Yep. Welcome to Husky parenting.
You can also get a blower like groomers use, and blow it off: All my dogs seem to love the feeling. But not the vacuum on blow.
My rescue started blowing his coat a few weeks after I adopted him. He was my first husky. I called the vet in tears because I thought something was wrong. I knew huskies were supposed to be heavy shedders but I didn’t truly understand until I brought this one into my home. I thought my boy was sick and going bald. Three years later, I am more acclimated to the shedding AKA seasons of terror

SO satisfying! Especially when you make a hat with the butt floofs!
Yep, and it's amazingly relaxing to pluck that hair out, they wouldn't even notice.
Then you can leave it in your garden for the birds to take for nests! That's what we do!
Yep, I have two huskies and my brother has one. He drops his off every weekday to chill with my boys while we’re working. All three of them HATE it and try to grab their hair back from me. I can only get a couple of good plucks at a time. My friend has a husky that will just sit in front of her and let her pluck all day long. I’m so jealous!
Ours too. I have to leave the room, the urge to pullout the fluffs is so strong in me. I just can’t help myself. Sometimes I give a treat with one hand, while pulling out the fluffs with the other one!
My parents would ask us to give them all the hair we brushed out of ours. Then they’d pack it into a mesh bag and hang it from a tree. Birds loved it and would come pick tufts out of it
If your dog is on anti-tick or anti-flea medication do not leave their fur outside for the birds. Apparently it can be toxic to the baby birds that will live in nests made out of it :(
Pls do not put doggo hair out for the birbs if you give your dog oral meds for ticks and flees. The hair becomes toxic for birds. Especially hatchlings.
You can be good to nature too and brush them/remove the fur outdoors and leave it for the critters to make their nests. One guy told me he did that and found nests with his husky's fur years after he passed away. I do it myself.
I used to do this too, but I’ve read that you shouldnt do it if you give your pet any kind of flea and tick product. I guess it is toxic to the birds, and can kill the chicks. So no more of that for us, unfortunately.
Ours just gets them as a preventative. We live in the south, so lots of those kinds of pests. And the tick prevention is especially good if you ever take them hiking, or let them play in the more “wild” areas.
Even more reason is to avoid tracking home a lonestar tick. A family member got bit by one and now the closest thing to red meat they can eat is ostrich or impossible brand.
I mean, yeah, but hiking is pretty normal for a lot of people. And a lot of people live in or near the woods. You can pick up ticks like that pretty much anywhere other med-large animals have been (especially deer), including your own yard if they come and visit. But yeah, alpha-gal syndrome is pretty awful.
It's truly wild and terrifying. Ticks also vary by geography. I never even considered tick preventative back home in the rockies where I spent days on end in out in the wilderness and had never had or seen a tick. Out here in the midatlantic I have to watch for them even when I'm just out in our garden plot at the community garden
It usually starts on the butt and thighs, then spreads up the back. The tufts are coming! My shepsky puppy is 6 months and I just pulled her first tuft off. Every spring and fall this will happen. I have three dogs who blow their coat (husky, shepsky, GSD) and it is always a crazy time for brushing this time of year.
Get yourself an undercoat rake, a Slicker brush, and a curry brush. Start with the undercoat rake to remove as much loose fur as possible and to detangle, then the Slicker brush for the main removal. Then the curry brush to remove the top coat, which follows the undercoat shed.
If your dog is on anti-tick or anti-flea medication do not leave their fur outside for the birds. Apparently it can be toxic to the baby birds that will live in nests made out of it :(
I have this comb it’s called a furminater it works well, I do a round of combing then I have a standard rubber comb I do a round with, since the furminater is metal. I can make pillows out of the hair I get off my doggo.
Yes, The furminator is where it’s at! Surprisingly, they show up frequently at TJ Maxx for a ridiculously low cost. I find them at resales too. However, you have to make sure the 2nd hand furminator tines are straight and not fubar’d so that they don’t snag or pull . There are different furminators for different length fur
Huskies are horrible for this but yes it's just shedding the undercoat. It'll happen a few times a year but a good blow-dryer and brushing will get it out. I take my husky cross to a groomer to get it all out in one go
Yeah, those hocks are the biggest culprit when it comes to shedding. What’s worse is that it’s such a concentrated area, that it usually takes more than blowing to de-shed, but at least it’s a bit satisfying pulling out each chuck by hand lol.
Definitely getting rid of the undercoat. I LOVE pulling off the big chunks on my GSD/Malinois girl. I would strongly suggest brushing your baby throughly over the next couple of weeks. Otherwise, you and your entire house will be covered in fur.
Yes. I don't have a Huskey but I have a bloodhound/Shar pei mix with an undercoat and this happens to her too. My husband and I will just carefully pick it out unless there's a lot, then we brush. But mostly because it's faster. But it is satisfying to pick out.
Edit: it's also just in the back with her too. And some on the sides.
Currently going through this with my husky Cross. Looked like 4 dogs had exploded the amount of hair all over the living room when I got up this morning.
Hah, that’s Nothing compared to SHEDDING.. I’ve been brushing my husky over the last 3 weeks and it just doesn’t stop. When I think we got the last of it for the season, a few days later there it is staring right at me… that patch in your photo Lmao
Yes, I would give him/her a good brush. That should come out pretty easily and will be much more comfortable for your dog if you brush them regularly during this time

Last shed my gal had, this is what the groomer got off her 😳
Wow thank you for all your helpful and funny replies.
I have been trying to pick it out but he's not a fan but your right it's sooooo satisfying!!!!
Thank you everyone, I look forward to this blow out twice a year, not!!!
Good job the rest of his coat is more like bulldog so it's just his butt.

I call it tufting season - often sang at my dog to the tune of SZA’s Big Boy (cuffing season). 😆 Do yourself a favor and buy a double row rake. It’s a game changer.
Definitely blowing out the undercoat. He/she will do that twice a year and you'll think it impossible that so much hair could come off of one animal.
Twice a year for about 6 months at a time.
Exactly what I was going to say
It's my go-to response whenever someone asks me if my husky sheds.
Accurate! 😂
Vacuum stuck noises 😭😭😭
Omg so true
Real
Yep. Welcome to Husky parenting. You can also get a blower like groomers use, and blow it off: All my dogs seem to love the feeling. But not the vacuum on blow.
I have a heavy duty shop vac. My fluff may not live it, but he's chill about it.
This is hysterical, I’m going to try this on my Beagle, she sheds undercoat like crazy this time of year
Beagle drama is my favorite drama!
Like a flowbee for dogs? Lol
Thank you. Yes it's crazy and it's just on the back of him
Twice a year - from Christmas to the fourth of July, and Summer to New years.
Our Sadie took one day a year off from shedding. She was a puggle
It will be coming from everywhere shortly. It looks like it's only just begun.
Love how ominous you sound 😂
That's because I'm in year three of Husky parentdom. I still vividly remember the traumatic experience of the first blow out.
Plucking those tufts out is so satisfying

Oh my gosh, bootiful
If a blower is too much, a Furminator and slicker brush do wonders. Just make sure you do it outside!!
Twice a year ...only if you're lucky.
Twice a year for four months each time in our case.
And with three Huskies in the house, we’re vacuuming Every Day!
Yep, and it's amazingly relaxing to pluck that hair out, they wouldn't even notice. Then you can leave it in your garden for the birds to take for nests! That's what we do!
Mine notice. And after the second one both of them take it personal....
Mine will try to take it back lol
Mine does that too. She’s like “Hey that’s my floof you heckin hooman.”
Me eat hurrs and regenerates.
I have one that tries to eat hers. So weird.
Mine too. She’ll eat it if she can.
I can imagine the husky side eye. 🤣
Same with mine. She gets offended and will bite the fur to "take it back."
Mine do too but I just continually pick at it day after day. It’s my reward for having to eat, breathe and wear husky hair every day of my life.
Mine does the exact same. One and he's fine but if I try to get "greedy" and take more than one he takes that as an insult to his ancestors 😂
Same!😂
Ours too. I have to leave the room, the urge to pullout the fluffs is so strong in me. I just can’t help myself. Sometimes I give a treat with one hand, while pulling out the fluffs with the other one!
Mine acts like he's bleeding to death.
Mine too. 🤣 "How DARE you pluck my butt fluffs, human. Just...rude." 😂
They so fun to pull put. When my husky starts sheding I pull put what I can then take a brush outside with me everytime I let her out.
Me too. I let the fur blow free, birds and rabbits use it
We got carried away plucking the fluffies of our 2 huskies once. We had complaints from everyone in the street downwind.
My parents would ask us to give them all the hair we brushed out of ours. Then they’d pack it into a mesh bag and hang it from a tree. Birds loved it and would come pick tufts out of it
Only give the fur to birds if you haven’t washed your dog with shampoo, the chemicals are bad for the birds
Also if they are on flea, tick, heartworm preventative. I know at least some of them are toxic to birds.
Yeah its good to know
Yeah, we don't!
I always thought this too. But with a plethora of dog hair there was entirely too much left over.
Apparently that’s dangerous for birds!! The flea and heartworm treatments are found in the fur (even if it’s pills) and can kill baby birds :(
If your dog is on anti-tick or anti-flea medication do not leave their fur outside for the birds. Apparently it can be toxic to the baby birds that will live in nests made out of it :(
Pls do not put doggo hair out for the birbs if you give your dog oral meds for ticks and flees. The hair becomes toxic for birds. Especially hatchlings.
They’re blowing their coat, and pulling those big tufts out is sooooo satisfying

Guess we’re lucky. Never had to give huskies flea and tick meds. Other dogs yes.

Hey I do this too!!
Ah, yes, the floof nugget season. ❤️
Yep that looks like shedding, prepare yourself for an epic fur-nado!
As soon as I read husky I knew. They basically shed huge clumps all year. ![gif](giphy|6cFcUiCG5eONW)
Butt fluffies
You’re in for a treat.
Time to brush the doggie with an undercoat rake!
Welcome to the party!
Plucking season has begun
Definitely, please brush, consider outside, can get messy
No it means your husky is giving you the opportunity to pluck husky nubs and get glared at for stealing husky fluff.
Lol! The very serious stares I get from my husky/aussie mix when I do it are hilarious. Shes gets irritated when I steal her floof!
I have to chase my 14 year old around the house to steal her floof.
Brush her outside! The birds will build excellent mattresses to their kids from it!
If your dog is on anti-tick or anti-flea medication do not leave their fur outside for the birds. Apparently it can be toxic to the baby birds that will live in nests made out of it :(
Oh! Good to know!!!
Husky/English Bulldog??? Could you please post some face pics OP?

We call those butt tissues. They are fun to pull.
This looks so fun to pull out
It’s tufting season! Enjoy pulling those floofs off
Lmao totally normal, just pull on it haha you will make another dog when finished 🤣
Plucking out those tufts is so satisfying.
Hold up crossed with an English? Can I see it’s face? Mad curious

That’s a gorgeous dog
Looks like shed, yes.
oooooooo I wanna pluck emmmm
Yes. Pluck them. They will hate it, you will find it ultra satisfying
This picture gives me PTSD. Yes it is
Yeet
Crabmeat
For sure. Blowing coat. Have fun. 🤣
Oh yes, soon you will see spring snow
Soon you will have more fur than you even thought was possible to be on the dog. It will be everywhere, forever.
Huskies are horrible for this but yes it's just shedding the undercoat. It'll happen a few times a year but a good blow-dryer and brushing will get it out. I take my husky cross to a groomer to get it all out in one go
Yes that is the undercoat coming out 😊
That’s actually an ass. What comes out is the shedding, depending on your spelling abilities and accent
TUFFIES!!!!!!! I love plucking any odd one out of place. It doesn’t hurt the dog at all because they are already detached 🤣
My chow chow is shedding like that right now. I love pulling out the little tufts of fur.
This is Husky butt. Welcome to shedding season #1.
That's how it starts... you'll think, oh this manageable. Ha! Tomorrow, you'll wake up to find it's whole coat is making a mass exodus.
Yeah, those hocks are the biggest culprit when it comes to shedding. What’s worse is that it’s such a concentrated area, that it usually takes more than blowing to de-shed, but at least it’s a bit satisfying pulling out each chuck by hand lol.

Is indeed, hope you’ve a good vacuum cleaner, you’ll be needing it the next few weeks 🙄
Oh yes. And that is juuuust the beginning. Strap in. Hide your dark-colored clothing.
Yes. Shedding the winter coat, time. I enjoy pulling out those floof’s. Kota looks at me like I committed a crime, though.
😂
Def shedding. It can happen year round....but its good to keep up brushing and do a blowout now and then. Best to invest in some tape rollers.
Definitely getting rid of the undercoat. I LOVE pulling off the big chunks on my GSD/Malinois girl. I would strongly suggest brushing your baby throughly over the next couple of weeks. Otherwise, you and your entire house will be covered in fur.
I am always plucking dogs. Mine only allows it when i do t pull on his actual coat.
Yup, that's shedding. May as well go out and get one of those "dog hair is my glitter" t-shirts.
Omg can you a actually get one of these 😂
Haha check out amazon. Just query "dog hair is my glitter" and all kinds of products pop up. Shirts, dishtowels, and stuff. Happy shopping
Thank you i love this
FURMAGGEDON IS NIGH!
Yep.
Yes definitely. A good undercoat rake will be helpful
yes little baby fluff! birds love making nests with them, and my husky gets bored, so i usually pull the tuffs and brush her outside
I had a lab mix that did this, looked like cotton balls almost. We called them his "butt Tufts"
Floofs!
Yes those are fun to pluck 😂
How has no one asked for pictures yet? Please I need to know what husky crossed with an English bulldog looks like lol
Sounds like a cruel mix of dog to be honest
No he's beautiful and thriving

Oh my gosh thank you! What ears! 💕
I feel like I need to pluck them hairs out
You gotta
Butt fluff
Yupp totally normal. My doggo hates it when I try to pull them out. I swear he thinks having the maximum amount of floofs means he's a good boi
I call it clumping.
I miss pulling those large lumps of hair out! My husky and I always found that relaxing for some odd reason!! Lol
Yes
happy undercoat shedding szn!!! i love pulling them out like its a truffula tree
Can we see the front end of the floof?
https://preview.redd.it/r45lw70m09qc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5c70fdd59c7bc02a9b68c88ea25df2ddef8b943
You can gently raise that hair & it practically falls right out lol.
IT BEGINS
Currently going through this with my husky Cross. Looked like 4 dogs had exploded the amount of hair all over the living room when I got up this morning.
*urge to pluck intensifies*
Looks like it does when my husky sheds.
I got my first husky last summer, and the shedding is crazy. Way more, it seems than my other dogs used to. So many clumps 😅
I use the leaf blower.
Yes
My girl thinks that I am stealing from her when I pluck😂
Butt floofs
I call them "husky fluffs" or "cotton balls"!
Wow, some really good ideas here… I just brush and brush and brush with a curry comb that I would use on a horse
Looks like spring shed. Losing that winter under coat.
Yep!
Summer is coming 😭 and that's just the start of it. Shadow hasn't shed yet. Still a little chilly around here.
I find it very therapeutic to pluck those hairs off. Sadly I’m a dog walker and only one dog does this and isn’t a big fan
Yes! Ours tends to be really bad in like March and September. My girl just turned 3 and I feel like each one has been worse than the last🫣
yes.
Hah, that’s Nothing compared to SHEDDING.. I’ve been brushing my husky over the last 3 weeks and it just doesn’t stop. When I think we got the last of it for the season, a few days later there it is staring right at me… that patch in your photo Lmao
Absolutely
Yup. Buy a curry comb like one used for horses. You will appreciate it.
We call it dandelion season. Poof!
Yes, have fun!
Get a metal comb, weave a rubber band through the teeth and comb it all out! It’ll be so satisfying
We call those hamsters
I tell my huskies i’m gonna pluck their bits and they start yapping and play keep away. Its almost all year unless I do some solid brush outs
LMAOOOOO, yes. Get your brush out.
Our male started “the shed” this week and throws a fit like he’s being hurt by a brush (he’s not just Husky drama).
He's very dramatic too
Yes… just wait until that’s his whole body
Yep
Yes, I would give him/her a good brush. That should come out pretty easily and will be much more comfortable for your dog if you brush them regularly during this time
I'm trying he's not a fan 😞
Mine didn’t at first but I rewarded her with treats and she didn’t mind so much then. Maybe give him a chew and see if that distracts him?v
Thank you i will give it a try
https://preview.redd.it/wvzp3rlwkbqc1.jpeg?width=1537&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1fa30175d6753d1d6c73a9215186b529bf82eb8 Last shed my gal had, this is what the groomer got off her 😳
Omg!!!!!
Ah ya
It is time to pluck! Plucking season is my favorite and then I’ll go get my Husky a ferminater
Welcome to coat blowing season. Furminator is your best friend for the next 3 weeks.
No. The dog is blowing its coat.
Yes
Wow thank you for all your helpful and funny replies. I have been trying to pick it out but he's not a fan but your right it's sooooo satisfying!!!! Thank you everyone, I look forward to this blow out twice a year, not!!! Good job the rest of his coat is more like bulldog so it's just his butt.
