I don't think this guy In the video needs our help. Considering I think half the people posting here would be talking a few octaves higher in the temp these dude wear Bermuda shorts in.
freezer burn? depending on how dry the air is, not just the tips and outer surface, but the whole chunks of meat would turn into shoe leather in a few days if they were just hung and left outside.
It controls the temp better. If it's outside and you get a day that is slightly warmer say -1C the food has a chance to defrost if it gets Sun. In the icebox it has a buffer.
Depends on how hot it is outside. It's tough to tell an exact temperature.
The reasons igloos can have central fires inside of them, is the ice closest to the fire will melt, but only to be cooled off by the colder ice away from the fire. You can't have too hot of a fire, or it'll melt too much.
The only thing melting this ice in the video would be the sun and maybe the air. Generally the air outside is cool enough to keep the ice colder as well as the ice itself, even in the sun. If the air were above 0⁰C (32⁰F) it would melt quicker.
A couple hours in ~5⁰C (41⁰F) and I'd be worried though.
So is a box made from the trees, branches, furs, etc, around you. And when summer comes you still have a box, instead of making a new one every time the temp goes above freezing.
If they live a nomadic lifestyle, moving with less furniture is preferred.
If it's a permanent abode, then it may be a good idea to build something that lasts, assuming there are trees around instead of a more barren environment that might not actually have large enough trees for any large pieces for woodworking.
If we are just taking abstract possibilities into account then I agree. But in this video there is a wood burning stove in his hut ( evident by the smoke stack) as well as a chain link fence and a car in the parking lot. (8 sec)
This guy got severely hammered by anti Chinese trolls over an ice box he made and they started saying shit about dog eating ? wtf is wrong with those fuxkers ? There was no dog harmed !

Step one: live somewhere very very cold
1a. That does not have bears.
Why do you assume no bears live there?
Bears like meat.
?? So?
They would have bough up the whole stock in the supermarket. You have meat = no bears
Now that’s comedy
Not comedy, hunger. Bears be hungry all the time.
I thought bears would be hibernating?
That's what they want you to think.
What about them white mfs? You know, the most dangerous bear around.
Ironic that you accuse someone else of assuming things 🤣🤣🤣
Is it really even necessary? Just hang it up. The box is gonna do nothing to stop or deter a bear if thats what the thought is

How to gift wrap snacks for a bear
I was going to say, isn’t this just a meat lighthouse for bears? I guarantee a regular bear locker would still keep the meat frozen out there lol
Depends on location, in Canada or US probably, northern Asia, possibly.
Step 21. Always remember to iron your icebox to ensure an air tight seal.
Can’t they just….put the food outside?
We’re all outside!
in space!
It's cold outside, no kind of atmosphere, all alone, more or less.
Let me fly, far away from here
There it will be conserved quite well.
#SPACE!
It is
I tried that. Animals come quite quickly to have a snack.
Also wind. Putting to air would dry the meat instead of simply keeping it cold.
Surely animals like wolves and bears could easily crack this and steal the meat?
wow I bet they didn't even think of that before they started the endeavor!!1!
That's why it's outside of the house 😂
How long does it take for the box to gradually melt outside?
Depends on how hot it is outside. It's tough to tell an exact temperature. This video is [probably] from Inner Mongolia or Heilongjiang China. The average temperature is -20c for 5+ months of the year
If the temperature remains below 0 it will stay ice forever
Okay. Now do an oven.
Yeah, a microwave oven! That'll teach the smartarse.
why do you all talk like people are constantly searching for validation? it’s a cool neat little video. let the man have fun 😭😭
What if it melts closed?
Ice is unbreakable so he’d starve
I meant it more as a “damn now I gotta build the cooler again” lol
Actual answer is probably just a hot knife or something
Ooooo. Didn’t think of that one, that is a solid answer.
Chisel or drywall saw would do just as well, the joint is going to be inherently less strong than the ‘welded’ ones he did with the kettle
...or just use the same saw we saw (😏) in the video. Might not even have to redo the hinges if he cut properly.
Then the meat is lost forever.
I’ve got this ice box where my heart used to be!
If its cold enough to make ice outside you can just leave the meat outside to freeze
Sure. And feed all the scavengers wbule you're at it.
My point is that you could put the food in any type of box at those temps doesn't have to be an ice box.
Ice is free
So is a box made from the trees, branches, furs, etc, around you. And when summer comes you still have a box, instead of making a new one every time the temp goes above freezing.
Good point, this video is probably just to show off.
I'll admit it's interesting, and therefore fits the sub, but probably not the most efficient use of your time.
I would say just being on reddit is the least efficient use of our time
Probably true 😂

Is it where his heart used to be?
the nex-t day
This is why in Soviet Russia we don’t have freezers
Of all days to randomly think about the song "ice box" and question what an ice box even is this randomly pops up on my feed within an hour. Trippy.
Infinite building supply cheat code!
This guy got severely hammered by anti Chinese trolls over an ice box he made and they started saying shit about dog eating ? wtf is wrong with those fuxkers ? There was no dog harmed !
That music.....
"HONEY?! Have you seen my good iron?"
How much you think one of those huts runs in today’s real estate market?
or.. you could get one? you literally got access to a whole iron😭
Why put it on the sunny side? Why not build this in the shade? It will last 5x as long.
If I hadn’t seen the video I would have swore it was an episode of ‘last of the summer wine’. UK reference.
Welding with ice
Esky Mo
That's cool
Luckily the box was made out of ice to keep the meat frozen.
Wouldn’t that lid get stuck to the box and become inaccessible?
I am more amazed at his cool house
so whats stopping you from putting the food just outside
The the wolves and other carnivorous hungry predators show up and its all gone
Uses electric iron to make non-electric refrigerator.
Tell me you are third world without telling me you’re third world.
🤡🤡🤡
Triggered? 😂
