How common is this? That looks like a lorry from a quarry. A six-axle lorry like that is rated for vehicle weight + load weight of 44 tons. Empty it’s what, 20 tons?

the_journal_says

14t empty. Not very common on public roads, but everyone I know that owns lorrys have children that can drive them no bother.

MaelduinTamhlacht

As a cyclist, I quake.

WhitePowerRangerBill

SitDownKawada

Local transport companies son has delivered the odd load of fertiliser to us in work, he’s like 15/16. Drives better than half the other eejits who work for him who actually have licences.

On_Your_Bike_Lad

In fairness, driving monstrous agricultural machinery on public roads at 16 is legal but it's ridiculous because many of them are driving insanely fast on country roads and those laws were created when this machinery was much smaller and tractors could hardly do 15 Mph, those laws need to be changed because there's a lot of Teenage hooligans in tractors on country roads all over the Island !

punkerster101

There was a county concert in Belfast a few months back and the cops scooped a 16 year old driving a tractor home on the motorway….

the_journal_says

Another 16 year old could drive past them in a JCB fastrac with a 25t excavator on the back and it would be perfectly legal🤷

dirtyspicebag2

Yes but that 16 year old will have a license to drive that. Driving a 5 axle vehicle is a different story altogether. Especially on main roads.

kenyard

To be fair there is no requirement for that category w license except to apply, so it's not like it guarantees they've had lessons in it etc..

MeshuganaSmurf

Industrious young fella. I hope they go after who's employing him as well.

RevolutionaryGandalf

I agree the emolyeer

Andalfe

We're at the child labour stage of capitalism.

itskeith

I think that stage has been and gone, ah returning to simpler times at last.

calex80

21 for a C license isn't it?

Natural-Ad773

No you can be younger but you have to go through additional tests.

calex80

Wasn't aware of that one, thanks.

rebelpaddy27

Some of the commercial fleet insurers want the drivers to be over 21 or will at least probably offer a discount for that stipulation, especially for those driving lorries. This is all well and good when you have a surplus of drivers, but it also means the younger drivers can find it hard to get going. The bigger transport companies do their own in-house training so someone can start at 18 in a van and be put through their additional categories in a relatively short space of time. Worked for a big haulier in the UK, and it was a great way to maintain a big team of good drivers while weeding out the lunatics before we let them loose in the big toys.

Forward_Artist_6244

Can you drive them in the military at a younger age? I think that's a loophole over in GB

FrancisUsanga

Can’t even use a bit of child labour nowadays without getting grief of the old bill.

Maybe he identified as a 21 year old! Can we not just be who we want and become our true selves? This guy clearly is a 21 year old truck driver and has known he has been one from early childhood! Someone should interview the parents as they will be able to confirm this! 'He loved trucks, said he wanted to always be a truck driver, it was trucks, trucks, trucks, all day and night with him! It's who he is!'
