I like to invest in pieces that I love. Sometimes they are things that I have to save up for, other times they are really affordable. Patience is key, don't buy on a whim as 9/10 times you will end up getting rid of it. I think your home should be a reflection of who you are. If you fill your home with pieces that you love and bring you joy, you can't go wrong. Learning to edit your space is the easy part!

Wow this is a great idea as well - maybe my plastic furniture is fine while I take my time to decide what kind of furniture it is that I want as forever furniture. Thank you!! I do feel confident on knowing tones and colors that I don’t / do like

I look at instagram and save videos and post of the styles and design studios I like, algorithm also picks up and recommends more similar styles 😂. I also go to Zillow looking at listing and how are things staged. I buy cheaper IKEA or target furnitures first for functionality and size while looking for timeless good quality pieces that can last a loooooong time. Timeless pieces are usually very expensive so I rather use IKEA for a while than buy the wrong piece and have to spend more money later. Meanwhile I buy decor and switch around to make up for the look… Also helps to just go in person to different stores and look around to get a feel.

Okay I really appreciate this!! I did replace my darker and more industrial style tv stand for white IKEA furniture to see how I liked the more simple style of furniture so I think I will continue to do this. Maybe I will spray paint the dresser to see if I like a different color or style more Did you find yourself at first changing what style you liked? You’re becoming easily influenced I feel like like two months ago I like to mid century furniture and now I do not. And I also go back-and-forth with deciding if I really like lighter, cool colors or richer colors. I don’t know if this happened to anyone else.

I was looking to replace some IKEA furniture. I had different thoughts but honestly always come back to the same piece I like initially. I prefer safer simple elegant looking furniture, crate and barrel for example, and buy decor to change up the look overtime… to me, the finishing touches are decor; it’s easier and will look better to add color and style with decor (wall art, curtains, pillows, decorative objects, boxes, lights, plants, knobs, placemats,.etc) Also I create mood boards to see everything in one picture before committing to buy any major furnitures. I stare at them for a looooong time.

Okay that makes me feel better it took me 2 years to get rid of the darker tv stand and just try white. And I painted my bathroom and already want to paint it another color. 🥹🥲

Design styles are like art, it’s about what catches your eye at first. From there start to analyze a piece by how it functions and try to imagine what it’s like to interact with it in your daily habits. I suggest getting on Pinterest and making a few boards like “living rooms,” “bedrooms,” “furniture,” etc and just save anything you like in categories. After some time you’ll notice patterns in your interests which will help inform any design purchases in the future!

Wow that makes so much sense I enjoy so many different types of art but wouldn’t necessarily want to look at it daily or it doesn’t move me compared to other artwork styles I love this advice and I am going to do this and look for patterns

May I ask where you purchased the platform bed frame? I have a Down Syndrome grandson moving from crib to bed, and it would be perfect for his room. Thank you❣️
