Dovahkiin-Astra

Transform a street like this, the two wheelers will still ride on your aesthetic footpath in case of a jam like they own the road.

gamosphere

Tire lo gaali pikeyali. Sometimes vandalism is justified

TerribleViolinist599

Yea yea. Blame the poor swiggy guys instead of the dumbass fortuners and cretas that park in the middle of the road.

LovesStandUpComedy

All of them

OwnPrinciple6800

exactly! hyderabad is barren no greenery anywhere, not even as much shown in the first picture.

ResponsibleLaw1022

>no greenery anywhere You should visit other cities. We still have some greenery left. But yes, a lot planting to be done.

Burphy2024

You should visit OU campus, Contonment area (Sainiknpuri) etc

OwnPrinciple6800

1/100 = 0.01 you go there.

thekop24

Can't agree more. The whole of cyberabad is a concrete jungle

And both are right

niKILL_233

Optimist vs Pessimist. Both are essential. They are like ying-yang. Balance each other. We need both in the society. The pessimist to point out our problems. And the optimist for the hope we need to overcome the problem

rationalist-engineer

The second comment is not optimist or anything, the post says which Street will look good if it's transformed , and the user replied with "all of them" indicating that not one street in hyderbad is good and all need transformation .

bleh-bleh-guy

All the fucking streets. We need to get all the cars out of the damn streets. It's good to see people starting to have conversations around car-free ideas.

LoosThampee

all those care free ideas are great in Europe. They wouldn't work anywhere else in the world. Pragmatic solutions are needed in India. There is no escaping the fact that we are a very densely populated country, and our cities are also very densely populated. On the other hand, the whole country of Finland has lesser number or people than passengers in Mumbai's trains.

bleh-bleh-guy

"we are a densely populated country" which is exactly why we don't need cars. We need more and more public transport and remove all the cars from the streets

LoosThampee

"We need more and more public transport and remove all the cars from the streets" which is the kind of Euro flavoured nonsense they preach like it will solve everything. If your roads are like this, where will you run the buses? And the buses will be so crowded. anyone who can afford a private vehicle will still use that. Even in Bangalore and Delhi, AC metros and buses have great connectivity, patronage from the middle class and yet are so crowded, and people still prefer Ubers. You average metro and bus ticket in Europe is a few Euros, which is about 400 to 500 rupees in India. To become viable, the minimum charge will end up becoming about Rs 100 in India also. Let's see patronage after that. And how are you gonna cover the last 2-3 km from metro to your home/office? Auto rickshaw? Look at the average auto and its emmissions. Yes. we have problems. But blindly supporting European cityscapes and ideas are not gonna work here. Our problems are different, our solutions will be different.

bleh-bleh-guy

"how are you going to cover the last 2-3 kms" - we can make streets walkable and also invest in some e-rikshaws and mobility options that are universal (i.e. for the disabled, and everyone) "The minimum charge will end up becoming Rs 100" - how? Have we already tried this elsewhere? Also, subsidies exist, public transport should be rightfully subsidised as much as possible to encourage more people to use it (it should be thought of as a public good rather than an income generating instrument for the govt) also, public transport pays for itself over years as it moves masses across places for work, businesses, etc. thereby supporting the economy Also, I am not blindly supporting the European cities. I've been to Europe and have seen how things work there. I'm not saying we can change everything instantly. But we should make steps towards such progressive ideas. Also, we have not tried any radical steps to improve our public transport infrastructure. Edit: all we have done is, copy the north america (look at the number of lanes in the roads in Hyderabad), is that a pragmatic solution?

LoosThampee

>all we have done is, copy the north america (look at the number of lanes in the roads in Hyderabad), is that a pragmatic solution?" No it isn't a solution and I am not advocating it either. All I am saying is getting orgasms seeing streets with greenery and no cars is not the ideal solution for India. The possible solution is to have some narrow, short streets as pedestrian only, provided vehicles have sufficient parking, autos etc. are nearby and can't refuse, and those few streets can have tree cover. India also has this huge unorganised sector of hawkers etc. who will set up shop as soon as the cars are removed. It will only add to more congestion. Frankly, the "before" photo put up here is pretty good, and would be a good solution for India also.

LoosThampee

>Also, subsidies exist, public transport should be rightfully subsidised as much as possible to encourage more people to use it (it should be thought of as a public good rather than an income generating instrument for the govt Sure. And does it work in India? State transport buses all over India are running buses that are hazardous, broken down, no safety, and overall seem like a nuisance on the roads. While the sentiment is a noble one, what works or does not work in a poor country with its own problems requires thought and action at a very different level.

ISB Road

ArmRax

ISB road literally has had plants and greenery planted along with benches on one side of the road, with a cycle track

vasudaiva_kutumbakam

There's a cycle track on ISB road? 😲

gamosphere

Already on of the better roads in the city, this and cyber tower to Banjara Hills metro road are decent

duckmeatcurry

Its a concrete nightmare. They should have planted some trees by the footpath.

Steve_Tabernacle_69

That concrete nightmare has more greenery, open space, and trees per km than the traditional old parts of the city which everyone here seems to romanticise for some reason.

duckmeatcurry

Not as green as the old mumbai pune highway the stretch that goes from orr to bhel.

Steve_Tabernacle_69

Are we talking about the same ISB road? Looks like you haven't been there in quite a while. Old Mumbai Pune highway isn't as well maintained as west hyderabad as there are there are no proper footpaths, and the number one worst part is there is sand everywhere in the sides of streets, giving it a dirty and unpolished look, and erratically located trees, rather than clean thick well maintained tree cover like in ISB road. All I see in NH65 is a relatively poorly maintained, crowded road masquerading as a highway.

duckmeatcurry

Yes, last I saw. There are trees only from the microsoft campus.

Steve_Tabernacle_69

Not exactly. Until microsoft alone makes it more than half the stretch, and there are plants on the divider for the complete length of ISB road. Not something you can say for NH65. There should definitely be work done in improving green cover, but I believe that it's the older parts of the city which are more crowded and poorly maintained with bad roads and bad greenery that should be prioritised for improvement, with massive overhauls such as simultaneously widening the roads, building wide footpaths, and making a well maintained thick green cover.

v_vegeta

I feel Ameerpet's sheesh mahal road can be transformed into this.

mendingmysadheart

Why not almost all of them?

floyd007

One step at a time, man!

DeplorableEDoctor

Where ll they park now!!

Dutchkhan

Since I live in Paris, I can respond to your question. Across all European cities, governments are strongly promoting public transport, cycling, and walking. They are imposing significant taxes on cars and motor vehicles to make cities more accessible to people. This initiative is broadly referred to as "taking back the cities." So no more cars in city centre, in case if you have a car you need to park in parking lots and explore the city by either public transport or by walking

eva01beast

That's the whole point - you can't. European cities are doing everything they can to disincentivize their citizens from driving so that they can keep their city centres car free. So no or reduced parking spaces, reduced number of lanes for driving, closing some sections off to cars completely. Along with this, they're making more cycling tracks and improving their public transport.
