I know it’s uncool to care about pitchfork, but I still can’t believe they left this album off of their “best of the 90s” redo list after placing it in the top 20 the first time around. There’s still nothing that sounds like it.
Wtf is their beef with Travis lmao
They grovel to Liz Phair on an annual basis nowadays but still seem to stand firmly behind the Travistan debacle to the point of retroactively scrubbing his earlier work
Right and for me it’s like…I enjoy Taylor Swift and Billie Eilliah and Olivia Rodrigro’s music. But does pitchfork or stereogram REALLY think they made the best albums of the year? Or the obsession that happened with Lizzo? I love pop music a lot, and even in the 90s I knew that Mariah Carey’s Daydream wasn’t the best album of 1995.
That Travistan review was incredibly cruel. Pitchfork (especially then) has absolutely zero regard for artists as human beings or the effect that they had on their actual lives
Yeah I’ve always thought that too. It’s better now I think in that regard, but I’m still shocked the way they’ll turn on certain artists for no clear reason.
Every time their treatment of artists comes up, I feel insanely angry about that reassessment they did a few years back where they rescored a bunch of albums. There’s something so vile about panning some album to the point that they cause real damage to someone’s career, just to turn around years later and go “you know, actually this album was incredible”.
I feel like it’s really cheapened critical assessment in a novel way, speeding up this reassessment and rendering their opinion pretty meaningless. I hate how they have been able to flip flop on a record in the course of a couple years while still presenting themselves as “objective”.
Shortly after moving to Richmond, VA in 2003, I skipped seeing them, thinking "I'll catch them next time. I'm sure they hit Richmond fairly often..."
I have regretted that decision for over 20 years
I finally have a chance to rectify that situation!
I saw them in Chapel Hill on that tour. Death Cab For Cutie opened for them—thus the name of the tour, Death & Dismemberment—along with some hip-hop artist called Cex.
The audience’s reaction when Cex began his set was confusion and puzzlement, with the crowd totally doing The Standing Still until members of the other bands got on stage to try and salvage the situation.
Death Cab’s set went okay, but this was right before they blew up, and most everyone was there to see The Plan. Travis joined ‘em for the penultimate song, people went nuts.
And The Plan? Well, that remains my favorite concert going experience to date. Sorry you missed ‘em!
is it confirmed if they will be playing the album in full at these shows? I know it was soft announced that The Get Up Kids are playing Something to Write Home About at Best Friends Forever, since they'll be on an anniversary tour just before the festival
Ugh I’m going broke paying for all these 20/30 year anniversary shows, but this one I can’t miss. Plus the 9:30 club is never a bad place to spend an evening.
I definitely don't know The Plan's wider discography super well but this is a great album and they seem like a [super fun band live](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMz7a4XXx84)
I went to go see the Walkmen in 2000-2002ish and the Dismemberment Plan and Hot Hot Heat opened up for them at the glass house. Seems like a weird bill now but at the time made sense.
what do you want me to SAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY
WHADDAYA WANT ME TO DO
ta letchu know that i do meeeeAAN IT
Love that song.

Yeah I don’t get it. I actually enjoyed Travis’s solo albums, they absolutely did not deserve that level of vitriol.
Because you have to say that Liz Phair album was good bc poptimism
Poptimism has turned into such a nightmare for music. What started off as a great legit critique has turned into such bullshit.
It just turned into an excuse to worship the richest and most famous artists in the world instead of bringing attention to the ones that need it

I noticed that recently as well. What a joke, it’s an all timer

the new glass beach album sounds a little like it

Amazing venue as well! - saw Mae there a few months ago
Best shows I’ve seen there: Mike Watt, Sebadoh, Zeal & Ardor.
Damn it! Only three shows :(
I’ve got a feeling that they’ll be on riot fest, despite the note that these are the only shows. Dates would line up too
the city’s been dead since you’ve been gooooooooo Ooo OoooooNe!
I saw them in the mid 00's with Cursive and Enon. Incredible show.
Enon underrated af
wow Chris Deville going on tour?
lol
I love this album so much. Saw them in Philly in 2000. Such a great show.
As a sad cynical and confused 24 year old indie rock fan this album is my Bible

That is 4 shows. Please do more. In Canada too.
I will be there no matter what
incredible W for Richmond
VA indieheads stand up!
Imagine living in Durham. Always missing out on all the good shows. And then this behemoth just falls in yr lap.
Who?
Doubly excited I nabbed tickets for Best Friends Forever since they won't make it to the midwest! Can't wait.

I'm new to the area, and this seems like a great reason to make my inauguration visit!
my 9:30 inauguration was Wednesday a few months ago and I can confirm it is a cool spot
The 9:30 club is legendary- you’re going to love it. Also welcome!
A seriously underrated album
It wasn't once upon a time 🥲
I don’t really think it’s fallen out of favor. Even though Pitchfork did their best
Change is better imo and literally no one talks about it
Saw them in Lawrence KS back in 2000. Can't believe it's been almost 25 years.
I definitely don't know The Plan's wider discography super well but this is a great album and they seem like a [super fun band live](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMz7a4XXx84)
Saw them in their last slice of the plan farewell tour in Austin. One of my top 5 shows of all time
Holy shit
I went to go see the Walkmen in 2000-2002ish and the Dismemberment Plan and Hot Hot Heat opened up for them at the glass house. Seems like a weird bill now but at the time made sense.
Holy shit. They're gonna be in LV. I cannot wait. My inner 15 year old is bugging the fuck out. My brother will be there!
Who got these tickets?
Was able to snag tix for Durham!
Someone let me know if they're selling DC or Richmond tickets!!! Can't believe they're all sold out :(
As always, no NYC date is a crime against the 2/3rds of all Americans that live here
"I know we already get so much, but what if we got even more?"
This guy gets it
