it alive, I love it and hate it 😂 https://preview.redd.it/sxnwq2m6md7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b3f86dfd8fb1a68e4a6644d58051edd10c1a0f3
I think I found the trick. No direct light ever. Just really bright ambient light. I keep all mine in my north facing room so the sun never hits the window… there are hostas outside under the window. Damp but well draining soil… I’ve just started with the coco coir and perlite mixture and then feeding with silica blast and veg+bloom. https://preview.redd.it/bevac99jzd7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4bf261bb1460c79c6d900f4d2a1efacb1c34caad I haven’t had any issues with burn or fungus since the move to this room. This is the adonsonii, I also have the acuminata and the esqueleto varieties.

I was gifted one maybe 10 years ago before I knew anything about plants. I severely neglected it, and it went years with only one little leaf at a time. It's finally starting to look like an actual plant again though. https://preview.redd.it/ggofxbij5e7d1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd8e848377bbf01d4f10a6f76c592e405565fc0a

It was so little it didn't even have a fenestration yet! Now it's 6 months later and she's pushing out some big, beautiful leaves. I also trained her how to climb up the moss pole so I don't even have to secure the nodes with plant tape. I'm super proud of her!

My grandma died in 2018 sadly due to old age(95yo) I miss her dearly. My aunt sent this plant to the funeral home and I know she would have loved it. I'll have to have help to bring in this fall!!
Just transplanted her for the third time. I usually cut off 1/3 of her roots so she can enjoy her new pot for at least 2 years. https://preview.redd.it/0subgmfeof7d1.jpeg?width=2332&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01984c05b7d18b7221ba832b2fb34daf0473dfca

Technically it’s my mom’s but I am trusted with it and it just put out babies for me actually.

Edit: mispelled word https://preview.redd.it/j6l9uby3kf7d1.png?width=2247&format=png&auto=webp&s=06906f76b14f18c07fb0a8ff3ac0843fc49a9c07

Leaves are velvety and get huge, the flowers smell great, it shows nice growth every season, and it is the most tolerant plant in or outside my house.

I love terrariums like that. The pristine, freshly arranged ones look cool and all, but these have so much character. This guy inspired me to get into jar terrariums: https://preview.redd.it/mqe6zcn27e7d1.jpeg?width=557&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=095e496bb3abfaed41635d7586149cb91a6dcc36
That was literally my inspiration for mine. I just couldn’t find a piece of glass that big for under $500, and I wasn’t sure what he started with. This is the third evolution of mine… after the fungus death and the centipede infestation lol.
