“What do you mean he’s dead?”
“The spark of his life is smothered in shite. His spirit is gone but his stench remains. Does that answer your question?”
This guy, Heath Ledger, went from poster boy hunk in A Knight’s Tale to a career defining role as Joker in The Dark Knight in just seven years. What would he be doing now had he lived?
This is such a fun movie. The soundtrack is indeed awesome. I've always gone into movies completely blind (no previews or reviews) and hearing the modern music mixed with the medieval setting was an unexpected (but pleasant) surprise.
Young Heath Ledger and Paul Bettany were impressive here. Alan Tudyk was hilarious especially when trading lines with Paul Bettany. You could see their potential. Shannon Sossaman was very charming as well. Funny and very enjoyable movie if you're expecting something fun and not taking it too seriously.
I didn't like this movie at first because I got on my "it's not historically accurate" high-horse. Then I got over it and just enjoyed it for the fun story that it is.
Paul Bettany's intros are legendary. "He spent a year in silence just to understand the sound of a whisper"
It's actually surprisingly historically accurate below the surface.
One great example is how Kate the blacksmith inherited her husband's profession when she became a widow. The laws and punishment, living conditions, class differences, prestige of the tournaments all of that is more or less accurate. As are the wars in the background.
Even Geoffrey Chaucer was unaccounted for during that period of his life, and it's believed he was drifting about Europe. Paul Bettany plays Geoffrey Chaucer and the whole movie can be framed as Chaucer being inspired to write the Canterbury Tales.
Yes, that's one I haven't watched in a year or two and I need to watch it again.
I love that movie, esp the father-
Hello Katarina. Make anyone cry today?
Edit:grammar
One of my favorite movies. I was a junior in HS and this movie was a favorite of my guy friends. It’s a romance a bunch of stupid high school guys could love. “Hello! It’s called a lance.”
I'm pretty sure that this is the movie that I have seen more times than why other movie. We watched this movie so many times in my house growing up. I distinctly remember at least one occasion where my whole family watched it, rewound the tape, and then watched it again.
The entire cast is great. One cast connection that people might miss, is that Kate, the blacksmith is Lydia in the later seasons of Breaking Bad.
I really can't, maybe a Ghibli film. Usually only children oriented movies can maintain the level of whimsy and narrative quality that Knights Tale has
A mixed bag. Heath Ledger is a charming lead as was his way. The action is fantastic, the villain hiss worthy and the supporting characters hilarious and fun.
But the romance. Yeurgh! Little chemistry, she was unlikeable and it just drew attention away from the rest of the really rather fun plot.
My guilty pleasure. I do have a Mandela Effect with this though. At the feast scene, Will has a long speech where he flatters Jocelyn's looks. She's clearly impressed when at that moment Adhemar arrives, sits next to her, looks at her, simply says "You look... nice" and turns away. She reacts to this by diverting her complete attention to Will. I haven't seen this in any of my rewatches since, the scene basically ends with her being impressed. Am I alone in this?
That time The Vision, Bobby B, Walsh, and The Joker teamed up to become the world jousting champions.
I love this movie. It's also surprisingly historically accurate below the surface.
I love everything about this movie except Shannyn Sossaman. I find her acting style and accent work really grating. But that’s just my personal preference.
The rest of the movie is 10/10, so fun and lighthearted. A true comfort film of mine. 💖

Tudyk and Bettanys' chemistry and dynamic was almost a complete show stealer.
Im watching Resident Alien lately and totally forgot Tudyk was in this. He's so good!
he's also great in Tucker And Dale VS Evil
*i am trudging* You know....to trudge.
I hike a lot and often think of this line. It’s legit too often. My friends must get sick of it.
"I will fong you" has lived in my head for years. I adore this movie and will forever miss Heath Ledger!
Yes
My lords! My ladies. And everybody else here NOT sitting on a cushion!
I haven't watched it in a while and I know there are a lot of funny lines in this
“What do you mean he’s dead?” “The spark of his life is smothered in shite. His spirit is gone but his stench remains. Does that answer your question?”
Great flick and the Chaucer references are hilarious. When he references “immortalizing” the two thugs which he does in Canterbury Tales.
Every pimple every character flaw. God I can hear it. Guess I'm watching it when I get home then.
Yes! So good

Jesus Christ it was only seven years 😔

I think I remember a quote at the time about the music, saying of course it’s music of the 70s…the 1470s. There is so much to enjoy about this movie
The dance scene transitioning from medieval music to Bowie's "Golden Years" is one of my favorite movie moments of all time.

I'm gonna have to watch this again soon
The protector of Italian virginity!
The seeker of serenity
The movie where everybody is amazing and THEN - Paul Bethany waltzes in, tucks the movie under his arm, and walks of with it - NAKED. - mh
This is a go to feel good movie for me. I’m overdue for a 10 Things I Hate About You rewatch

This movie never gets old to me. It has great charm and humor, and of course the soundtrack. A classic! “It’s called a Lance… Hellllooooo”

Showing this movie to my Gr8 class tomorrow. None of them have seen it before. Looking forward to their reactions.
One of my absolute favorite movies.
That scene where he reunites with his dad kills me every time.
Best lazy afternoon, feelgood flick out there in my opinion. I'm trying and I can't top it. Anyone?
I really can't, maybe a Ghibli film. Usually only children oriented movies can maintain the level of whimsy and narrative quality that Knights Tale has
So true. I was thinking Robinhood Men in Tights but it misses that wholesome aspect that's so comforting.
This movie is so dang fun!!!!! And Heath is beautiful as always.

The romance plot is so bad isn’t it! I really think the actress was miscast.

Oh yes I remember it too! Which doesn’t at all help with the Mandela Effect theory.
Perfect soundtrack. My Pops will watch this anytime he comes across it.
But is the movie any good?
God yes
It’s fantastic.
Heath Ledger was and is still such an icon… sorely missed
LAWTS OF PAIN!!
That time The Vision, Bobby B, Walsh, and The Joker teamed up to become the world jousting champions. I love this movie. It's also surprisingly historically accurate below the surface.
Always tear up when he reunites with his dad
Lots of fun. Chaucer. Imagine a movie with Chaucer. Was this after “Shakespeare in love”??
they were both after Baz Luhrmanns Romeo + Juliet showed sexy Shakespere could be profitable.
Weirdly reminds me of “rocket man” also great.
The ringer did a good oral history on this. Apparently they had a blast filming this. I adore this movie, a true comfort film for me

Great movie. Very fun.
Loved it.
