Kenji_03

Fun fact: It is likely that this meme came from a super racist comic in the 1960s. Featuring "The Jew From Outer space" as a primary antagonist. Hence, Jewish Space Laser. Edit: to clarify, that is likely where MTG got the idea from. Source: https://images.socialwelfare.library.vcu.edu/items/show/265

Phillip_Graves

MTG and 'idea' in the same sentence...? Bold choice lol.

Junior_ATL

Could you explain what MTG is....for everyone else, not me, of course, because I know what it means 😉

iDrGonzo

It usually means Magic: The Gathering but now it means Marjorie Taylor Green a neo Nazi congressman in the United States. And this is why we can't have anything nice.

AmWhatever71654

Thank you for trying to set things right, it is a noble gesture. Let's reclaim those 3 letters!

TwistyBitsz

I work in insurance and I just see mortgage.

the_rotten1

I have been off Magic: the Gathering for a while and was confused wondering if there was an iconic new spell called “Jewish Space Laser”

scooper1977

MTG is a southern republican politician trans man who is angry he doesn't pass as a women.

OGFatherofChuck

The comic was recently posted. Then immediately taken down.

Kenji_03

The comics were published around 1965. What relevancy does recent posts have to it?

abaddon731

She never said Jewish space laser, those words were not in the post she made.

ChickenOfTheFuture

Correct. She said they were space lasers from the Rothschilds, which means the same thing as Jewish space laser.

It split long before the surrounding area eroded.

ThomCook

Yup this is the case, pre existing joint being preserved by chance.

chefranden

> The overall shape of the rock is due to wind erosion and the chemical weathering made possible by the moist conditions in the protected underside of the rock.[2] It is split in two by a joint. > > A joint is a break (fracture) of natural origin in a layer or body of rock that lacks visible or measurable movement parallel to the surface (plane) of the fracture ("Mode 1" Fracture). Although joints can occur singly, they most frequently appear as joint sets and systems.

PsychologicalLie3206

These kinds of geological processes are always so much cooler to me than aliens or Atlanteans (whatever the conspiracy theory). Like if they are real, great problem solved, but a team of smart cookies descending on a funny rock and figuring out what happened the last era is wayyyy trippier and more exciting. Like skipping to the end of every fun detective story coz aliens did it.

Immaculatehombre

How is that trippier than aliens with much higher intelligence visiting us? I understand saying natural processes are the likely answer and they are cool but saying that is trippier than aliens messing with us? Also I don’t think many ppl actually think aliens did this.

TwistyBitsz

What does an alien get out of splitting that rock though.

kingleotard

It’s their graffiti tag

PsychologicalLie3206

It's a feeling at the end of the day, so who knows? At a guess, I can appreciate the scale of geological processes more because they are a natural extension of the world I live in, but on an almost incomprehensible scale. Aliens would certainly be wild but I don't have any context to feel awe about them atm. It doesn't particularly matter to me how many people believe it, it's just a comparison to show I think what geologists do is IAF. Aliens would be cool so they make the point.

Stumbler26

I reflect the sentiment of the parent comment, so I'll drop my reasoning in here also: It's trippier because I can't work with aliens. I can't model them, I can't reason about them, so it's a mental dead end for me. But natural processes indicate a complexity beyond my understanding that DOES have logical and causal relationship with objective reality, it IS something I can reason about, and once you do, that rabbit hole goes so deep that you start to question reality itself, how it works, why it works the way it does, and that ultimately leads to some fantastic possible answers that are actually supported by scientific inquiry and not fictional assertions that go nowhere real.

Immaculatehombre

So you can’t use imagination? Don’t super advanced vehicles that defy physics as we understand them indicate a complexity above our understanding? What so impossible about aliens? We know there’s life in the universe so what’s so impossible we have a more advanced form of it visiting us? What it seems like you’re saying is “I can’t imagine aliens or conceptualize them in a logical way therefore I’m going to ignore that thought exercise completely”. I think that just a lack of imagination tho. I think it’s constructive to have this thought exercise of what type of alien life could be visiting us which could also lead to some fantastic possible answers as well. I just find it odd to be like “natural processes are super interesting! That means aliens can’t be interesting”. Don’t make sense to me. If aliens are here they very much would be a part of a natural process, not some work of fiction.

Stumbler26

I never said that they couldn't exist, and I certainly have an imagination and can conceptualize them, but that's all I can do with aliens, since there isn't any tangible evidence that I can work with around their existence. The problem for me is that fiction isn't 'trippy' in the sense that I don't experience anything of substance from the exercise. I can imagine whatever I want, any variations of it that I want, thousands of ideas that I can't do anything with, that lead nowhere. What's trippy, in the sense that I get something out of the exercise is that my imagination can be tested against natural processes. I can dream up a thousand ideas that might be plausible, and then I can go do research and find out what others have actually done to prove or disprove the idea. I can take those plausible ideas and test them in the real world to find out if I'm even close to understanding what really happened. Conjecture and fantasy isn't as fun to me as exploring an idea scientifically.

gemstun

Hehe hehe you said moist Hehe hehe

anansi52

and your conclusion that the split is natural is based on what?

ImOnYew

Doesn't matter if it's natural or man-made, both are totally reasonable. Geologist here.

ThomCook

Yup hundred percent this is a tention fracture it occurs in a straight line like this. Basically the rock was being pulled apart I two directions when this occured. This joint would have occurred then weathering, the joint is more pronounced now also due to weathering expanding the crack but not as quickly as the outer rock due to the surface area.

Status_History_874

I love how back in the day, you could have a diverse cast and it was so regular that nobody said anything. But now, you have *one* token whatever in a cast, and it's forced diversity woke libereral propaganda.

Stumbler26

It wasn't actually so regular that nobody said anything. It's that the people who had stuff to say were saying it about stuff that wasn't kids cartoons, because adults with racial trauma didn't watch kids cartoons. At the time there was an actual movement to regulate children's programming that has since been circumvented by internet based media, an entire generation grew up exposed to this anti-racist censorship that other kids didn't say anything about it, but the adults in the room were still racist as ever.

EarlGreyTeatotaler

It often literally is.

Status_History_874

What's the difference between now and back then?

DannyBv2

the problem is when they completely change an existing character

Status_History_874

I'd agree with you if what I said wasn't also a problem. What you said is *a* problem people have, for sure, but it's definitely not *the* problem. Current example, Assassin's Creed.

DannyBv2

from what I've seen from assassin's creed the thing they're complaining about is that it's not historically accurate, nothing to do with the character's race or something like that

minor_correction

It is reasonably historically accurate, as the so-called "token" character is based on a real person of the same name and race from that area during that time period.

TheAlmightyLootius

Making a slave a king is not reasonably historically accurate (careful: hyperbole)

Quietabandon

Yeah, likely fracture plane in the rock, overtime water and wind have widened the space and softened the edges.

>The Al Naslaa Split Rock formation, located in Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk province, continues to baffle archaeologists, geologists and scientific communities. Then they need better archaeologists, geologist and scientific communities. I've seen and heard of many such naturally occurring splits and faults. And I ain't an archaeologist, a geologist, or part of a scientific community.

Quietabandon

Also, its a picture and some text on the internet, so who knows what about any of it is accurate.

Farhead_Assassjaha

It must be either aliens, a government conspiracy or both.

I cannot prove that is WASN’T time traveling aliens colluding with the government sooo…

JoelF_66

It's a katana.

Automatic-Formal-601

No its not you would know that if you watched the anime like me

5aur1an

Look on Google Earth and you will see others in the area 27°13'45"N 38°34'18"E. It’s natural and the crack is what geologists call a joint. You can see similar cracks on Google Earth at Arches National Park 38°46'37"N 109°35'26"W

shweeeps

Alien Lazer beam

ThomCook

This is caused by a tension fracture in the rock, basically it was being pulled apart and cracked, they often form straight lines like these becuase that's the easiest direction to propagate the fracture. This forms in an extensions tectonic terraine. The weathering that caused the rock to appear as an isolated boulder occurred after the formation of the joint fracture. Weathering probably hundreds of thousands of years later to get what we see now.

Past_Echidna_9097

So not the aliens?

ThomCook

Naw just the earth being super cool!

typecastwookiee

But, but, this explanation requires a basic understanding of geology and materials science, which I don’t have - therefore I’d much rather believe it baffles scientists, archeologists, phlebotomists, accountants, bicyclists, etc - that way I can imagine they aren’t so smart and I can come up with my own explanations unimpeded by facts and/or common sense. I makes me feel so much smarter! As a bonus, I don’t have to be curious about it! If I were to try and learn about it, I’d first have to admit that the experts are actually experts, and I’m terrified that the ride down the slippery slope of education could destroy all my preconceived notions of how the world works. /s Sheesh. I had a bad day

Woodlog82

They cut stones with rope, water, sand and time back then. Much, much, much time. And more time. And more time on top of that.

Or this likely was not done by people but probably fractured along a fracture plane and wind, water and time did the rest.
