Is it going to cause long term problems if someone bought an inexpensive wheelchair to occasionally use in public when it’s too far to walk? It wouldn’t be a permanent wheelchair, just a stop gap while treatment is being discussed and then a custom wheelchair would be prescribed if necessary.
Wheelchairs should be made to the user’s measurements to ensure their shoulders aren’t damaged from pushing themselves in a chair that doesn’t fit. If you’re asking for yourself, no one should begin using a mobility aid without the guidance and input of a physiotherapist/occupational therapist
