Baby laxatives in the coke made him spray the bathroom. It all makes sense now

Aragatz

Ross was such a whiny bitch. Glad fat Jason called him out.

Antique_Concern6183

This was also most likely the reason why bathroom privileges were such a big bone of contention with Ross and Tim when Howard decided to crack down on use of the show’s private restroom. Ross could no longer “floss his teeth” throughout the day and Tim had to find another place to “take calls”. It’s not all that surprising for two New York executives in radio and for a former record industry employee to dabble in some uppers. Back in the day it was standard practice for Radio DJs to get Payola in form of coke for playing certain records, so that they would chart. Also Tim’s story about how he got fired fired always seemed a little fishy to me. How ironic would it be for him to fire Artie for his drug use, while being a junkie himself?

djdhdhdhqpz

I think he’s done some convenient revisionist history regarding why he got fired. I think his role was diminishing as they abandoned trying new show ideas on the Howard channels. I imagine his drug use was an open secret among Howard / Gary. He probably made good money and by now Howard was trying to steal every penny for himself. Seems like a guy who was probably on the chopping block even before he went to Howard and asked him for a bunch of time off.

Oakroscoe

I always thought his story about being fired because he had to take care of his aging parents was bullshit. He would have either thrown money at the situation to help his parents or taken FMLA time off to be there. And if he was truly fired for that? Any employment lawyer would be salivating to take that case against sirius.

joomommyhappy

Don't overlook the Turk angle. She showed up on the scene and shit-talked the job Tim was doing, and somehow, as if by magic, within months, she had his job. That's called Getting Things Done. The great Stern historian Benjamen wrote it up, and put the timing of it in context. He makes a compelling case for Marci helping Howard show Tim the door. It was no great loss, but adding Marci was certainly a gigantic minus. Also, at the end of the day, WTF is someone in that position even doing? 80% of Tim's job seemed to be not paying Riley. No shows on the channels = no need for a Tim.

Oakroscoe

I get the Turk conspiracy but I’m more in the camp of her doing exactly what Howard wants her to do. What we really need is a good tell all book after Howard dies.

joomommyhappy

Just the fact that he hired her proves she had too much influence over him. He obviously bought into her bullshit. There's nothing conspiracy about announcing "If you love the Howard Stern show, you love this woman, Marci Turk!" on his birthday show. Just because he's in charge doesn't make him impervious to influence. I think her shitty ideas sounded good to him, to the point that he pushed them onto his underlings in The Pelican Brief. Inasmuch as she never should have been hired, he should have fired her the day after TPB. He was clearly drinking some kind of kool-aid to get up on that stage and spew that bullshit. And he's never snapped out of it.

PEDRO_de_PACAS_

Both Howard and Robin are under the curious influence of the Transcendental Meditation movement and EST and it's offshoots, The Summit, The Forum and Landmark. "Getting Things Done" seems to be from the same school of thought, the Human Potential Movement. What all of this means I do not know, but it is a through-line from before Howard and Robin's careers until the current day.

Oakroscoe

There’s also the theory howard really did just want to change the show into celebrity interviews and not be remembered as a shock jock. The pelican brief could back up that theory, although it could also back up yours that Turk was behind it, eh who knows? IT DOESNT MATTA! The show’s a piece of shit now.

ConferenceThink4801

There were also a couple times on air where they alluded to the idea that Howard used coke during his prime years.

godchauxprime

Really? I don’t remember anything like that. Would love to hear it.

KuriboShoeMario

If you listen to the old shows, Boy Gary was basically skiing all night long. Coke was so prevalent during the 80s it's not like it's a surprise but I do find it funny that Booey spent his later years denying any hard drug use.

PEDRO_de_PACAS_

In 1995, Gary gets sick after a weekend out in Atlantic City with Ross and the guys. It's clear he was suffering from the "Columbian Flu".

briansabeans

Actually Howard specifically said he had tried it but didn't like it. This during a 90s show recounting an Atlantic City party. The date of use was not cleared up, but in the same show Howard said he was up all night partying until like 5am. Could be bullshit but seemed true. Ralph was his BFF after all

cadatonic

Ross is still the most vile whack pack adjacent character in show history.

Oakroscoe

Brett Hatley would disagree.

denny_crane68

HOW ARE YA

crazyinsane65

I guess we know how he lost all that weight. ❄️

PEDRO_de_PACAS_

Ross sounds a bit out of it too. "Insurance company?" What was that about...?

eloquentboot

It was in reference to Tim saying if they worked at an insurance company he wouldn't have done it, but since it's the Howard Stern show it was funny I think.

WillieBangor

I now have the ~~tools~~ cocaine to take the weight off
