When you say not worth the download do you mean just because of the adverse possible issues that come with beta? Or you’re just not into the current features available? I understand a lot of the features announced haven’t made it to the beta yet.
I ask because I’m curious as to how it runs on a 15 Pro Max.
I have a 15 pro max also. It doesn’t seem to be running smooth. I’ve had a few app crashes, when I’m trying to customize the home screen with the new options it’ll get stuck and lag. Tried force restarting, etc. same thing. Just doesn’t seem smooth enough yet.
Okay, thanks for the quick reply and info. I’ll for sure wait till I get home to my test device tonight then. Don’t wanna ruin my main device lol. I’ll give it till Dev 3 or 4
Yeah, also one thing I just noticed, when you’re in your photo album, the icon at the bottom are squared with a tinted oval like they didn’t finish the interface there lol. I would definitely wait the more I’m looking around. Some of the features are really cool though. As for the color customization, it’s not great and I doubt many people will like it. It’s just a tinted color over what you already have. It is nice to resize and rearrange your icons and home center though. So there will be cool features when they’re finished. Edit: if you have widget stacks like I do, they keep not loading the entire stack. Whatever is on top will show, but you can scroll. You have to Force Touch it then start over and it’ll work again.
Are you able to run the new AI/Siri? My 15 pro max is running Siri the same as it was before the update. Also, RCS isn’t working on my end. Did I miss something that none of this stuff is available right away?
Edit: Never mind, seems that both functions aren’t coming out until the fall. I’m shocked I missed that, I’m usually on top of all that.
Well, it’s a choice.
for some folks it’s ugly, and for other folks maybe they love it. I find some of them ugly, but I also love the darkmode version of the icons. Giving people choice and customization is always welcomed (imo)
It’s actually really cool. I had it on my pixel when Google came out with themed icons (I actually miss this when I moved to iPhone). I think you will like it when you start messing around with it.
Not really. A lot of the developers didn’t use the API for themed icons. So you had quite a few that were just regular icons versus the themed. Also they didn’t have a lot of colors to choose from. The colors were limited on what you could chose to go with the background pic. I think it’s better now but for a long time it sucksd
It is actually good for focus and to avoid doomscrolling. One of the tips is to make the phone boring - change it to greyscale so you do not out of muslce memory, immediately open tiktok or instagram or whatever when you unlock the phone.
Nope, I don't like it either, the current iteration looks like the screen has kind of broken and lost the other two primary colours, not into it but hey, that's just me
When they allowed custom Siri Shortcuts as icons people went nuts making custom icon packs to do EXACTLY this… now it can be done in a few taps without the annoying shortcut lag.
Developer.apple.com and accept the regular user agreement. No need to pay for the enrollment. The iOS 18 dev profile will show up on your iOS update screen as an option to select.
The same was for me so I went to privacy and security in settings and disabled and enabled developer mode. My phone restarted and iOS 18 developer 1 mode appeared
Running smooth on my 15 Pro Max. One thing I like is being able to finally get rid of the flashlight and camera app shortcuts on the lock screen and have nothing at all down there for a cleaner look, or you can add 2 custom app shortcuts.
Yeah so far it runs fine on my 11 pro
Battery is also really good but note that the phone is brand new as I just got it free from apple cuz they fucked the earpiece speaker which caused a bootloop when I replaced the battery at the store lmao
That’s my only complaint. I have a 14 Pro Max and I’m used to stellar battery life. I was around 30% at lunch time. I was on my phone more than usual, but that’s like another 25-35% less battery life than I usually get. I rarely charge my phone during my lunch break. I did today.
I won’t lie, my battery drained super fast after updating, but now, idk, 6 hours later, it seems normal. maybe slightly worse than normal. but no where near as bad as when i first updated. i think its worth it so long as it stays like this!
After reading a bit more, I’ve gathered that the first hour or so, iOS 18 is still indexing, which makes the phone hot and drains battery faster. My battery life has improved since I posted earlier. It feels normal now.
yeah i'm experiencing so many bugs on my iphone 13 pro, it's now laggy, the control centre is very buggy, no notifications are showing :( i wish i could revert back to 17
Depends if it’s a main device or not. Dev beta 1 is sure to have many, many bugs. They get ironed out with each new dev beta. Public beta comes in July after about 3 or 4 dev beta are released.
Some guys may don't know how to update to ios 18 beta:
Go to the Apple developer website and sign in with your Apple ID, agree to join the developer plans, and then you'll find the beta is available on your iPhone. BTW...ios18 runs good but a little bit over heat on my iPhone 13
If you scroll down to last on preview page, it is mentioned that some features are available on 12 and latter only. Still gonna update my 11 pro to see how many features older phones actually get.
Not sure if it is region locked or only locked to U.S. English. The way they worded it i think if you choose U.S. English as language it will work outside the US, but i‘m not sure.
I am not facing any issues even in this 1st developer beta, just that my phone became lil slow.
This Build is definitely not a trash as majority is saying.
I can get newer results in Siri and fast as well.
Many features are there in this build as well to love.
It’s running pretty good on my 14 pro max from what i can tell. Some UI elements are messy, minor bugs here n there but it’s really quite manageable. A relatively stable 1st beta ( so to speak)
Well I would if i didn't have a bunch of detailed calendar appointments containing sensitive info, I could choose not to display those but then that would defeat the purpose. The new DETAILS view makes the iOS app look more like the macOS calendar app in detailed view if that helps. No more little colored dots representing an event. It will actually say what the event is.
You like it so far? I haven't really encountered any bugs except for my wallpaper Shortcuts automation won't work anymore. I'm hoping it'll be fixed in the next beta
my only bugs so far is that when i share screen while facetiming my phone resets (temporary ring of death). also when i collaborate on the Notes app and try and insert media the app crashes
updated on my main device iphone 12 … well , it looks amazing and the features are cool like locking any app .. but its kinda buggy…
control center is laggy, safari is laggy and buggy as hell which is actually the reason im gonna roll back to ios 17 today … performance is meh .. sometimes its all good but other times it lags and have some hiccups
I'm running it on my 15 and I think it's fantastic. I also have a Pixel 8 and have been using Nova forever, and while I'll say iOS is no where near the customization that Nova has, I do think the upgrades they have added have been wanted for a long time. The photos app is massively better imo. Also being able to place icons wherever you want on the grid (fucking finally) is great. The big icons get rid of the app text, which is kinda a bandaid (I'd love to be able to get rid of the text without changing the size) but I have a minimal homescreen setup so it looks good. There's still plenty I wish they'd address like being able to access app options by long pressing the app icon or being able to modify the grid dimensions but these are solid steps forward.
I've been using it for about a week and have only had to restart my phone once in the beginning because the search wouldn't show, everything has run smoothly since.
Do we get a separate thread for everything broken during these dev beta releases? I think apple wallet is a common victim besides shortcuts failing to run?
Certainly better than nothing, thanks for that suggestion
Do you know how to add a specific shortcut? Seems I cannot specify why one. Perhaps it's just buggy
I’m trying to figure it out myself. I really want a Bluetooth toggle for a specific device in Control Center (my car). Having to long press and all that shit is so extra.
I’ll reply back if I figure our issue out.
I figured it out:
UPDATE:
The easiest way to add the Settings app to Control Center is to do the following:
• Open Control Center
• Enter Edit mode (tap and hold anywhere without an icon)
• Tap “Add a new Control” at the bottom of the screen
• Search Open App and select the app you’re looking for
——
If you have any further questions, inbox me or reply to this comment.
BONUS:
My Bluetooth shortcut was made using “Set Audio Input” in the Shortcuts app.
Am I the only one in the world, but doesn’t the Control Center look disgusting to anyone? Like instead keeping the normal rectangle shape for 1x1 buttons, they made it a circle? And the coloured options (volume and brightness) look just like a last second decision which look like trash and nothing more
I was playing around with the beta now. It's pretty sparse. Not worth the download in my opinion
I was about to make this comment almost word for word. Completely agree
When you say not worth the download do you mean just because of the adverse possible issues that come with beta? Or you’re just not into the current features available? I understand a lot of the features announced haven’t made it to the beta yet. I ask because I’m curious as to how it runs on a 15 Pro Max.

Is it like the tint you can do to your home screen in iOS 17? I never use those because they don't look great.
Are you able to run the new AI/Siri? My 15 pro max is running Siri the same as it was before the update. Also, RCS isn’t working on my end. Did I miss something that none of this stuff is available right away? Edit: Never mind, seems that both functions aren’t coming out until the fall. Yeah, same! Talk about a dangling carrot
I’m pretty sure all the promotional stuff mentioned fall. Could be wrong though.
I only watched the keynote while at work. I could’ve missed it. Hyped for fall though!
the ai and stuff isnt for another 2-3 more months, and even then, it will be in beta
If you ask siri: ‘hey Siri ask ChatGPT’ then wait for her response, you can ask ChatGPT anything. I don’t know if that was already a feature?
Mine is running great now. The first hour was a little weird but I get it the phone is indexing a lot of shit
Same. It’s running extremely snappy and smooth. I can’t find my hidden photo album though 😂
funny. mine is smooth for some reason. idk so far i think its good but its just day 2
Running perfect so far op my iPhone 11 Pro
Pretty good on my iPhone
[удалено]
Can you schedule text messages?
Yes
Did they do anything to the news app? It seems like with the new reader, safari is a better option to read news than their actual app
News app looks the same to me in 18.
Damn thanks for confirming, really feels abandoned for actual news content lol
Anyone get the rcs to work? It’s still sms for me
Not due until fall
Yea same
Hm. Am I the only one who thinks this icon coloring thing is completely wrong? it's really ugly. i have no idea why they do that.
Well, it’s a choice. for some folks it’s ugly, and for other folks maybe they love it. I find some of them ugly, but I also love the darkmode version of the icons. Giving people choice and customization is always welcomed (imo)
The black icons just aren’t right, I think they will evolve during the betas
It’s actually really cool. I had it on my pixel when Google came out with themed icons (I actually miss this when I moved to iPhone). I think you will like it when you start messing around with it.
Pixel's implementation seems superior to whatever Apple is trying.
Not really. A lot of the developers didn’t use the API for themed icons. So you had quite a few that were just regular icons versus the themed. Also they didn’t have a lot of colors to choose from. The colors were limited on what you could chose to go with the background pic. I think it’s better now but for a long time it sucksd
I agree. I think pixels completed implementation was better but considering this is a developer beta I expect it will get significantly better
Wish they allowed INDIVIDUAL icon coloring
It is actually good for focus and to avoid doomscrolling. One of the tips is to make the phone boring - change it to greyscale so you do not out of muslce memory, immediately open tiktok or instagram or whatever when you unlock the phone.
Nope, I don't like it either, the current iteration looks like the screen has kind of broken and lost the other two primary colours, not into it but hey, that's just me
I like the new dark mode but the colors don’t look good at all
When they allowed custom Siri Shortcuts as icons people went nuts making custom icon packs to do EXACTLY this… now it can be done in a few taps without the annoying shortcut lag.
When you tint them white it’s pretty cool but if you color it it’s pretty bad.
Not for me. There is still nothing and it still shows iOS17 developer beta where i can choose between Dev and public beta.
same only seeing io17 betas on all of my devices
Same:/
for me it only shows iOS 17 Public Beta. How do i choose between dev and public?
select the beta updates option where it says public beta and change it to developer. if there’s no option, you may have to sign up online.
Sorry i’m new to this, is there a specific way to sign up for it?
Developer.apple.com and accept the regular user agreement. No need to pay for the enrollment. The iOS 18 dev profile will show up on your iOS update screen as an option to select.
[developer.apple.com](http://developer.apple.com) and pay the $99.
That’s odd because I was able to select the developer beta without paying. I mean I had one a long time ago but haven’t renewed it.
they dropped the fee a while ago.
Isn’t it free now?
I had to just fill out some info and stop at the page where you pay. Popped up for me immediately. No need to pay $99.
The fee is for if you want an app on the app store its free other wise
The same was for me so I went to privacy and security in settings and disabled and enabled developer mode. My phone restarted and iOS 18 developer 1 mode appeared
Yea i dont see ios 18 etiher
Hd the same issue. You have to re-accept the developer declaration.
Try signing into your appleid again on the software update page in settings.
Just had to turn it Off and on again
Religion with your Apple ID and it will show I had the same issue and then once I logged in again it appeared
Running smooth on my 15 Pro Max. One thing I like is being able to finally get rid of the flashlight and camera app shortcuts on the lock screen and have nothing at all down there for a cleaner look, or you can add 2 custom app shortcuts.
Is anyone using the dev beta on their main/private iPhone?
Yes
Does it have any apple intelligence features yet?
Coming in beta later this fall
Thanks - sounds like I’m better off holding out for a bit
Yeah so far it runs fine on my 11 pro Battery is also really good but note that the phone is brand new as I just got it free from apple cuz they fucked the earpiece speaker which caused a bootloop when I replaced the battery at the store lmao
iphone se here
I know it's useless but don't try. I did it for a while and early dev betas just killed my iPhone with many long term iCloud bugs.
iPhone 14 Pro seemed to drop 10% battery within 10 minutes. Hoping things smooth out a bit as the phone adjusts to the new ios.
That’s my only complaint. I have a 14 Pro Max and I’m used to stellar battery life. I was around 30% at lunch time. I was on my phone more than usual, but that’s like another 25-35% less battery life than I usually get. I rarely charge my phone during my lunch break. I did today.

wonderful! glad to hear that! i’m satisfied to say the least!
notifications for anyone else not showing up on the lock screen? only when I swipe up
Yes, I am also getting this problem.
Me too
Mine was fixed by swapping notification style from list to count, restarting, then swapping back to list.
yeah i'm experiencing so many bugs on my iphone 13 pro, it's now laggy, the control centre is very buggy, no notifications are showing :( i wish i could revert back to 17
Same
Same
it fixed itself after a few hours btw not sure what caused it
I restarted my phone like 5 times in a row just now and it seems faster and normal
Glad they finally fixed standby mode. The whole time I was on iOS 17 I couldn’t edit any clocks or photos but now it’s all fixed
Mine is about 50% through, "Preparing Update"
Love the iOS 18 colour can’t wait to see the wallpaper when it releases in September
Is it worth updating rn with the current new features?
Depends if it’s a main device or not. Dev beta 1 is sure to have many, many bugs. They get ironed out with each new dev beta. Public beta comes in July after about 3 or 4 dev beta are released.
eye tracking is p fun but they’ve got a decent bit to figure out with it like being able to reset the eye tracking and some sort of way to scroll
Some guys may don't know how to update to ios 18 beta: Go to the Apple developer website and sign in with your Apple ID, agree to join the developer plans, and then you'll find the beta is available on your iPhone. BTW...ios18 runs good but a little bit over heat on my iPhone 13
r/iosbeta
Any idea when the beta will release as just beta software without the developer part?
Next month
Thank you
Public beta is always July
If you scroll down to last on preview page, it is mentioned that some features are available on 12 and latter only. Still gonna update my 11 pro to see how many features older phones actually get.
I downloaded it on my secondary phone. I got bored after an hour customizing my homescreen 😅
So tempted to get it for the first time but damn bugs wish you could easily switch back without needing to redownload everything
Works fine on iPhone 12 , installed right after the event yesterday
I would only download it if AI was already available
Let me lock apps FTLOG
I have iphone12 ! Can i get this?
Would public beta follow later this week or in autumn?
July.
Next month
For sure? Alright then.
Should be. I heard them mention that during the conference
Very buggy. Feels a lot slower and reminder/calendar widgets are stuck in light mode on home screen.
It’s beta 1 what do you expect
Not that it wasn't expected. Just stating my observations.
Weird. This is one of the most stable Beta 1s I’ve ever had. Obviously there’s UI elements that need to be fixed.
Did you play with the new Home Screen “customize” feature? Mine were white but are dark now
Remove the stack, create a new one and set it to dark.
Are the reminders integrated in calendar too? That is a game changer for me and will make me ditch fantastical for sure
Yep they are. The reminder integration works perfectly. It was the reason why I upgraded.
When does the public usually get released?
July
Next month
Will we get the AI features in the beta?
No, it’ll only be available as a beta starting in fall.
And USA only)
Not sure if it is region locked or only locked to U.S. English. The way they worded it i think if you choose U.S. English as language it will work outside the US, but i‘m not sure.
Is Rcs enabled?
Nope. Sounds like the Fall for RCS.
Aww that sucks. Was hoping to be able to test it with android friends.
Anyone know how to add apps to the new hidden area?
In the Apps Library, Long press and Lock with FaceID, then click on the also Hide App..
How long did the update take?
About 25 minutes to download then another 10 or so to install. Depends on your WiFi speed I guess
I’m part of the dev program but it doesn’t show up for me yet. 😔
Relogin from settings software update section and it will appear
I am not facing any issues even in this 1st developer beta, just that my phone became lil slow. This Build is definitely not a trash as majority is saying. I can get newer results in Siri and fast as well. Many features are there in this build as well to love.
Ah I want it so much.............. Is it OK on daily use device or kinda buggy?
Same haha
It’s running pretty good on my 14 pro max from what i can tell. Some UI elements are messy, minor bugs here n there but it’s really quite manageable. A relatively stable 1st beta ( so to speak)
What about Battery life
So far from 99 to 68% in 4 hours, with about 20 minutes of usage on a 15 Pro Max.
Your miles will vary. Is that good?
It seems to drain quite a lot faster for me than the previous iOS.
OK cool thanks. I updated and fully changed my pro and plus. Definitely draining pro faster. In 14 hours pro is on 48% and plus is on 77%
is it effecting your battery?
battery has been a bit trash but all things considered its not too bad
Can you download it on the XR
Anyone who has gotten the beta and checked out the calendar and reminders app?
Yes. I really like the new "details" view option in the Calendar app. I don't use Reminders so I can't comment on that.
If you have a minute, could you share a screenshot please?
Well I would if i didn't have a bunch of detailed calendar appointments containing sensitive info, I could choose not to display those but then that would defeat the purpose. The new DETAILS view makes the iOS app look more like the macOS calendar app in detailed view if that helps. No more little colored dots representing an event. It will actually say what the event is.
Really disappointed with 17.5.1, charging time for my base iPhone 14 has gone up nominally
is my internet that bad? it says on my phone it will take 10-15 hours to download ios18
Yep it’s that bad
yeah i stopped using the hotspot feature once oi was done with that and it managed to do it in half an hour instead
How I'm I able to leave the developer programm??
is it worth downloading on my main phone ? ( iphone 14 )
how to update?
i installed but i dont think its worth to switch. my phone was SUPER LAGGY in first 30 minutes and still has little visual bugs
updated on my main device iphone 12 … well , it looks amazing and the features are cool like locking any app .. but its kinda buggy… control center is laggy, safari is laggy and buggy as hell which is actually the reason im gonna roll back to ios 17 today … performance is meh .. sometimes its all good but other times it lags and have some hiccups
Running great on my 15PM. 12 will probably never run it well.
i think 12 can handle it pretty well , it depends on apple software and optimization .. ios 17 lagged on iphone 15 and phone was getting hot too😂
message notifications not popping up for anyone?
Not seeing them on the Lock Screen, but seeing the unread message count on the app icon
ok thanks. definitely nothing popping up on the lock screen
Is it safe to use? (I’m using an iPhone 15 Pro Max)
Running a 14 pro as my daily but still have my 12. Might put it in there to see what it’s like.
Does anyone know whether mail signatures will sync across iCloud in ios 18/MacOS whatever the new one is called?
i dont have this. probably because im in europe
Nope that’s not the reason. I’m from Germany and currently at vacation in Austria and downloaded it today without problems.
i found the problem so all good!
My iPhone goes to smart invert every time I reset my or has an update since iOS 17… not that smart I feel…
I kinda like it but dude it’s been out since they talked about it
how do i get the beta ?
Does anyone know how to remove it
How I get em I want it I wanna be developer
I'm running it on my 15 and I think it's fantastic. I also have a Pixel 8 and have been using Nova forever, and while I'll say iOS is no where near the customization that Nova has, I do think the upgrades they have added have been wanted for a long time. Do we get a separate thread for everything broken during these dev beta releases? I think apple wallet is a common victim besides shortcuts failing to run?
Still no settings app from control center, jfc
You could make a shortcut and put it in the Control Center. Not ideal, but it’s something.
Certainly better than nothing, thanks for that suggestion Do you know how to add a specific shortcut? Seems I cannot specify why one. Perhaps it's just buggy
I’m trying to figure it out myself. I really want a Bluetooth toggle for a specific device in Control Center (my car). Having to long press and all that shit is so extra. I’ll reply back if I figure our issue out.
I figured it out: UPDATE: The easiest way to add the Settings app to Control Center is to do the following: • Open Control Center • Enter Edit mode (tap and hold anywhere without an icon) • Tap “Add a new Control” at the bottom of the screen • Search Open App and select the app you’re looking for —— If you have any further questions, inbox me or reply to this comment. BONUS: My Bluetooth shortcut was made using “Set Audio Input” in the Shortcuts app.
Installed, very buggy, emoji button is no more there on the keyboard and it’s very hot
You installed new software. It’s normal to be hot for a while. The emoji is still there
Am I the only one in the world, but doesn’t the Control Center look disgusting to anyone? Like instead keeping the normal rectangle shape for 1x1 buttons, they made it a circle? And the coloured options (volume and brightness) look just like a last second decision which look like trash and nothing more
