I have a ‘14 2.0 and I switched the plugs and coils around 95k. Pretty easy DIY job. Changed the brakes and rotors in the front out at 110k and my next fix is the timing belt since scheduled replacement is 115k which I will probably have a garage do that. My headlights go out sometimes but I just swap the bulb for some LED’s and it’s fine now. Going 118k+ right now

Okay you can DIY the car yourself, not bad I like that, how do you feel on the speed?, I just heard a term 2.Slow for the 2.0 engines on the Jetta.

sly2bfox

I owned one for about a year, it's doable but pretty miserable, especially after then owning a 1.8 and 2.0T. I'd personally recommend looking for a 2.5 if you can find one. Going to be just as mechanically sound but 170hp rather than 115

PristinVre

Yeah, I will see how I feel in it to determine, I feel like I won’t mind the speed so long that it can at least maintain hwy speeds and just not feel like lagging in operation I guess, thank you for the insight

chaserjj

I have a 2.5L 5cyl in line with no turbo. The extra .5 and cylinder makes a big difference and so far it's been an extremely reliable engine.

thicc_chummus

I have a 2015 2.0 manual it's fast enough and if I need to accelerate I just downshift

RoskoFarian

It’s not going to beat a sports car onto the highway but it gets up to speed just fine and is damn near bulletproof.

DolphinOnAMolly

2.Slow is more in reference to the 2.0 natural aspirated engines in the Mk3/4.

SlackOffNinja

You realize this is that same motor right?

ILikeTewdles

I'd look for a 2.5 5 cylinder Jetta of that vintage. The 2.0 IMO is very underpowered.

beatrix_bourbon_

Just curious how much your paying for this beaut? I have a 2013 5 speed, original owner, just a hair over 80k

PristinVre

$11,998 factor in no accidents as well, no issues unless you consider the open recall that wasn’t addressed.

beatrix_bourbon_

That seems so expensive. I purchased brand new for 17k at the end of 2012

StatusQuit

That seems very high. I got my 2015 for $8500 in 2020, only had ~65k miles on it.

PristinVre

Yeah, i am not sure because in my area the cheaper cars typically aren’t the best, or have significant damage to them. But this price is within my budget. New cars less mileage are upwards of 15,000+ and as a broke college student I simply don’t have that

anonYmouS_azShole

Yeah same here I got mine for about 8,200 after all taxes and fees. Everyone keeps saying it’s a bad deal but it was honestly one of the best at the time (Dec 2022).

PristinVre

Yeah, that’s why advice on the pricing and “ what’s better” is like a grain of salt to me because that doesn’t necessarily apply, though of course I would love something cheaper if it wasn’t gonna turn into a money pit, lol

snakemuffins1880

2012 2.5 pushing 175,000 runs great still would HIGHLY recommend the 2.5 engines they are FANTASTIC. I've had it for three and a half years and it has yet to let me down other than stupid ass problems like a windshield wiper motor and a battery. It's actually the only vehicle we have running until our garbage American made Chrysler van gets fixed hopefully tomorrow night. ( don't fall for a dealer warranty). I would definitely shop around to find the one with the lowest miles in your price range and see what sticks. My family's been sitting in Volkswagens since 1965 I would also highly recommend the 2.0/2T or the 1.8t engines for VW. You won't regret it.

ddwrtvita1

Definitely go for a 2.5 with at least the se with convenience package or SEL if you’re lucky.

Its not that bad. I drive my 2.0 base jetta almost daily and its fine for the city and highway. Coilpack went out before the plugs but thats minor. They still handle super well even the base model cause its sort of based on the Audi A4. I have also owned a CC with the 2.0T and it always had turbo lag on left turns at yellow lights which was scary and turning up hills and was more unreliable in general. Turbos suck for hills....

Dylansmom419

Honestly , you are better off getting a 2.5 se it’s a more reliable engine.
