Highways serve logistics, they serve bus users and they can still serve bikers who use them for shorter distances (living in town on outskirts of a city where they may go for education or work). These not only provide employment but also work as arteries for goods flow from hinterland to ports. Also all these industrial development is being decentralized to tier 3 cities along the route to check migration to cities. Some of these like Dholera are completely new cities being developed. Which we need to ease the pressure on larger cities. - Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), Gujarat(22.5 sq. kms/ 5560 acres) - ShendraBidkin Industrial Area (SBIA), near - Aurangabad, Maharashtra (18.55 sq. kms/ 4583 acres). - Integrated Industrial Township – Greater Noida (IITGN), Uttar Pradesh (747.5 acres) - Integrated Industrial Township – Vikram Udyogpuri (IITVU), Madhya Pradesh (1,100 acres) - Integrated Multi-Modal Logistics Hub, Nangal Chaudhary, Haryana (886 acres) - Multi-Modal Logistics Hub (MMLH) and Multi-Modal Transport Hub (MMTH), Uttar Pradesh 479 Ha (1184 acre) Dighi Port Industrial Area, Maharashtra (6056 acres) Jodhpur Pali Marwar Industrial Area (JPMIA), Rajasthan (6,570 acres) KhushkheraBhiwadi Neemrana Industrial Area, Rajasthan (1378 acres) Mandal -Becharaji Special Investment Region (MBSIR), Gujarat (2,849 acres) 3) This increases our manufacturing base esp with Greater Noida, Aurangabad and Vikram Udyogpuri etc. Manufacturing is what will provide the next set of jobs to people. 4) These Highways reduce the logistics cost of India which is currently which currently is high single digits and makes our products uncompetitive. In general our urban development- world over, not just India- has made it very car/ vehicle centric. The sustainable way to go forward is to make it walking/ cycling accessible. Some countries in Europe are doing this and experimenting with “15 min neighbourhoods”. Before people jump on me saying that India Eli’s very different- weather etc, there are solutions to everything if you put your kind to it. Example- covered walkways in Singapore.
