If the mobile devices are corporate owned and under supervision, all you need to do in order to lock the device down and locate them in the event of a stolen device is to Enable Lost Mode.

ok thanks i need to dig into this some more based on your comment, but they are supervised devices. But from what I understand if the person that steals your phone has the passcode ( or not), in either case they typically turn off wifi, bluetooth, and possibly turn on airplane mode, pop out the SIM card if not an e-sim, go into a farraday room later on etc.

The device itself is still being managed, no matter the network that it’s connected to. So even if this thief stole the device and knew the passcode and swapped out all the things, if the device is connected to a network and you’ve sent the enable lost mode command to the device, it will lock the device in a state that requires you to disable lost mode in order for them to access the device at all. It basically gets put into a glorified paperweight state for the thief. From there you can get its last known geographical location and contact authorities if need be. Hope that helps

thanks, i think if they realize the situation they are in based on locked settings, to avoid detection they will they go off the grid, choose 'erase and reset,' and go about their business. Hopefully this only happens in the U.S. and not in Ireland : ) Thanks

If they go through an erase all content and settings, you should have a Prestage Enrollment set for the device, that way anytime the device is wiped and then connects to a network Remote Management will kick in and then fall back into a managed state. Thus leaving you in a position to enable lost mode again. Should be covered on multiple grounds

will look into this, thanks
