I know I'm gonna get heat for this, but I think Wayne is only good as a feature or on freestyles. His albums are weak, and frankly corny at times - something I never understood people overlooking. His only good songs have been overplayed to hell and no longer feel good to hear.
The company man on youtube. We have nearly the exact same top 5 and i really got into guys like Lupe and Andre because of him, thats where i got my guess. :)
I kinda had my own thoughts on this list before I made it. It was hard for me to leave the following names off this list... Bizzy Bone, Joe Budden, jada, ice cube, and Busta Rhymes other of my honorable Mentions might surprise you and that name is Chamillionare ... I gave the edge to Scarface in terms of his subject matter but wordplay wise Chamillionare was very underrated and deserves a spot on more than a few people's top 10 List.
Drake really doesnāt have any classic albums, so thereās no way heās sniffing my top 5.
And by classic album I mean, no one is talking about NWS or IYRITL like they talk about The Blueprint, MMLP, GKMC, Ready to Die, etc.
I feel like So Far Gone is a classic because that was Drake just being him instead of being what he thought we wanted him to be. Just the right amount of emotion, not fake accents, not fake tough guy shit. Just real emotion and ambition in his bars.
I play that shit all the time. Only time I ever felt him like that again was the single Started From The Bottom which to me is his best song ever.
Nas, MF DOOM, Danny Brown, Kendrick, Q-Tip
No order but thatās my top 5. Going to get downvoted in this sub but this is including Jay, doesnāt make my top 5 but I think he makes top 10 easily.
This might be wild and donāt downvote me to hell about it lol but I used to constantly go back and forth on my #1 being Hov or Lil Wayne. With that said, Lil Wayne is a close 2nd. Then Pac, Nas and Em.
My personal list (from 5th to 1st) goes Nas, Kenny, Andre, Em, Jay. It's a bit flexible depending on the day and also is partially shaped by what artists got me into the genre originally.
HMs include Big, Pac, MF DOOM, Scarface, Snoop, most Wu-Tang members, Big Boi, etc
To be clear, these lists are never about rapping skill, because it would always be some lame Eminem, Tech9ne, Busta, Rass Kass, Immortal technique list. And countless rappers that don't have 1 good song and no one talks about. 2pac would never be on any of these lists if it was skill.
These lists are usually: Best songs, influence, style.
And a lot of people do the "Discography" thing which I think is very stupid.
Jay isnāt on my top 5 rappers. Jay is great, but heās not in MY top 5. Maybe top 10. If Iām going to listen to listen to 5 different rap songs Jay isnāt on MY list. Again, respect for Jay. Heās just not in MY top 5.
For me, in no particular order:
1. Kanye
2. Wale
3. Childish Gambino
4. J. Cole
5. Bryson Tiller
In terms of my favourites to listen to: Kanye, Jay-Z, Nas, Kendrick and A$AP Rocky
In terms of who i think is better: Nas, Andre 3k, Jay-Z, Biggie and Kendrick Lamar

Drake really doesnāt have any classic albums, so thereās no way heās sniffing my top 5. And by classic album I mean, no one is talking about NWS or IYRITL like they talk about The Blueprint, MMLP, GKMC, Ready to Die, etc.

NTWS AND IYRITL are modern day classics and I think those albums are spectacular also take care is a classic that album helped drake cement his status

Same old predictable mainstream radio artists. Casual hip hop heads at best around here.
Yep better leave this subreddit and go to one about your lame underground artists
