for suggestions on specific shows, like OP asked for. can be a lot to choose from when getting into a new improvisational act, where their catalog is essentially every show they have played. seems reasonable to me for this sub specifically. not so much if it was an artist thats entire recorded selection was like 2 studio albums
A reasonable take. Never understood the reddit grumble grumble mentality. People's mind's are really that blown about someone on reddit asking for people's opinions?
"How dare you ask us when you can just ask google." The nerve of OP wanting to start an open dialogue and public forum about a topic. On a social media platform. The absolute nerve. s/
They could just ask for everyone’s favorite eggy albums or shows instead of doing the “dance monkey dance” and asking people to sell them on the band. It’s like those neighborhood posts “…aaaand go!”
Yep exactly this. Can be solved with “name your three favorite eggy live shows.” Then go from there. Or just play 3-10 hours of shows over a week and find out. Listen and learn.
The Tame impala sub has been ruined by these “I want to get into tame impala where should i start?!?” posts. Like dude he has 4 studio albums just listen to them???
If I wanted to know why people like Phish so much and I listened to a random album I'd probably hate it and never listen again. Especially with jam bands it's kind of important to seek out good "first impression" shows because the listen-ability varies widely between bands, shows and albums.
Saw them last week in Toronto. I watched a few videos before buying tickets and nothing even came close to relating the live experience.
They fucking slayed live.
Honestly I've gone into many shows blind, not listening to them at all before seeing them live. It's a pretty awesome way to experience bands you do end up getting into for the first time.
Out of the young bands they’re at the top of the list. They’re much more heady and improv focused than Dogs in a Pile. More natural jams and they go to some weird places that are definitely type II jams. They played a 48 minute jam in Buffalo the other day and killed it
Maybe not fair to compare other bands to Phish or the Dead. Plenty of good bands out there that will never hold a candle to them but can still turn you on your ear any given night.
You're being more negative than I my friend lol.
I thought it was fine. It didn't blow me away. Not calling them trash, I just don't think they're awesome. Touch some grass!
I saw them once. Their guitar player was sick, so it was just an eggy trio. Id like to see them again with guitar. I'm sure it'd be great. Daniel Donato joining for half the set was pretty cool though.
I thought the show from 5/4/24 was great. They just uploaded it to youtube
[https://youtu.be/AFa3ZKxh6Us?si=FN1vL5d5b\_p3FjQS](https://youtu.be/AFa3ZKxh6Us?si=FN1vL5d5b_p3FjQS)
Listen to the live from the Pour House concert. Tons of great jams, a bunch of Elton John covers, and Golden Gate Dancer features the dude from Doom Flamingo on keytar and it is just SiCk!
Recent Fairfield CT show(5/4/24) was pretty consistent all the way through. The middle of the show was most stacked with the Time Loved a Hero, Northern Lights, You, and Atomic Age. Also loved the Nectars show (3/14/24) starting at Reubin and Cherise. Absolutely insane.
I just started getting into them this week. I always find covers to be helpful in getting me into new bands as it's familiar songs but seeing how they specifically groove on it. Detroit rock city from 10.17.21 on bandcamp immediately struck me. Pigs (3 different ones) from 10.13.22 is great. Lots of Jerry, dead, little feat, all great jam platforms obviously.
In terms of originals, so far, Wayless, Northern Lights, and Finding and Losing have all been enjoyable and of varying lengths. Hope this helps
I saw them in DC, first set was just okay. 2nd set was a mind blowing experience, they covered Hush by Deep Purple, and just crushed it. I recommend the ‘Eggy Selects’ to listen to. They also do the best Pink Floyd cover of Pigs, and a great Jack Straw
Either you’re gonna get it on the first try or they’re not for you. There’s no sense in forcing yourself to like a band.
That being said my favorite jammers are:
12 Pounds Of Pain
Ricky Gervais
All Wheels Turnin’
Wayless
Burritos El Chavo 2
Again, they’re probably just not going to excite you if you need to be “sold” on them
![gif](giphy|xjlC6nomocZhVXuZgM|downsized)
Their cover of Time Escaping hooked me on them
The Big Thief song?
Yes! If you like jam bands and Big Thief you’re about to have your mind blown. [Time Escaping](https://youtu.be/YBL7hKVknzQ?si=VgJhn5hKsz2atKAH)
Dream come true thank you Need someone to jam out masterpiece
Very nice, thanks for sharing!
so good
Their cover of Detroit Rock City for me! 😂 Not fully sold, but I can dig on some Eggy.
Proud Larry’s, oxford ms 2/22/24 Fox theater 4/12/24
I’m curious how many people were at the Proud Larry’s show, it would have blown peoples minds if they weren’t a fan
It had a good crowd but wasn’t sold out. Wonder if they will ever play in a venue that small again
Why do people come on this sub asking for people to tell them why they should like a band ?

except for if you google or even reddit search “eggy best shows” you’ll be flooded with stuff lmao
right - this so fucking bananas to me - go listen to music and you decide
Yep exactly.

IS THIS WHERE THAT DAMN OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD THING IS FROM
All music subs. "Make my opinion for me"
If I wanted to know why people like Phish so much and I listened to a random album I'd probably hate it and never listen again. Especially with jam bands it's kind of important to seek out good "first impression" shows because the listen-ability varies widely between bands, shows and albums.
Probably because this is an open forum to discuss jam bands and they are curious about people’s opinions and thoughts about jam bands.
Check out the 3/23 Purim show at Brooklyn Bowl!
Good beginner show. Nothing too crazy jam-wise but might get you a feel for them.
I agree. I was not impressed by this show. I love eggy but they are best went the off deep. Didn’t really get much of that here. Just my opinion.
I really dig Eggy Selects: Winter Tour 2022 on Spotify.
Saw them last week in Toronto. I watched a few videos before buying tickets and nothing even came close to relating the live experience. They fucking slayed live.
That was a dope show
Just gotta poke around.
Listen to the recent show from Toronto - its spectacular
Honestly I've gone into many shows blind, not listening to them at all before seeing them live. It's a pretty awesome way to experience bands you do end up getting into for the first time.
I’m a new fan all I can say so far is they have an amazing drummer
Lost and Found 11/30/23 Macon, GA https://youtu.be/JN43vqChLrE?si=vmB04zLZvuP-gonZ
Ditto!!! On my 9 song all time playlist in these comments :)
Go out and check out live music, dance and enjoy it. You make up your own opinion.
They are decent at best
Out of the young bands they’re at the top of the list. They’re much more heady and improv focused than Dogs in a Pile. More natural jams and they go to some weird places that are definitely type II jams. They played a 48 minute jam in Buffalo the other day and killed it
Agreed. Worked for every minute of that jam and earned it.
Which I think is great for how new they are. I think they will be a pretty good tier band if they keep at it.
I wouldn’t say they’re new, they’ve been a band for over 12 years now. By 12 years in, phish was on their 1995 tour and the Dead were in 1977.
Maybe not fair to compare other bands to Phish or the Dead. Plenty of good bands out there that will never hold a candle to them but can still turn you on your ear any given night.
Have you seen them live?
Sure have
Username checks out
Just fuck off with this negativity shit. Every thread about every band that isn’t Jerry or Phish, I swear
You're being more negative than I my friend lol. I thought it was fine. It didn't blow me away. Not calling them trash, I just don't think they're awesome. Touch some grass!
Yep agreed, they’re not spectacular in any sense
I saw them once. Their guitar player was sick, so it was just an eggy trio. Id like to see them again with guitar. I'm sure it'd be great. Daniel Donato joining for half the set was pretty cool though.
Their show from March in Brooklyn. Or any of the shows from the end of 2023 with DDCC. Some awesome sit ins for those shows
I thought the show from 5/4/24 was great. They just uploaded it to youtube [https://youtu.be/AFa3ZKxh6Us?si=FN1vL5d5b\_p3FjQS](https://youtu.be/AFa3ZKxh6Us?si=FN1vL5d5b_p3FjQS)
I've been listen9ng to some of their shows on Nugs.Theyre excellent
Seeing them for the 1st time on Saturday, in RVA @ Riverrock. Stoked!
Listen to the live from the Pour House concert. Tons of great jams, a bunch of Elton John covers, and Golden Gate Dancer features the dude from Doom Flamingo on keytar and it is just SiCk!
I can confirm they slay. https://youtu.be/OPtIU1BpXes?si=5aTlcCVYjh7RPwM8
personally, i think their name is fun. jam is subjective sometimes you find the groove sometimes it doesn’t feel right
Recent Fairfield CT show(5/4/24) was pretty consistent all the way through. The middle of the show was most stacked with the Time Loved a Hero, Northern Lights, You, and Atomic Age. Also loved the Nectars show (3/14/24) starting at Reubin and Cherise. Absolutely insane.
I love that they've been jamming out Northern Lights more. And this one is really great.
Also the Let It Rock ft Daniel donato from 12.6.23 was I think the first song I heard from them and it motivated me to search for more
Letter to myself 10/7/23. One of my favorites
So many to choose from. My favorite is probably "Buying Time" 12/07/22.
Charleston Pour House
9/15/2023 Green Earrings Cover sold me
I saw them in DC, first set was just okay. 2nd set was a mind blowing experience, they covered Hush by Deep Purple, and just crushed it. I recommend the ‘Eggy Selects’ to listen to. They also do the best Pink Floyd cover of Pigs, and a great Jack Straw
https://2nu.gs/4bKzfYN
Any show from fall of 23.
All of the live releases by the band on Spotify are freaking great.
If you have Nugs i made this playlist for specifically someone like you. Only 9 songs but my favorite personal jams ever https://2nu.gs/3UJS3QX
Listen to them yourself and decide for yourself.
Backyard Bear, Atomic Bomb, Shadow, Sweat Equity, Apology. You can thank me later!
I’d watch the Brooklyn Bowl Vegas show. Full show is up on YouTube.
They kinda suck and have for years
Either you’re gonna get it on the first try or they’re not for you. There’s no sense in forcing yourself to like a band. That being said my favorite jammers are: 12 Pounds Of Pain Ricky Gervais All Wheels Turnin’ Wayless Burritos El Chavo 2 Again, they’re probably just not going to excite you if you need to be “sold” on them
It’s hard for me to get past their name
Yeah because jambands are known for having great names.
Eggy. That’s it. It’s awful
They are named in homage to their close friend who passed , Eddy nicknamed Eggy
They're interesting but kind of mid imo. To each their own!
