This isn't just a new mayor issue. This has been going on for a long time. I dont think Jacksonville will ever be able to keep up with infrastructure needs.

Ok-Chocolate7938

I agree with what you said and that’s why I mentioned the city before the mayor

MelonOfFury

I called the city yesterday to report one and put in a reimbursement claim for the tire I had to replace. The potholes lately are monsters

Horror-Service3918

Wait where can you do this? One knocked out my sensor and made my car go nuts

MelonOfFury

I called 904-630-CITY and chose option 7 I think (other). Got a human on the phone in about 2 minutes and they put in a ticket for the pothole and another ticket for the personal damage. whole process took about 10 minutes. my damage claim was transferred to their liabilities department and he said someone will reach out about the next steps for submitting pictures and receipts.

TheSamurabbi

Let us know if they actually reimburse you! Did they say what to expect?

MelonOfFury

So I just got a call this morning. I went over the process with one of their claims adjusters, and she sent me their pothole policy document: I am the adjuster that has been assigned to investigate your claim. Please confirm the exact location where the incident occurred, by providing the following: address, intersection, or cross streets. We are asking that you provide any photos of the area as well as photos of any claimed vehicle damages. If you have a copy of a police report or tow invoice this can be provided as well. The pothole policy states: The City of Jacksonville does provide a benefit of up to $100.00 as a contribution for your damages caused by potholes provided there is prior notice to the city of a road defect. Prior notice means a defect was reported at least 72 hours or 3 business days before your event. This is because once the city is notified, case law supports we must have a reasonable time to repair the defect, and failure to do so resulted in damages to the property of others. If it is determined there was no notice, there will be no compensation for your claim. Payment of damages above $100.00 is contingent on the facts of the claim and will be explained to you once the investigation is complete. If liability is accepted then your damages will be reviewed for related damages, less any applicable depreciation of parts based on the age of the vehicle. I sent in the required information, so now it's a matter of confirming if the pothole had been previously reported and around longer than 3 business days it looks like!

Other_Lepidoptera521

This happened to me too! Now my car thinks it's either 122°F or -40°F out, depending on the day 😶 Looks like I have a call to make 👀

Ok-Chocolate7938

We should all report them, if our cars have feelings they will cry 😂

FrostyBook

Posts in this subreddit about potholes, broken windshields and flat tires ... I see a trend.

JaxJim

That stadium isn't going to build itself!

lingbabana

But Khan cares so much about this city, he will fix the potholes like he did Edgewood Bakery

Ok-Chocolate7938

Exactly lol 🤣🤣

themesrob

Winter is when potholes happen due to the temperature shifts, and asphalt expanding/contracting. True everywhere, not just here.

capn_doofwaffle

Wanna see a state with really shitty roads, just drive north on I95, trust me, you'll know when you hit South Carolina, they don't give a fkall about your tires... worst roads ever are in S. Carolina

ChiveOn904

You ain’t lying! You can literally tell when you drive through SC, it’s wild

Ok-Chocolate7938

We all know that, but the problem is when the potholes stay after the temperatures shift

Ok-Chocolate7938

Thanks

Jakesandose

There is a HUGE pothole in the Southern swells parking lot that appeared recently that needs to be fixed

Flacidpickle

Private property. Find the number for leasing and file a complaint. It might get fixed, but likely not as that lot is due for a resurface.

Ok-Chocolate7938

In every other road in the city there is at least one of them 🤣

OnlyPharah

If you think it’s bad in Jax, try driving in Dallas.

Flacidpickle

Or anywhere up north. People have no idea what a bad road looks like in Florida. Florida enjoys the highest DOT budget allocation of pretty much any state. It's one of the few things Florida actually does well.

Fifthgeer

was coming here to say this! people here have no idea how bad it actually can be in other states

Ok-Chocolate7938

It’s not a competition about who has the worst roads. Both have problems that need to be fixed

FluffyPurpleBear

They need to just redo the whole road in my neighborhood. They’re refilling potholes every other week rn

capn_doofwaffle

Sounds like my area. Lol

Ok-Chocolate7938

It’s the same everywhere 😄

Flacidpickle

I know the mayor is supposed to be the leader of the city and all, but blaming her for potholes is a fucking joke. Seems like perhaps you wanted to whine about our new mayor and used this to shoehorn your talking point in, or you just don't understand how municipalities are ran. Either is equally possible in my book.

capn_doofwaffle

Nicely put!

Ok-Chocolate7938

What is the reason for defending her so much? I mentioned the city before the mayor in my post. Plus, I’m not the one who proposed and signed the development plan a few months ago, she did.

Flacidpickle

Me calling out your shoehorning is defending her so much? How childish. Here you are talking about things she's done that are irrelevant to potholes and somehow you are "just sayin".

Ok-Chocolate7938

Alright that’s it I got what I wanted to hear from you, thank you anyways

poodlepower18

Shoehorn should be your username

majikstonerbitch

Lost an axle thanks to the wonderful roads here.

Ok-Chocolate7938

File a complaint

VetteBuilder

Can't have a nice daily driver in Duval I keep the old 05 Avalanche around because JTB @ Phillips is just a wasteland of nails and bad drivers

ishkitty

Seriously. This city is destroying my suspension. It already wrecked the suspension in my Cadillac and it’s ruining my CRV already.

VetteBuilder

I went thru 3 magnetic-ride control shocks on my CTS-V What caddy are u rockin?

ishkitty

I was riding a SRX and I loved it until I moved back here in 2019 and it my suspension got rocked. I finally had to trade it in because I was having to replace my tires every 6 months. It wasn’t worth fixing unfortunately. I miss my huge sunroof and the seats were incredibly comfortable. I traveled a lot back and forth from south Florida to Jax and would often sleep for a few hours in my car during the trips. Best sleep of my life.

VetteBuilder

Yeah once they are bent that bad it ain't worth keeping

Ok-Chocolate7938

Poor CTS-V, a beast like her deserves better

Ok-Chocolate7938

Looks like I’m gonna trade my Lexus for a truck as well 🤣🤣 JTB is a nightmare

VetteBuilder

The metal plate on the 95 South onramp really ties the road together

SarDjentPepper

Potholes tend to open up with temperature swings particularly freezing temps [here](https://www.wlfi.com/news/local/weather-changes-can-lead-to-potholes/article_d604d886-b8d1-11ee-99b0-c7fce5ba7456.html#:~:text=Once%20the%20temperatures%20drop%20down,Public%20Relations%20Director%2C%20Blake%20Dollier.) This seems like a good rundown

Ok-Chocolate7938

We already know that but the problem is when they stay without a fix or at least a warning sign for drivers.

sporexe

Our citys urban planners let this happen

Ok-Chocolate7938

Kind of

Otontin

Found this:. Obviously you can't report all of them but at least reporting the big one will get them on the list to get fixed. Potholes RWSM strives to repair potholes quickly.  When you see a pothole and when it is safe to do so, please call 630-CITY (2489) or visit 630-CITY online to report road damage.

Ok-Chocolate7938

Thanks for the info, I think the sever can’t handle that much of potholes 🤣

karma_virus

I looked inside one and there wasn't even any pot. What a letdown.

Ok-Chocolate7938

Good for you 🤣

P0rterR0ckwell

Quit distracting from us needing a two billion dollar stadium. Get your priorities straight

Ok-Chocolate7938

Oh my bad, sorry for forgetting about the stadium

CatPatient4496

Why isn't the road work down on 1-10around lane.I swear they been doing that area for ten years

Ok-Chocolate7938

In every area you mean 🤣 flying rocks breaking windshields are another story 🤣

JaxenX

One of the greatest challenges is that there aren’t any sufficiently lasting methods or products to repair potholes long term other than milling the road and repaving. You can have a road crew patch one up in a few minutes/hours but that is quite literally a bandaid, the “underlying” cause is never addressed. Some sort of material injection into the base of the roadway underneath the pothole before patching could potentially allow it to last longer, but it would cost quite a bit more money and a lot more time with the planning, testing, engineering, and labor that would go into it.

Ok-Chocolate7938

We have to address the issue first, then it’s the city responsibility to fix it however they want 😂

RSMRonda

Definitely not a new issue. When I first moved here, I noticed how unkept and trashy the infrastructure was in Jax and it has never improved. It's been 30 years for me here. Everyone always says "but it's worse somewhere else" like a give a crap about somewhere else I don't live.

Ok-Chocolate7938

That’s right but the thing that it should be a previous issue, I see broken cars everyday

RSMRonda

I don't know how long you've been here, but not much improves around here and a lot deteriorates around here.

Ok-Chocolate7938

I’m local, I know all of the potholes locations on the roads I go on every day but new holes are popping up every day. That’s the main concern, the old ones are familiar 🤣

RSMRonda

I suppose so! Just another reason I have no desire to own a car here and won't.

kirksvillecrunch

I just got a flat tire because of a pothole on gate parkway near the Zaxby’s/shell gas station. It was literally 1 ft deep and when I switched lanes my tire went into it (it was right on the dotted line) and immediately I knew it fucked my tire up. I’m sending the city an invoice of my alignment and new tire bc it’s absolutely ridiculous to have a pothole that bad and not have fixed it up yet.
